  1. Shiro looks good to me, like most cars of that time wide wheels make a hell of a difference.
  2. Interesting, when building the 280ZX and after discussions with the custom suspension builder, I settled on 400F, 300R. Thats wheel rate, car does not have the original type rear suspension. Subsequent circuit driving experience has confirmed that choice. So, to keep on topic, with that sort of setup and with no rear ARB and a helical/torsen LSD, we should end up with a car down a bit on mid corner speed but up in the corner entry and exit areas?
  3. Yes it is worth a bump, needs more discussion and less digression Pic of the ZX doing its wheel lifting thing but thats mostly due to the track layout there. Stiff front ARB, no rear ARB though.
  4. No, lithium (white) grease. Like the factory used originally.
  5. At top of the gearbox where the gear lever fits in, according to Nissan's info book on the 280ZX. I guess that would be fairly representative of any similar car ie straight six motor, RWD.
  6. Short video of a couple of stockish road registered FWD cars making a Ferrari earn its keep. Camera car is a Celica, the car the Fez eventually passes is a Honda DC2 Integra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6hFDzYOEqQ
  7. Your average FWD powertrain is more efficient than a RWD one, so more engine power gets delivered to the wheels. Where FWD's suffer is accelerating from standing starts so rolling starts suit them nicely. The other point I have noticed in competing with fellow amateurs in what are basically street cars is this. FWD cars can be driven on the limit much more easily/safely than RWD or AWD cars, assuming all of them have a decent but not necessarily perfect setup. Late model FWD's, particularly Hondas, handle very well near the limit so they can be driven there constantly, something its much harder to do with a RWD car. With pro drivers this appears not to be nearly as relevant but I have no experience there so..........
  8. What about the hicks with the Falcon GT in Tasmania, probably more of an Aussie thing but On a more serious note, Targa Tasmania is a hell of a ride, last one was won by a R35, still see the occasional S30 competing.
  9. If its any consolation the racers and drifters lock the Nissan rear steer up.
  10. Well if they were cheap then everyone would have one
  11. Prefer a diesel oil to any ATF mix myself, diesel oils are high in detergents plus the right ones still use zinc etc anti wear additives. Which a lot of car oils don't use now.
  12. Those S30 steering arm holes are a bitch to drill out too, hard as.
  13. Best not to have them too strong anyway, steering gear needs a 'weak' link so when you hit a kerb or whatever that part will bend and save the rack from severe impact.
  14. Hmmm, wonder how a hammer finish paint on a car would go? Car would still be easy to clean, could look good too.
  15. If you don't have a place to work on it under cover then you are prettly well stuffed eh. Yeh they are a hobby car and though more reliable than most still require attention from time to time.
  16. They don't have struts at the back but it sounds like the rubber components of the springs/dampers need replacing. Perhaps this bump will result in a more informed response.
  17. The bellmouths in the plenum I'm getting made for the VG30DET are finished in 60 grit for the same aero reson I believe. Perhaps we should all go over our paint work with 60 grit? . . . .
  18. "I am in the honest belief that japanese auto makers need to follow suit to some of the exotics and offer a strip down race version of their sports cars much like the GT3RS and the Lambo Gallardo Superleggera, I know I am not the only person that would love to see a revamped Silvia or the New FT-86 with a cage from the factory simply just two race seats, a good motor, rwd or awd, and a LSD. How simple is that? Seriously if they could bring the FT-86 in that format in a stripped down model with just the necessities it would sell like hotcakes. I know we have the Evo RS but really they didn't take it far enough I feel." Something in what was said above I think, Porsche have been doing stripped out sports/racing cars for years, look at the profits they make. Can't work out why the mass producers like Toyata and Nissan don't do the same using say 90% standard parts, the rest special. 370Z would be an excellent candidate for 'the treatment'.
  19. Differential seems to be working
  20. Yeh that front spoiler above comes up every few months in one thread or another and the same questions keep getting repeated every few months or so. So searching is a good idea May want to look in the Vendor's forum too, there was a nice front one mentioned there last time I looked.
  21. You do realise that they are in Australia and freight on something like a door skin would be expensive to the US. Don't know of anyone who has used them so can't help there, sorry.
  22. Swim suits too, shark skin inspired and all that sort of stuff. On the golf ball thing, its more the shape, cars are not that shape at all. Aero can be done for cars using other more suitable devices.
