  1. Guy, A hydraulic lifter can be 'made' into a solid lifter by just taking all of the adjustment out of it. Just tighten them down until you have overcome the internal lifter spring. That way you take the 'hydraulic failure' out of the equation. Set them all like that and see if you 'tapping sound' is still there. It's at least a way to determine if your lifters are the problem before you lay downn $$ for new ones. Tim
  2. I agree. The only reason I ge Sport Z is because it's the only game in town. There isn't any other Z specific mags out there. I don't think that it's all that good. They don't really tackle any new or cutting edge info. I would like to see them spend some time investigating some new oem conversions, like the Toyota 4x4 brake upgrades...there has to be some other oem options out there. They should have a section for "JY upgrades"...you know, like seats, brakes, wheels, engines, suspension etc. Now that would be good info for their readers as I believe that the vast majority of the Z ownership can't and won't afford the high $$ custom upgrades like big brake kits etc...we are basically all cheap @sses at heart! My 2c worth. I bought a subscription mainly just to support a couple of guys who are trying to cater to the Z community. A valiant pursuit. Tim
  3. The only reason he is signing it is as a last ditch effort to get the Latino voters to vote against the recall effort. Once again, he is putting his personal agenda ahead of the welfare of the State! Tim
  4. I remember hearing that the 280 strut top mounts are taller. Could it be that the car had those swapped in at some point? Tim
  5. Dang Guy...send him a better picture... Nice anyways! Tim
  6. It's a bloody conspiracy I say!! I would love watching British Touring car racing, or German Touring cars, or Aussy Touring car racing back in the home Country!! Now that's racing!!! Opels, Audis and Volvos going at it door to door...and also the truck racing...now that is a trip!! Big 'ol tractor trailer horses going full tilt...wayyy cool!! If I want to take a nap on a Sunday afternoon, I just put on the NASCAR race, I'm out in a matter of minutes!! Rant over... Tim
  7. Did you put a block of wood on the timing chain to keep the tensioner from popping out? I hope so. Last time I swapped out heads, I put in a block of wood, but it still popped out when I was trying to get the chain and gear back on the cam!! It took me 4 hours of maddening frustration to pop the tensioner back in without pulling the front cover!! Tim
  8. Try these guys, Jamie: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/index.php Tim

  11. Just go grocery shopping with your Mom before you leave, then raid the pantry. Make sure she buys lots of beer, too. That gets expensive!! Tim
  12. Just be careful that you don't damage the roller contact surface of the bearing race when you are pounding it in. If you put a significant scratch in the surface, you will have to get a new one. Tim
  13. Mike...nothing wrong with showing off your new shiny parts...nothing at all.!! Tim
  14. Yeah the one piece rubber gasket is a godsend! I installed one on my LT1...no messing with sealant at the front and rear joints etc....great stuff...well worth it, and they can be reused over and over and over! Tim
  15. I always thought you had to be some kind of alien! Tim

  18. I'm watching this one!! If it doesn't get very very high, I WILL bid on it. I have a SBC 4 bolt '10' block sitting in the garage, just waiting for something to do!! Tim
  19. What about this option: Buy all the tubing bends etc, cut it up to the right size and shape and mark the joints with a sharpie (in at least 3 places on each side of each join, each mark with a different number or symbol). Then take all the parts to the exhaust shop to get welded up. Tim
