  1. The advance Recon engines are good engines for a cruizer or everyday driver. But if you want to get some serious HP#`s I wouldn`t recomend it.None of there engines are balanced and They are all bored to .040 over and they will grind the rod and main journals as much as .040 under. Also you will have no idea what heads you are getting
  2. It looks to me like Britney is part camel I LIKE CAMELS
  3. 1) always use the manuel, noones memory is perfect 2)use a good quality clicker tourque wrench, and always back it off to zero when finished.
  4. Even "IF" my wife or girlfriend(not that I have a gf)Knew more about cars than me I don`t think I would tell anyone. P.S. SHE DOESN`T

    NASCAR

I`ve always thought that I was born in the wrong generation. I like what motorsports was, Back in the early days. Like when The first Petty`s started racing. Now those were the good ole days of nascar.IMHO much more exciting than now

I personally am not a "FAN" of any sports. Motorsports included. If I`m not driving or if I don`t personally know someone who is, It`s about all I can stand just to watch highlites. Bracket racing could be somewhat of an exception. Only because they are everyday people running real world cars. Cars that I could build at home in my garage, and drive to work if I wanted to. The cars of nascar and top fuel are interesting in an engineering aspect, and I love to feel the thunder of high powered engines with little to no exhaust. But, sitting and watching racing is really the last thing I want to do. I would rather concentrate my time and efforts on participation Rather than cheering for millionairs driving other millionairs cars that neither one has ever turned a wrench on. Owner/Builder/driver, The only way to go IMO
  7. I will have a 4 spd tomorrow. But I`m sure someone else closer to you will have one left over from their swap. ups cross country wouldn`t be cheap

My granparents have a winter house in Sebring. I haven`t been there yet, but G`ma says they are only three or four houses from the back gate entrance of the race park. I`m gonna have to start spending more time down there
  9. The sbc swap is certainly the most popular and the most documented. Jtr sells everything for the conversion including a detailed instruction manual. as for 280z tranny`s, There should be quite a few good ones sitting around, since the body usually goes before the driveline. If you`re looking to get it on the road asap,I would fix it for now and accumulate the parts for the swap over time. That way you will be able to take your time and look for bargains. Are you positive the trans is bad,or could it just be the clutch. That might be a dumb question, but I don`t know how much experience you have with this stuff.
  10. Since the engine was misrepresented,I would take it back.He shouldn`t have a problem with an even exchange for a 350 (if he`s honest). You might have to reassemble it though, but I would ask first

That`s hilarious. I`d buy a shirt, but I would probably get strung up this close to Talledega
  12. I have had good success in the past with brazing exhaust manifolds. The key is surface preparation and pre heating. first use a die grinder w/ a carbide cutter to cut at least an 1/8" deep groove in the full length of the crack.I heat the entire area surrounding the crack red hot with a torch.while it`s still hot I use an air hammer with a sharp pointed bit to chip the entire area, putting small punch marks all over the area to be brazed. As a manifold ages,a thin crust of rust forms over the surface. This chipping will remove the crust as well as creating a good "toothed" surface for the brass to adhere to.The heat helps to loosen the crust. Finally,Reheat as much of the area to red hot(and keep it red) as possible while brazing. One of the manifolds that I brazed this way has aquired over 25,000 mi so far with no problems at all. Yes it`s time consuming but If done correctly it will be a permanent repair and possibly stronger than new. Also... If at all possible try to clamp the manifold securely to minimize warping.I usually take them to a machine shop to have them resurfaced after brazing.

    How to tow?

It`s not a good idea to tow an automatic.Only do it in an emergency. Automatic transmissions only have lubrication while the engine is running and operating the pump. There is no problem if you disconnect the driveshaft though. i would trailer it if possible. To keep from messing up the bumper and also not having to worry about the driveshaft.
  14. SHKU... The School Of Hard Knocks I`m a 25th year Junior there, I don`t think I `ll ever graduate It`s too much fun
  15. you`re better off fabbing one if possible. i looked into sbc twin turbo about 6 yrs agoand they wanted 14,000 Too rich for my bload. they may have come down since then but even half would be more than I would want to put out.But I`m habitually cheap I can`t recall the name of the company....sorry
  16. Most of what I have learned about cat convertors says that the platinum in the cat when at normal operating tempurature is to burn off some sulfer, but mostly to burn off any unburned fuel(hydrocarbons).I doubt they will ever do away with cats completely. MO
  17. The problem here is calling it a "ferrari look alike". Change the tailights, wheels and spoiler, add some flares and pick a different color. It would look more like a "trick" g-nose

    hemiZ

The early hemi`s had huge hp potential when supercharged. There was an artical a few years ago in hot rod about a guy in 61 or 62 who ran a low 9. 1/4 pass in a willy`s to set the record for his class. The NHRA later revoced the record, saying that his time was unrealistic. He retired that year and put the car into storage. In the early 90`s after owning a successful tool and die shop for 20+ years he decided to redeem himsef and his record. He updated the chassis to be current and legal and reconditioned the engine. After a couple practice passes(he had not been behind the wheel of a race car since his retirement) He went out and blew out a 7.48 Now that`s vindication Throw a 6/71 on that hemi and hit the streets
  20. That looks Quite a bit like one that I built from scratch. Mine is currently holding a 71 chevelle that weighes 1200 lbs. It should be plenty strong to hold the Z. The only mods that I plan to make to mine,is to put Hydraulic cylinders on each end so tha I can raise and lower it easily with the car on it.
  21. That`s some nice garage in those first three pics Just kidding , I remember not so many years ago when I would have been happy to have somthing half as nice
  22. Q" How do you know when you`ve passed your red line? A" When the components of your bottom end will fit roughly into two five gallon buckets
  23. I don`t have a problem with people spending money that they`ve worked for on things like this. IMO if you make the money you should spend it on whatever you want. Unlike JH who is out spending money he has stolen. I feel for anyone who gets taken, whether it`s a wino that gets rolled for his shoes,or a millionaire that gets screwed for a couple hundred grand. Anyone that would rip someone off just because they can, needs to be hung by their scrotum until dead
