  1. HOLE IN THE DRIVERS FLOOR PAN (going to be replaced) FUNKY PINSTRIPING REAR QUARTER REPAIR OVERLAP UNDERBODY CONDITION (note: new gas tank + 25 year old gas... doesn't smell too pleasant) VIEW FROM AFAR WHAT 25 YEARS OF SITTING DOES TO A VALVE TRAIN (surprise, surprise!) RARE CHEVIOT MAGS TOOK OUT THE UNCRACKED DASH TODAY (do 280z's have this problem?) SPARE TIRE WELL (doesn't seem too bad) THAT REALLY SAYS 46,700 KM, and I DON'T THINK IT ROLLED OVER EITHER. BATTERY TRAY IS RUSTY, FRAME RAILS GOING TO FIREWALL ARE NOT, THOUGH! BRE SPOILER LOOK-ALIKE. MY GUESS IS THAT IT WAS INSTALLED WHILE BEING REPAIRED. IT's GOING OFF AT SANDBLASTING TIME. WEIRD PINSTRIPE + SUNBURST DETAILS (looks weird, but COOL!) DATSUN/NISSAN Z... KING AMONGST JAPANESE SPORTS CARS
  2. Took off the lousy boat anchor bumpers, but haven't checked under any of the body panels. The car was hit from the rear at one point, and was repainted as well. it was originally a metalic green, then changed to a copper metalic red with gold and blue pinstripes, accents, and sunbursts (quite original, I must say) The previous owner of the car had passed away. The car has not been on since the owner's wife had her child, which was 25 years ago. It say outside for 6 years, and now Karen is moving, so she needed help in judging whether it was worth keeping or not. Greg from Whitehead performance had visited her house and said the car was only good for parts. While I can't question a certified restorer's opinion about the car I now own, I think it can definately be restored to a level of which I would be satisfied. She said that she was quoted in the range of 15-20k to restore the car, however, that is with someone else taking time to do their work. For myself, I can see the car being ready for a new RB25 engine for about 7000 before engine costs. so by 10,000 CDN dollars, she should be the car I've always wanted to build. The deal was that if I ever choose to sell the car when it's done, that the previous owner (Karen) gets the right of refusal for the first crack at buying it from me. However, I don't think I could sell some hard work of mine such as my first Z car. So what I proposed was progress reports as well as some joy rides once the car is complete, or in running form. Also, I've now added her and family to my list of "family members"... because that's what Z's have the power to do
  3. I finally got a 280z! Will post pics later =) Now when people mispell my screen name, and say "Carless" instead of "Careless", I will take it as a definate insult. =( meanys! <3 you guys. She's a beaut, Raffaele.
  4. that's pretty nuts for a factory luxury automobile
  5. are these the only two racks people have tried on the S30? the miata and forrester ones? typically, what should one look for when skimmin through a parts catalogue in order to find a rack that sounds like it might work?
  6. love the tubes under the wiper tray
  7. If you've ever been to Toronto, chances are that you've been to Paramount Canada's Wonderland, which is our famous themepark. And maple is the area in which that theme park is built upon. I used to live in Maple, but I now live in Toronto, back in my old hood. So it's about a 9 hour drive. Do you have pics of this car =) ?? I just got a job today that will pay about 400 a week, so that would be a months or two's work for me, plus side jobs and stuff with my new business venture or maybe an RB30 block if you have one layin around. I'd like to dig into that. was it you selling one?
  8. lol no worries here. i just miss it sometimes, you know. but i moved out of the house just last month because of some family issues, so I'm on my own now. free to do almost whatever I please... and that's why I've been more active in the Z community. because im getting one very soon for a winter project =) I've always just rolled with it. Conga-rats to you!
  9. i'll see what i can do. but even i was impressed with the dash from that one that im talkin about. its one of the cleanest i've seen, and for 200 bux it was bought.
  10. you may be correct. however, there is a white one at the shop that i was talking about that has an updated interior, and its got that same round bulky area that the G35 has, and it looks quite sweet for an old car. it looks more interesting than the flat S13 interior, and not as boxy as the S130 interiors. i think you're right about the year though. 1989
  11. how about POR15 paint for the underbody? has anyone used that before? I'm thinking of POR in silver, so that it's nice and bright when you work under the car. But that's just me WAIT: I'd actually go with rust bullet, then with some bedliner or something
  12. if you need info on these cars. you can contact mean street speed and custom here in Toronto, Ontario. They have about 10 of them on their lot. various models, even the coupe version. One is getting an FJ20 megasquirt transplant right now. There's a guy in the land down-under that has a FJ20 Gazelle, Ben Diggles. on a budget of about 100 a week, he got it to run 9's on slicks. the car is bad ass. I sorta like the 200sx because theyre like a nissan version of a AE86 corolla. And one of the good things about the 200sx is it's turning radius. Turn the wheels at full lock and you'll see what im talkin about. HUUUUUUUUUUGE wheel angle. Granted, with any engine in there, you could toss the back end out with a steering angle that high, but with some good suspension you could probably keep all that car in control. also, the newer models have a nicer interior that is reminiscent of the new G35 coupes, if youve ever taken the time to compare the two. those are the models i like. I think 1991 ish? Either way, as a nissan fan, i'd make some mods to those cars cause they're fun and reliable.
