  1. I cannot answer your question but if you are doing all this work, $150 for a cam goes a long way. Just my $.02.
  2. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think it may also be a locked dizzy so it doesn't pull a bunch of advance timing. I may be totally wrong there but I think that is why.
  3. Interesting, I have the same manifold (or at least it looks to be the same) as the I bought from a fairlady 280zx. When I get home tonight I'll look at the numbers on it and tell you them. I actually really like the look of this manifold to, it is pretty clean and looks like a n42 with webbing.
  4. Wow this is a very interesting topic. I have not seen anything done like this before with the L series but someone more experienced than myself may have done it. Subscribing to see where this goes, I am sure it is good information either way .
  5. Just to give you a heads up, carbs don't have fuel injectors. Carbs are basically controlled chaos in terms of fuel delivery. I am assuming you have SUs (could be totally wrong) but watch those videos, they explain how they work.
  6. Well this is basically what I was going to suggest. Poly bushings would be a good replacement too.
  7. I've heard from some of the more experienced board members that OEM nissan pretty good. Do some searching on "l28 headgasket" and I am sure a plethora of information on headgaskets will come up.
  8. http://zilvia.net/f/archive-faqs/53768-low-down-s13-diff-options.html s13 diff options, read that it is good for years and what not for the 240sx option. Also, I think the nissan VLSD has a blue sticker on the diff, I have been out the 240sx scene for a minute so bare with me.
  9. I did some searching as well and came up empty handed, however, a throttle body (just the throttle body alone) should be very, very cheap for your car in the for sale forum. I wish I could help you out more and I'll keep looking.
  10. Honestly, I type this style because it was in the rules, most other forums I am registered on I use no caps at all, but since it is in the rules here and I have seen enough complain about it that I try to do my best to use capitals, correct punctuation, and spelling when I post on hybridz. I have also been working on my "your" and "you're" because I started noticing how often I was getting it wrong.
  11. I play WoW, 2 characters on gorgonnash that are horde. I have an 80 Orc Death Knight and a 75 Tauren Druid (druid was main before WotLK). My DK is a main tank for my guild running Uld 10/Naxx 25 and almost ready for Uld 25 and the druid will be heals when he is leveled.
  12. Mat, I would say give the HEI a try, its cheap and if it will make it run it will be the best $15 dollars you ever spent.
  13. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=107106&page=2 Mat, not sure if that link will help any but it seems (at least from my reading) that he had the same problem as you and is now running it w/o the GM HEI. Hope that helps, still new at this MS stuff.
  14. Beautiful paint Phil, that is a loud green but looks amazing. Post pics after she is wet sanded and buffed!!
  15. There is a huge sticky in the L6 forum called L6 heads. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=129066 That is the link. Read, read, read.
  16. There is a local drift forum with 1 other S30 guy and I think he is in MS anyway. I would say you could come to NWA but that is quite the trek from Memphis. Oh that forum is http://www.tractionoptional.com. Super nice guys over there.
  17. Anything zeppelin, but that tends to be what i listen to w/o the car as well. Also, big fan of psychedelic trance. Its weird stuff.
  18. This is a great response, a little harsh, but honestly, probably something that you needed to hear. Unfortunately for you, you are an 18 year old guy, so this means that you should really research the laws and not point fingers until you are certain that you are in the clear as we (I was an 18 year old guy not too long ago) immediately get stereotyped into being hot headed, speedy drivers, which is probably not your case. You may be lucky (very, very luck) and not had a speeding ticket since you started driving and get a far lesser penalty, but if you are like most 18 year old guys, you probably have one ha ha. I was in a similar experience when I was 17 but I had insurance, however, we both pointed fingers at who was in the wrong and due to my age and lack of driving experience (in his eyes) I was in the wrong. I was T-boned at a stop light, I was foolish and turned at a yellow light right before red, I was out in the turn lane before it was red (the actual lane that you use to cross traffic, not the stop line), which is still illegal, the lady that hit me actually ran the red light, meaning she passed the stop line after the line was red, so technically she was at fault, but like I said, I was 17 and of course due to my age and "lack of driving experience" I was handed a ticket for failure to yield. I haven't had a ticket in almost 5 years and my rates are just now starting to drop.

  20. I have always heard that 3" tends to be too big on most NA applications. I would recommend 2.5" or even 2.25" mandrel.
  21. The compression should be fine. Also http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/enginedesign/ is awesome for figuring out compression on the L6. I think if you switch to an electric pump you may need a FPR. Check the search button, it should bring up the answers you are looking for. e88 n42 combo yields 8.2:1 compression ratio. but for some reason it says the e88 is from a 260z, which means it is probably smogged down head in terms of math for compression ratio yields. If it is an e88 from a early Z (almost exactly the same as the e31) it gives you 8.5:1 which is the same as a stock l28.
  22. Lol if you think that car is a money pit, you probably will not want a Z car. Nice find man and one hell of a steal. I hope no one kills me but even if a car is sub 10,000 production number, I would still probably swap a v8 in it.
  23. http://carfiche.com/manuals023/cars/ There is a manual that you can download for the 73 240z. I imagine that the Z cars are pretty much all the same taking the brakes off. Check that out and see if it helps any.
  24. Yes, the motor combo you mentioned is possible but it would be a turd of a motor, netting around 7.2:1 compression with the l26 head/l26 piston/l24 crank. But for me I would build (being in your shoes with the parts available) a l26 with l24 pistons, l26 connecting rods, and the l26 crank with an e31/early e88 head. Reason for the l26 is well there is no replacement for displacement in terms of making power right? Check out the search function man, I was totally new to the L24/6/8 6 months ago and after a lot of reading (http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=104420 was a huge help in head choice) I learned a significant amount of info w/o having to ask anyone. People just get sick of these questions and there is always a debate, so people make threads with a plethora of information so that way it does not have to be typed again. No one is trying to be mean I promise, so take the search answer in stride because if it is a question that has been asked (just like this one) there is already 1 or more threads with more than enough information for you to make an educated decision yourself.
  25. Wow how time flies when you are working full time ha ha. Things have been very slow lately but good news and bad news. The bad news first. The l28 that came in the car I thought would have good compression. Tried to pull compression numbers and the first 2 cylinders showed almost zero compression so no go on that motor. The good news is that I am now changing direction with the car. I have decided to part the l28 out and build a SBC either 327 or 350. After some research I found that this is really what I should have been considering the whole time. The gas mileage will not be too bad (at least if i keep my foot out of it) and it will make the power I am wanting for a lot less $$$. I bought the JTR book (which, honestly other than the FSM, has been the best purchase of my Z career at the moment, I highly recommend this book if you are going to be doing a carb'd SBC swap and maybe even any v8 swap. New plan: Mild street build 327 or 350 (327 for revs, 350 for horses still debating) with a t56 trans behind it. I am hoping for a low 300whp car (and very, very possible with the 350). For now I will finish up the suspension/brakes and finish the interior work on the car and then the SBC build will began.
