  1. I'm planning my build around Megasquirt II pcb V3.0 This will allow MS to directly fire the coil, have a rev limiter, and when coupled with the relay board, the engine bay wiring is really quite simple. but as everyone has mentioned before, just figure out what you want the car to do first, and buy once. I've converted my car from carbs to fuel injection, and now from fuel injection to adding forced induction. While the process has taught me a plethora of knowledge in regards to these cars, it sure did take what seemed to be an unnecessarily long time to get this far. Haha, Just really plan ahead.
  2. Didn't work on MY Z very much. Other than puttering. But...I managed to spray the first coats of 2k high build primer on my friend Pat's 1971 240z that is the background of many of my pictures. It was a long time coming. Here's just a SAMPLE of where it came from. The following is a modest shot to say the least. The body was pretty well neglected..But she's coming back, beautiful as ever. And here it is now. Freshly rolled out of the garage, before cleaning. He's going to drive it in primer for a while, until he affords paint. So he's slowly putting it back together. Not bad for a 800 dollar car.
  3. More random odds and ends. My 1/8" npt - 5/32 hose barb arrived. So I was able to finish up my boost gauge. And I routed the vacuum hoses for my boost gauge, and my MAP sensor on Megasquirt through the firewall. Pretty tidy. Can't complain. I'm working hard to finish it up. Soon...
  4. I'd take the orange SCCA caged car a couple links away on eBay. It's sexy.
  5. Jealousy consumes the mind... Awesome video. Sounds great!
  6. Some random plumbing I had kicking around in the garage. There are millions of ways to do it way cleaner than I did. I will most likely adapt a better looking system later on down the line.
  7. Thanks! Yeah, the BW t5 will always be a potential option later on...that, or the KA transmission. If for some reason my power exceeds the transmission. I'll be a proud man the day that happens As for progress on my electrical problem... Fixed it! This was one of the wires I found and replaced. Now I've got power at the fuse box. But the main problem was the outgoing wire from the automotive circuit breaker I installed last year inside the cabin. The connection was fried, and I was reading some continuity and 12v at the post, but not on the wire. I missed it the first time. But anyways...I did some wiring clean up, and everything in the car works once more. Phew! Also wired up the light to my boost gauge. Good luck getting a picture. Haha. Once my 1/8 npt -> 5/32 fitting arrives, I'll install my new, non broken, boost gauge for good. Then I wire my wideband! and hopefully calibrate it as well. One step back. and two steps forward!
  8. Thanks. You'll definitely see the difference with the blanket. That's for sure. And if you're talking about the PCV. I kept the stock system in tact, at least from the crankcase to the intake manifold. Since I am using a N42 intake, I had clearance issues with the PCV valve and the turbo compressor housing. I plugged the existing PCV hole, and drilled and tapped one of the old heat shield mounts for the new placement, clear of the turbo. I had to shorten an oem hose. These pictures will better explain it. Relocated PCV on N42 non egr intake manifold. Initial OEM hose (from a 1976 280z) "Modified" haha and installed. As for the valve cover. I'm just using the 5/8" K&N air filter.
  9. Wrapped the manifold. Bought a housing/blanket for the turbo (had to be slightly modified to fit the wastegate actuator.) Wrapped the downpipe about 1.5 feet Stopping just before my wideband O2. (picture shown is before I welded the bung. So not shown)
  10. Turbo housing and wrap the exhaust.
  11. Uh oh....Trouble in paradise. At least for the moment.... Accidently arced 12 volts from my headlight switch to ground on the steering column. After that I am now getting no power to my fuse box. If my fuse box gets 12 volts luckily, everything still works. So at least I didn't fry my switches! it'll be something small. Continuity checks out. Fusible link is good. Looks like I have some investigating to do....ugh. More to come.
  12. That, or I have even contemplated wrapping them in electrical tape. To potenially forgo any paint chips, should I opt to paint. Haha.
  13. Thanks Leon! And yeah, you have NO idea. I HATE looking at those damn couplers. Haha. My end goal is definitely black. I just got all of the couplers there at a steal of a deal for around a dollar a piece. Even the 90s. Of course......they HAD to be blue..... Thats the FIRST thing I plan to change once the car fires...Spend 100 bucks and buy black replacements. I can't justify it just yet.
  14. These last few pieces are KILLING me. Still chipping away at it. I want to hear my exhaust so bad now....But I keep telling myself... "soon enough.....soon enough" Plug wires and my valve cover breather arrived today. Taylor Thundervolt 10.4mm spark plug wires. Monster diameter. I had used a couple sets of the Hi Pro 8mm wires in the past, and I HATED them. Quality was poor. These are wonderful. It was either these or Magnecore. I'm happy. I'm owed around a grand for some work. So TECHNICALLY, I have more than enough money to make the car run again.....However getting paid......Now that's a whole other story entirely.....
  15. Same went for my non egr n42 intake. Until I shaved it that is.
  16. I'll start doing an inventory. Oh god...boxes....haha I'll see if I have anything mold worthy.
  17. Assuming that this IS a 280z, you could pull the boot leading to the air flow meter, and push the flapper open with your finger, with the ignition on. This will turn the fuel pump on if everything is working correctly. But from my experience, as Domzs said, I'd check the inlet screen or tank condition. Fuel pumps tend to get louder as they age, and this is only exaggerated if the pump is struggling to pull some rust, or junk through the inlet. I feel a fuel system cleanse is probably in order.
  18. I'd be 100% down. To either ship out parts (stuff I have that's good enough to mold) or buy the completed pieces, once set up. I'm also going to school in the fall for Carbon and composite materials. So I'm looking at doing the same. (making carbon Datsun pieces) I fully support this venture 110%
  19. I've added a provision to my hinge allowing for a separate cable to be run into the cockpit, in case the first cable breaks. I'll see if I can snap some pics of it when I go out to the garage today. I have yet to run the cable though. Luckily, my hood release is in good shape. I think running a cable out through the driver's fender would be a good bet. Let us know what you figure out David
  20. Pantra hatch is always a badass touch. I like!
  21. yeah, I read 8 bolts, I think? There are definitely a few "Why would you do that?" questions I have..But I figure different strokes for different folks. Cool project, I'd like to hear one run. But things like dressed weight, headgasket options (they make their own I guess), and a multitude of other variables, I find interesting. But in all honesty I am probably more intrigued by the v4 they produce out of "scraps" haha. I like that little motor.
  22. Saw this today. CRAAZY..... And they plan to put it in a 240z........ I'm curious to see how that happens... Figured I'd share. Maybe some LS guys would dig this. Or maybe some of you guys actually know whose doing it? http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-hybrids/1643786-v12-ls1-build.html there's the thread.
  23. Another mad boring update. Sorry, I've been working constantly. But I got the old Ford truck I'm working on fired up! Nice to hear the 360 breathe a little bit. But as for the Z... Transmission Fluid arrived And I've been slowly wiring the engine bay, while I wait for a steady stream of parts. Thermostat housing with all the various sensors is complete. And my thermostatic switch for my electric cooling fan is wired. Everything is soldered and shrink wrapped. Most everything is labeled, and I am figuring out the best, and cleanest way to route the wiring. Below is preliminary wideband routing. Work continues....Slowly.....
  24. Yep, I have a gasket on my pickup. And you made sure to fill the pump before installing it? I usually fill it with something real thick, like gear oil, for the first priming stage.