  13. i know, i like rounded flares more than angular ones, but that's not the part i was talking about. sorrry, it's hard to pinpoint it without me going into photoshop and pointing to it =( i'll get around to it. but i'll be the first to say it probably doesnt look the way i think it does in reality. photography is like that with a lot of things =/
  14. are you mocking me because I am, infact, "carless" or did you make a typo
  15. hi mull. question about the flares. i dont know if it's just me, but it seems almost as though the arch on the upper most part of the flare that needs to be smoothed out onto the body looks as if it is almost an apex. as in, it's not a perfect curve. I know it's sorta hard to achieve due to the position of the flare, and that they're hand made/rolled. but it looks almost like a vertical oval shape instead of a round shape. how do i put this?.... it's like ... a peak? at the top of the flare? but im a fan of flares, through and through, so i still like them =)
  16. question. are you trying to make it into a boat, or a car? because if it's a boat you want, then it's the rest of the car that might need some modifications to fit some pontoons or something.
  17. im with alexideways on the sr20 engine being a good choice, unless you start to open it up and do some new things to it. it wouldnt be worth the extra hassle, unless you have a transmisison to fit it and a deal for the engine, less the awd setup. the thing that makes the rnn14 sr20 stand out is the itb plenum setup, and the distributor based ignition, i think. and even if that's wrong... if you're modding it, theres no reason to get that special engine. go for an SR20VET from the japanese xtrail =)
  18. adding to that post. my father was an electrical engineer of sorts, and taught ac/dc motors at george brown college. he never really taught me much, but from looking at him solder away, i got the gist of it, and it took about a day or two to master it when i was about 12. now that im 22, I can solder like a mad-scientist. (should watch my words, i might get captured by an anti-terrorism group here in Toronto. hahahha) anyways, through use of some dipswitches, a lot of wire routing, and some technical decisions, I have created what I like to call the MegaSplash board. LOL j/k. It's basically A megasquirt board with all the options wired in, instead of leaving them out while doing the soldering. The advantage to this board is that it can be used on all types of setups. Hall/Optical/VR/etc etc etc. How? well, first, you're gonna have to make slight modifications PER application of the megasquirt, but before that, all you gotta do is flip these switches, shown here: (note the transistor and diode for extra control feature. (i think it's boost control. haven't touched the MS in a while. engine still being built) and on the back of the board, you have this.... looks weird, but YOU DONT HAVE TO DO THIS. and it's not as confusing as it looks. everything is just hooked up to a "ON/OFF" switch, so you can turn off wires, or turn them on... This is probably the most wires you will ever see on anyones megasquirt board. simply because there are 3 other megasquirts in the shop, and I want to be able to make sure that we atleast have one fail-safe test board that we can use on the other two megasquirt cars, should they have a failure or something, or their MS gets fubar'd. MEGASQUIRT is fun, if you're into DIY things. i did these modifications because I felt that it was fun to go ahead and try something that I haven't seen before, for whatever reason I thought possible. and upon booting up the Megasquirt with the required 4AGZE mods, it works fine. the ultimate test will be when the car gets it's heart. and when I try to attack that, we will see if it all paid off. but i'm doing it for free for a friend anyways, so the only payoff is gratitude and piece of mind that I can tackle an electrical situation such as this, and I don't even own a car of my own. that, for me, is the biggest challenge and best achievement, should everything go as planned. GOOD LUCK, we're with you every step of the way dude! EDIT: WHY ARE THE PICTURES NOT RESIZING WHEN I SCRUNCH THEM DOWN TO SIZE. GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.. !!! SORRY.
  19. i can vouch for DIYAutoTune, and Jerry. although my friend didn't buy his megasquirt kit from DIYautotune, Jerry has given me a world of knowledge and assistance with a AE86 4AGZE turbo build that I was emailing him about back and forth a few months back. Had I known that he was the guy to go to, well... I would have gotten my friend to go to him! although the other megasquirt distributors are good in their own right, I know where to put my money should I be doing a similar project in the future (which I'm sure I will, since I started my own hobby shop last week) +1 for DIYAutoTune and Jerry and Matt (i'm sure he's as every bit as helpful as the Jerry is!).
  20. this video is kickass, wait until the final quarter of the movie to see what im talking about. maybe it's the french anthem or something, being renault... but wow. that sounds like funs! www.k20a.org/RenaultF1Enginewarmup.wmv
