  1. Looks like I'll be going out to Texas Motorplex on Friday Augaust 15th if they are doing a test-n-tune or something like that. I'd love to have some more of the group that came last time and anyone else come down and run. I plan on being there by 8:00 or so. Hope to see ya there.
  2. I've got an Extra P-90 if we needed to do some testing on. My car is not the fastest or the slowest so it may be a good one for testing.
  3. Take a look at JC Whitney for the Manderal bent sections. It's the same stuff and the rice is better. No reason to pay more for the same thing when you don't have to.
  4. Sorry to hear about the delays I know how you feel. The one Z mechanic that used to be near enough to me to actually use would always take atleast double or possibly triple the amount of time he said it would take. That and a lack of money to pay someone else for labor is what got me really into doing things myself. Turned out I wasn't bad at it and I could afford many more parts if I didn't have to pay labor charges. I'm sure you would do the same if you had a place to do it. Anyway, keep the faith and get your right foot ready be fully extended.
  5. I totally agree with DAW said. It will take some good tuning and proper engine management to have high boost and a compression ratio like what you will end up with. Not saying it can't be done because it has been many times. I wouldn't run more than 7 or 8 psi without an intercooler with the stock turbo. If you upgrade to a larger turbo that will heat the air less then you might could run more.
  6. I'll let ya know as soon as mine rust out. I think it might be awhile though. I'm sure I'll have another turbo or changed it for some other reason before I run into any corrosion proublems.
  7. Heres a couple of pics of my setup. All I did was to drill out the center hole, thread it then put a bolt in the hole. I then welded it up and ground off any excess. Then I just redrilled the center hole. Simple but effective
  8. Ivan you might look into your ECU tuning a little more. Mine pulls hard to 6300 with all the stock top end compnets inplace. Before I changed the computer it only pulled to 5800. The only change I made was the computer and all of the sudden the car wanted to turn much higher before dieing out. I still think a slightly larger or revised cam to let the engine breath in the upper RPM's would be fun and useful at this point.
  9. I agree with the go easy on it for awhile there is no need to get it up to maximum speed tonight. The exhaust wil be load but, no louder than some of the Choppers I've seen lately. Basically just go easy on the car until you learn it and are very familiar with the new style of power. After that up the boost and get the intercooler on.
  10. My first turbo Z was with a F54 block w/ flat tops and a P79. No proublem with it till I wrecked the car.
  11. The only time I found a rev limiter was in 5th gear at exactly 5500 rpms. No more go after that. That was with the factory computer I'm not sure if the one I have now does or not.
  12. That was funny. Why didn't he just let off?
  13. Needless to say you've got some power but, I'm no slouch either. My ZX has 185,000 on it now and I'm no friend to it at the track or other races that come up. What clutch and tires are you runing?
  14. Looks nice and 20lbs off the front thats awesome . Keep us updated
  15. I think he may have been talking about a heat shield.
  16. How did you break one I've driven the dog out of mine and it's not the perfect shifting trans anymore but, it's not broke? Just curious. I'm I lucky?
  17. I used to use one on my car. They are one of the better factory issue intercoolers but, they not as good as a aftermarket one. I picked up 4 mph when I changed from the GN to a HKS model. The intercooler pipes were changed at the same time and I think some of the added power come from the better pipe setup as well as a better flowing intercooler. One thing that I would do if I were to use one again is to moddify the inlet side of the intercooler. If you look around on the Buick boards you'll find a Kenny Detw....... intercooler neck kit. Basically you cut the first couple of inches off the neck of the intercooler and weld on a new one. It is supposed to remove the most restrictive portion of the unit. there are some GN guys with very fast cars still using the factory intercooler so it couldn't be all that bad.
  18. Sorry but, I don't have a real answer with Dyno quotes and all. I will tell you that I could tell a huge differnce in how long it took to spool the turbo and the pull of the car was much better. I use the same road each time to test the car so I know how the car should feel when I take it out to test parts. Very much worth the time, effort and money involved. I would recommend this for anyone and even more for someone with a modded car.
  19. I second that. I had a guy tell me a reputable shop once that it wasn't needed. Boy was he wrong. Needless to say I don't buy from them anymore.
  20. Brad's right about the junk yard but, good luck in finding one. I searched for years but, eventually bought one from a guy on Zcar.com. I see them listed on there about once a month or so. I paid 400.00 for mine and that seems to be the normal price.
  21. How did you verify that? I'm not doughting you. Just curious?
  22. Thats sweet. We took my wifes new Jeep off road today. I think she's hooked!
  23. My combo. is just stuff I've copied and taken advise from members of Hybrid Z on and come together nicely. Basic rebuilt motor no machine work just some bearings and timing set. HKS intercooler kit made for the ZX but, I redid the pipes they were very weird as they came from HKS. Purchased used. Profec B 2 1/2 into 3" manderal bent DP and exhaust system. I made Ported exhaust manifold Weber 60mm T-Body Lightened stock flywheel. Clutch by Dial-a-clutch.com JWT 85 computer and MAF Purchased used Bosch adjutsable FPR 40 psi at idle Rebuilt TO4b-T3 turbo clipped turbine wheel. MAF to turbo pipe 3" manderal bent. I made 87 LSD with 3.7 gear ratio One thing that helped me was the LSD I really didn't pick up that much in the 60' but, it seemed to help once I got the car moving and shifting into second and third gear. It's alot of fun around corners though. My tires are some cheap 17" tires that I put on when I put the rims on. I used the cheapies just to get the car rolling again and was going to upgrade asap. Well as always other things came up and I never got around to getting new tires. I think if I had some Drag Radials I would definatley improve the 60' and the rest of the run. I've also got a set of Energy Supension rear control arm bushings that I need to install. I'm getting some wheel hop in first if I don't make the tires spin pretty good off the line. I'm hoping by installing the bushings it will help to control the rear end better and not let it move around so much.
