  1. I first say my neighbor's SBC 75 280Z when I was about 13-14 and always wanted to buy it from him. I had no clue what was powering it or anything. I just knew it sounded really cool. He sold a silver 67 stingray to buy his Z. he would drive it on the weekends and to deliver his products to his customers. Then it was every other weekend...and then once a month...and then it sat for a year and he just started it the other week and took it to Road Atlanta (I think) to sell it.
  2. you could jst remove the carb and tank and make a custom intake so that your carb would be in the right orientation.
  3. yeah... just a little expensive...that is like 3/4 of what I bought my car for...and they are only good to 190hp. Maybe a pair of 50mm throttle bodies...
  4. I have only seen a couple pics of your 260 but that was really interesting..
  5. yeah I droped my front coilovers all the way down and then jacked the rear of the car up ful height on SUV jackstands...made it pretty easy since I don't have a balancer for my lift.
  6. so since I am going to be going with megasquirt and doing everything custom I was thinking... Take my current SU intake manifolds and put TBI on both of them. This would be combined with a turbo... I did a quick search but nothing came up. It would be different and get the "what the heck is that" look. Just something that came from sitting around too much.
  7. yeah yeah...my dad is going to hook me up with some motor stuff wile I am gone so that I why I am still looking. I guess I'll do something different. Maybe I'll get a turbo exhaust manifold and a holset and rig up dual TBI on my SU intakes...that would be cool. Hey phil do you still have that scatched up turbo block or did you dump it?
  8. hey gasoline, I bought my Z when I was 15...the last day I was 15. lol back on topic... How old were you Austin when you got your early 260?
  9. upload it to some hosting site like dropshots or some other free hosting site...then you can link it.
  10. That is a really small photo. Can you upload a bigger one? Looks like a hole in the tip of the bucket. If that is so get a small piece of metal formed to fit the inside and have a muffler shop weld it in for like $10 and then bondo over it or whatever.
  11. yeah I have an 11/73 260. I only had fuses in the fusebox and then the two fusable links in teh engine bay. What you may have is something that was done in some shop. There is a very thick white wire with a red stripe that is main power. You should be able to disect a little of the harness and figure out which one is going to the fusable link that goes back inside to the fuse box. I completely opened my harness up to seperate everything so that I would be able to make a new harness and eleminate everything unecessary (a lot!) I may convert to the 1 wire setup just to clean things up a bit. hope this helps.
  12. Well since the head is the major limiting factor on any L series engine I would say no. Maybe 300-325 but you really need some cylinder head work to open up the flow. The stock intake and exhaust limit you to 400hp so that is really asking a lot for 375 with a mostly "stock" head. my 2 cents...
  13. that stack of trannies was what amazed me...There was a Z32 tranny or two sitting in that stack...thinking of how well that would do behind some huge motor.
  14. Well I have the weirdo 74' and earlier 3" gas cap..280z gas caps are about $3 at any parts store. You can buy a new one like mine for $50 from courtesy parts.
  15. yeah I know. The problem is that ZXTs are a little rare around here. There were 3 ZXTs there and this was the only one with the motor still in it. There were about 120 Z cars and mostly Z31s. About 30 S30s but most of them totaled and missing 80 percent of the parts. All I need now is the stuff to convert my L26 to turbo just for setting up megasquirt and to get me around. I'll build a better block later on when I have the money. he wants 400 for the turbo stuff so I think I'll keep looking. Maybe if it was all rebuilt and nice but not like that. I spent $20 a long time ago on an old used gas cap there and I had to search like 45 minutes to find one that was right.
  16. Well here are a bunch of photos. The car passed emissions last in 2000... It is pretty much complete except for injectors and the dizzy and spark plug wires. T-tops that are near perfect. Perfect for grafting onto an S30.. the missing dizzy the turbo: the body: this thing was like top of the line...look at the little sprayers for the headlights. need a tranny? seeing this was a little traumatic... this too.. well they said they want $600 for the motor and then another $400 for the turbo stuff and then $500 for the tranny... I can get an exhaust manifold for like $50 and then a holset for like $350-$400...I am not paying $400 for a stock turbo and manifold...what do y'all think its worth? there were soo many Z31s there it is not even funny. At least 15 z31 turbos
  17. Bleh... The day I see an upgrade on that bent twisted Porsche thing I will yell at my dad for not saving up some $$$$ to fix the frame which is not that great at all. Bigger turbo (if you could fit it in there) would ultimately snap the car in half...That thing already does 12-13 PSI and he is happy with it.
  18. Morodin: I had already gone over JohnC above that and forgot he was an Admin... DavyZ: I hope I don't get droped off..It took me a year to get these 1,223 posts... Dr. Hunt: Thanks. I'll do that. Austin: we'll see how often I ca get off campus since I won't have a car. I'll have my mountain bike though.. I will be going to Pensavola Christian College for M.E. I have chemistry and calculus this first semester plus some easier courses. Oh if anyone has an extra F54 block let me know..or any turbo stuff they would like to donate to the cause let me know... I am just a little poor now... Thanks Y'all
  19. I may have some version of my car down there in the spring semester...Going to try and rebuild my L26 motor in christmas break just to get the car driving. I ay be able to get to Panera bread every once in a while to get WiFi access and hop on here. Yes I will be in Pensacola. Yes I do have a laptop with wireless...the colege only allows a few (150) web sites (for research) so only when I go off campus will I be on here. Even that is a hastle...
  20. haha...just added you like seconds ago.. anyway thanks!
  21. I know. I just wanted to come up with something different. I was looking for a classic look that would have a more "modern"(albiet 70s) underneath...
  22. Well it is true that I have to go to college in a week. I will not be able to get on very much at all until I get back in December. I have learned so much from so many of you. Veritech: your funny and different ideas and sketches...props. 240hoke: well you inspired me at ZdayZ to do a turbo motor...and to help me graduate from the school of flat black and rustoleum and that a teen can make a car look good. JohnC: your un-ending knowledge about suspension has helped out many times in last minute checks before I bought any suspension stuff. 280tuner: you are in the EXACT same position that I am in except you already have an awesome motor Big-Phil: first to do your whole car in Rustoleum and make it look decent...and your hilarious videos Zowner: keeping such a detailed worklog...I would never have been able to do what you did without having driven my Z more than twice... Admin staff minus JohnC: y'all are great, you actually walk your talk and it shows. Mull: Wow...nobody has ever made progress that fast with their Z..such an inspiration Olie05: Your opinions are often strong but correct... Your rustoleum looks great! Z-ya: Great looking car and you know a lot about DIS that I have learned a lot from. BRAAP: What can I say? You do the best cylinder head work that I have seen and you are happy to share your knowlege with us other neophyte L6 guys... PrOx..:great setup. I hope to do a motor swap like that but not in the street... Everyone that has read my, all what is it now, 14 pages of worklog, I salute you for enduring through it all There are many more that have been influential in my knowledge and appreciation of Z cars. More to come...
  23. Well here is the newness... Here is a rough initial sketch that I did when I got the idea... and the second sketch. what do you think? I'll do a better one tonight.
