Rob Fuller....Yes Z Car Garage FTW!!! My buddy used to work there, sort of. Worked for the owner anyway. Rob Fuller used to be the shop manager over at Scott Performance. That is where my buddy worked. Said the quallity was top notch....perfect every time. Nothing has changed from what I have heard. http://www.turbomagazine.com/features/0803_turp_1970_datsun_240z/index.html

Oh, and I have a feeling that thee "loud blow off valve" is simply turbo surge. This is very bad for a stock turbo. Expext to be replacong it soon at those boost levels also
-
First thing is go buy a quality wideband. If you dont know what it is google it. Then stay away from boost until it is installed on your car and you can then verify what is going on inside that time-bomb of yours. The factory ECU will not do more than factory boost level with any precision. Start searching the ecu section of the forum for a good staand alone ecu. There are a few other methods you can do. One is the z31 turbo harness and ecu swap. It is a mass air system and will tollerate slightly higher than stock boost far better than the L28et's computer. Also serch Nisstune. That will apply to the z31 ecu. Once you have established you have the Proper AFRs, that your timming is to factory spec AND you are not detonating. Then start getting back into the boost and keep a close eye on the wideband. You will know what to look for on the gauge because you will gave dome some of that "Tunning" resurch I spoke of earlier. This is not something to just jump into with out the knowledge of each system that controls the engine and what effect each has. I would alsso try your best to figure out why the boost is so far above the factory setting, and then fix it or remove it. At least until you have completed all of the above. Some will tell you you can ajust the AMF of yoour car to compensate for more boost or turn up the fuel pressure. I truely would steer clear of the factor L28 electronics if you are wanting to make any kind of power reliably. This is not to say some one is going to post how they are running 15psi on stock computer and no other mods and nothing has broke in the 5 years it has been like this. Believe me, this is not the norm and should not be taken as the gospel! Everything above is only an attempt to save you time, money and lots of headaches in the long run. Please use the search feacher of the forum as it will answer most if not all questions you may have.

Hey man, I will hook you up with a L-28 super cheap if you are intrested. Dont waste your time to just blow up the L24. Shoot, I may just trade you motors if you want.....maybe
-
Well shoot, hope to see you out there. Maybe we could cruise down together? I live on the north side, you? I dont know if you saw my "rant" I posted up in the non tech forum but I am heading to the dyno over @ turbochargers wednessday @ 11am. then I am hoping for a good night at the track on friday. What are you 1/4 mile times anyway?

Disclaimer* probably long and borring to others, I just needed to vent..... Whew, so, I posted up the link lastweek of my trip down thee quarter mile with our local high horsepower club (houston performance driving) and I have been cleaning up my mess ever since. On the way back from the track I was having some fun with a buddy of mine and a few other cars that were making their way home also. The car was runnning great and pulling strong. Well, it was until I made my final freeway pull against my buddy in his z32tt. I managed to blow out mmy 5th gear. I was just glad that it was something simple and I could swap it out easily. The next weekend (this past one) on friday night I begain thee tranny swap. All was fine and went pretty smoothly other than the fact that once I got the car on thee ground I realized I grabbed the wrong trannny from storage. I just installed a 4-spd....awsome. Thats fine I figured. I was planning on hitting the dyno this week and the track again this up comming weekend. So I figured I will leave it be. Will be a little less wear and tear on my few good 5spdss i have left and less chance of breaking one. So now thee car is running as of this last friday night and I am wanting geet on thee dyno monday so I decide to start tunning for 20psi. Yeah.....should have left it be. I got to 18psi before thee headgasket let go. #6 blew right out the side. OK, here we go. No problem headgasket, I am thinking 2hours 2.5tops. I had the head off and ready to take to thee machine shop for a check up in 40 min. Everything at this point is great. Take it to thee machine shop and to mine and his suprise he says the head is straight as can be. Happily not having to remove any material I load up and haed back home. Now see, here is were everything starts getting even worse. Head studs out of the block I clean thee threads in thee block and on the studs. Prep the block and head surfaces and whip out the new head gasket. Head goes back onn thee block, studs droped in and ready to torque them down. At least I thought so, they were all fine till the last one gave it up. Yes, I broke an ARP heaad stud off below the deck. AWSOME, friggn great! At this point I am ready to just yank the whole dumb motor and swap it out for one of my standby motors. I give up till this morning. I make it back out there by 10am and start trying to figure how I am going to pull all of this off. I am getting tired of typing and reading so I am going to sum up the rest. I was able to drill and use an easy out, all though I realy dont think they are, to remove the remaining stud from the block. An hour or so later she is running good and I drove her to work tonight. Yep, should be fun tonight, past 4 days I have only gotten about 3 hours of sleep each night. And now I have about 10hrs of a 12 hour shift still in front of me with a dyno run schedueled (spelling?) at 11am tomorrow. end rant

