Fixing this rust before it's a problem
OldAndyAndTheSea replied to BLOZ UP's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Yeah, that's 100% clean solid metal underneath. What you have is literally the epitome of "Surface rust" A wire brush, wire wheel, media blasting, or even some 80 grit sand paper (gradually working up to a 180ish grit before prime), will all clean the area nicely. Prime the area, and any other rusty areas, once cleaned. Definitely get it in primer at least, especially if, like you said, you won't be painting for a while. Looks like you're working with some SOLID bones though. Nice floors. -
Yep, I am running just that one piece of hose leading to the throttle body. No return. Just tapped, and plugged. Mainly because I live in a pretty potentially cold climate. I figure, I may have some better initial cold weather driving if the throttle body was heated. Maybe, maybe not. Haha. Figured it couldn't hurt. If for some reason it doesn't work out, or it appears unnecessary, I'll just remove it. For Florida, I don't think you'll have to worry about anything. Just run the tb with no lines attached. Most warm climate guys I know do.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed. I used to hold their shop in such high regard....I am now beginning to waver..... Give respect where respect is due, don't steal work.

my 550$ 280zx na to turbo adventure
OldAndyAndTheSea replied to col10see's topic in S130 Series - 280ZX
Awesome! I'm looking forward to the updates. And if you get stuck on anything, check out my build thread, I'm doing a very similar setup on my n42, and have been converting it throughout the winter. -
UPDATE: Nothing crazy cool, but I unbolted my downpipe and welded the wideband O2 sensor bung roughly 2 1/4 feet from the turbo. Before: After: And I still have to calibrate my wideband so I wont screw it into the exhaust until I do so, but I just did this to show how it fits. The slight angle routes the wires right along the transmission tunnel and over the transmission that will lead to the glove box on the passenger side, where the ECU will be mouted. Ugh, the weekend......Looks like no parts til next week. More to come...

Hey, thanks guys! I appreciate that. And I'm glad you're enjoying the progress. I sure am. UPDATE: Wideband O2 sensor arrived. Innovate LC-1 Also opted for the digital gauge, blacked out when not powered, blue LED when on. And currently, as I acquire the last remaining parts I need, I am labeling all of my wires, and figuring out the cleanest route when I wire the engine. I need to take my downpipe off one more time, now that I have measured for placement, and weld the wideband O2 bung roughly 2.5 feet from the turbo, near the end of the downpipe. That will most likely happen tomorrow night. Ordered and on the way: GM intake air temp sensor with pigtail GM CLT temp sensor with pigtail Dell Inspirion 910 mini notebook (refurbished) DB9 Tuning cable (and DB9->usb adapter) more to come.

From the prose of Wayne's World 2. "If you build it, they will come" I'd definitely be down to drop up to a grand on a nice carbon dash. Maybe more, I bet I'd be willing to throw away even more money if I saw an actual product, though. But I'd like to see carbon center consoles before I worry about swapping out my dash again. but that's just because I did it this time last year. There are lots of steps involved, and I have now come to realize, that if I want quality carbon parts, I will most likely have to make them myself. As a matter of fact, I will going to school in Rhode Island in the fall, to take a composite materials course.

LC-1 Wideband is in the mail. Tossed my thermostat and gaskets on the car. not much on the Z, today, But I did manage put the cab back on the frame to the '69 Ford F100 Ranger I'm putting together. So it wasn't too bad.

Awesome! You and I are basically at the same stages of development. That's awesome! excited to hear it fire up the first time. Your plans are to run the stock eccs system, Initially? or to go standalone later on? In for later

Questions about 78' 280z turbo build
OldAndyAndTheSea replied to Bigfat280z's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
If you have some time to do some reading check out my build thread. (link in my signature) I go through the majority of questions you asked. With lots of pictures. It may help you. (Start on page 3 for turbo motor related stuff) You can see my process in converting my n42/n42 setup. And I'm diving into megasquirt in the next couple weeks. So those updates will follow. Best of luck with the project! Keep us posted on progress! -

Clear split turnsignals, where to buy?
OldAndyAndTheSea replied to jangholt's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Yeah, my North American 240z only has 1 bulb for the parking/blinker lights. 1 Bulb socket, 2 filament bulb. Same with my 260 I do love how these look more though. -
WOW yeah, that makes me want to keep my ZX brown...... Looks awesome!

The directions that came with my electric cooling fan gave me two options. first, if I decided to use that brass probe, they'd recommend putting the probe as close to the inlet to the radiator as physically possible. The second option, which I opted for, was a 3/8 npt adapter, which also came with the fan. I tapped the housing for 3/8 npt and mounted it in the housing, as you were thinking. (bottom right of the thermostat housing) I'd just be really careful tapping the housing if you decide to go this route, as they are pretty brittle sometimes, and one slip of a drill can pop a hole in the side of one pretty quick. Ask me how I know
