  1. What kind of Rod/Stroke ratio would one have to run to eek past the 85mm stroke? And what would you guys consider an acceptable rod/stroke ratio for turning a motor sort of tight (8k)?
  2. I have the vertical mount like you. I just took a pair of angle iron brackets  and drilled some holes so that they extend backward a little bit and I then bolted the bracket to that. I'm sure there are nicer or better ways of doing it, but my car has seen about a year of DD service with that trans and no issues.Â
  3. I'm sure that the RB is exactly a torquey motor given the alternatives.... They do sound pretty though.
  4. Single Scull along the same lines. Ski or Snowbard?
  5. So... 700hp for a 12sec quarter? Seriously though, you'll most likely be happy with any of Munich's finest. If you decide on one however just make sure that you get the sump issue resolved. Most (all maybe?) bmw's have chain driven front oil pumps and that may be hard to clear with the Z crossmember, depending on your choice.
  6. Welcome back thread, I've missed you so... Original Mini. Air dam? or no air dam?
  7. Is a thread dead after six months? Both of these motors are entirely too heavy to be productive in a solid Z, IMO. The cummins is just silly.
  8. Yes. This motor needs to go into a Z. Just be farwarned. They're expensive. That nonwithstanding, they're amazing. Do it. Do it now. 3.5L Of gorgeous Group A derivied I6 German love? Or the RB25.Â
  9. What's teh Garage of Champions? And which "M" power? S14,S38, S5x, S60, S65, S85? There's quite a bunch of them. It's like saying you're going to stuff an AMG motor into a Z. That narrows it down...to half a billion. E36 and E46 esque S5x is already in process by RTz (and of course I have to beat his car   ) but I don't think an S38 has been done yet. I would kill to see an S38Z they're one of my favorite I6's. Just remember they're LONG motors compared to their contemporaries. And RB's are boring. Flame Suit ON.

They're itty bitty little motors no? Well some careful research has found me that the wideblock 4G and the 6A share the same bellhousing (supposedly) and by getting the starion motor'd bellhouse out of an 87-88 B2600 pickup (ute?) you can use the FD RX7 5 speed. I'm not sure if you're going to be using the DOHC or SOHC variants but you will have to deal with half of the important connections coming out of the back of the motor, essentially into the flywheel. A main coolant hose and the air intake are the main concerns I'm seeing right now. But if you can do it, why not? N/A It may not be the quickest car in the world, but if ya like it, go for it. Turbo may be cool.
  11. This is where I say two things: In before the lock AND. It would be a cool gadget to have. I've yet to actually be shown some flow tables for one of these compared to an L28 or a LY head done on the SAME flow bench (IMO, Most flow benches are like dyno's, you can make it fib the numbers ...) Is it 20k cool? no. Being HBZ I can get a bunch of cool ENTIRE engines for 20k. Names like BMW ///M, AMG, Ferrari, etc come to mind and it's a full long block, hell maybe even a full swap. Not a head.
  12. Wait, is this where the OSG fans come and support the head violently while the SOHC Fan base comes and tosses out reasons why anything other than an SOHC is a pointless expenditure and any intelligent person would know this? Imma get a beer and some popcorn and wait until a mod cans this. It could be almost as fun as the last time this happened like six months ago.
  13. If you can catch a birdy with your emblem you will have my eternal respect... It is HBZ. Why not an award for most different parts off of different cars to make one datsun?
  14. No it does not. But since we didn't get the WC type reverse setup the reverse fork sits on this big fiddley rotating arm deal and if it's not setup right can be a pita to get into reverse.
  15. I feel nissan wouldn't just allow a car with a 2'' long gouge out of the side of the passenger fender to be in the heritage collection.Â
  16. I'm not sure what he speced the clearances too on the trans and what they are in relation to a ford T5 since one of the big differences on the two is the input shaft. You'd have to ask him what he set the lash for. I'd run the box if it was a little (read a thou or two) loose, but if it's tight compared to FSM specs (you're going to need the S130 turbo i think 1983 fsm has it, xenonZ31 website should) I wouldn't run it since the box will get hot in any gear but 4th.
  17. It is possible that when they put the car in they didn't want to shorten a drive shaft so they bent things until they fit. I'd recommend against that.
  18. Â Today's fun fact: The 1100ci (Thanks roger) Ford GAA tank engine used in the sherman tank had a 180 degree crank. and 32 valves with a pent roof chamber and quad cams. Food for thought: Edit: Dad gum metric system is buggerin' with my head...
  19. Great looking car. She should be a blast to drive.
  20. They should be aligned. The initial series 1 240's had the diff offset, but the 280 should have the diff output centerline and the stub shaft/axle centerline be the same. I would go this rout when you put in your IRS 8.8.
  21. Who rebuilt it? 3rd gear is the first ratio on the mainshaft (right behind the input) and if the input/main shaft is not shimmed correctly and rebuilt correctly it will make noise. Best guess is someone half assed it and put new bearings in and did not re-shim or didn't touch the bearing between the main shaft and the input.