Confused on what IC piping i should be using
jc052685 replied to icapture's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
do not ever use your intake manifold as a referance point for a wastegate. If you do this will cause the turbo to "overboost". This will happen under patial throttle and cruising only. The reason is lets say you are just under 5psi on the boost gauge while merging onto the freeway. Well if you were to measure the boost pressure before the throttle body then it would be rediculous. Not only is this badd for the turbo but will heat soak your intercooler, poor fuel milage, not to mention the harm and unnecessary wear in other components. This is due to the wastegate not getting the proper boost referance. Wastgate needs to get its referance from anywhere before the TB. end. -
Thank you for helping me not look like an idiot to others:mrgreen: Turbo Efficiency - if turbo A can produce 12psi of manifold pressure with 16psi exhaust pressure and turbo B can produce 12psi of manifild pressure on 10psi of exhaust pressure than tubo B will make more HP with thee same amount of manifild pressure. Thus one turbo can infact make more HP on the same manifold pressure.

I would say go with the 3071. Good chance you will want more later anyway. The 2871 is rated from 300 to 400 crank hp. If you are wanting 325 wheel I think that will be on the upper end of of thee turbos ability. You would be better off with the 3071 as you can make the same power on less manifold pressure. Will be easier on thee motor with less exhaust manifold preessure too. I have heard the 3071 and 3076 have similar spool to the smaller 2871. I assume your motor is an over bored destroked L28? With only 2700cc you are not going to have thee spool time of a standard or larger L28.

Those are not the studs he is speeking of. He wants the turbo studs.

http://www.google.com/products?q=walbro+255+external&btnG=Search+Products&show=dd Took 2 seconds to find. think they are suposed to be good for like 500whp. That should be it. Several have made well over 400whp on the factory fuel lines. The tank is not baffled for fuel injection systems. So either keep the tank over 1/2 full at all times or swap to a 75 280z tank. Of course there is always building your ownn baffle or go with a fuel cell.

just because the motor has some miles on it does not mean that it would need more than a .010 overbore. Maybe try using some micrometers.

New low profile tire... Has low profile been taken too far?
jc052685 replied to B00STDZ's topic in Non Tech Board
i can dig it. just cant afford it i am sure -
i will assume there is no intercooler? Probably a draw through set up? Methinal injection is the way to go. you can get kits under $450 and they are easy to use and install from what I hear. Shoot man, maybe even going E85, that would be almost the same thing. Lots of prep work though. edit: I just saw your sig......turbo toms kit and you have a '70 (yello). I have seen you car before at the old school meet at PZ right? Think you hade a blue bottle in there too.

Gonna try to make it out to houston raceway park on Dec 5th. That is the fastest i have been in this car yet. Last run was a 12.999@104 so I picked up just over 4mph. Still has a ton left in it though. Was running 14psi on a stock long block with right over 200,000miles. And the tune was a JOKE. Just tossed the 62-1 that I had on it finaly and took like a minute and a half to tweek timming and whalla. Will have more video of my next track day for sure. If anyone else from the houston area is up for it let me know!!! edit: Oh, hood was only off cause I was being lazy after the turbo swap. Normally is on the car.

yeah......looked like they put him on the spot so he got a little stumly with words. Pretty sure he just buys stuff regardless or its purpose. I am sure you know what i mean.

down to $1.52

This is something that was bothering me. So Porsche says "We are going to send our driver out to test our car againt the Nissan GTR". Ok, then their driver does not even come close in the GTR the the, what was it, GT2? So take someone that underdstands and knows a Porsche. Then you throw them in front engined awd vehical for a day and ecpect the same times? I would bet that the persone driving the GTR around the "Ring" has been the same person driving and testing the car from day one. Probably knows the car inside and out, upside down and right side up. Just because a few peolple that have tried and then failed does not mean it can not be done. As Nissan said, maybe you need more practice?

Real ball bearing chinese turbo! $255.00 Would You buy it?
jc052685 replied to RB26powered74zcar's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
I have a buddy that was selling repacment turbos for a certain car (nothing anyone hear probably cares about). They were OE units but he tried out one of the "China" turbos. He sent it out to be remanufactured with quality parts. Has sold several hundred with not one failure and is saving himself some change. -
arrival & departure would be the same regardless. Besides, the "body" lift would have to be so tall to clear the tires while articulating that it would have a very poor center of gravity on the rocks.
