  1. I agree with stony, my intake fitted up great, however the casting wasn't perfect but it works fine so im happy. As far as the exhaust manifold I have an OBX on and it was a pain to get mounted correctly alot of work with a file as well as rewelding and repositioning the turbo flange. So far though its working nice. Stony has some good copies from the sounds of things, I had some bad ones I think it basically comes down to the consumer knowing what they are buying. Ill have to check who I got the mainfold off I bought it last year. Its easy to say that knock off are crap or knock offs are awesome, I personally believe it is a case by case situation. If you can save some money safely do it. On the same note be prepared to lose a bit of money if the product turns out crappy like my BOV I bought. Cheers Chris
  2. Thanks for the advice Chris, Now that the computer has learned a bit the AFR's are much more stable... the voltage is steady too and the only weird thing is the engine temps so I still have to figure if its sensor related or actually not heating up. Any how the car rips so Ill try to get some video for you guys. As per usual thanks for all the help!
  3. Hey guys my brother and I finally have the Z legitimately on the road and man does it rip. Ill update my other thread with some pics and videos once she is good to go. Any how were having a couple teething problems, nothing major more just a couple questions. 1. What voltage does your RB-z run at? Mine is around 14v off the battery is this too much ? 2. On Deceleration my AFR go really lean is this normal ? Under boost the car is nice and rich so there isn't a problem there I'm just worried about scorching something. 3. What water temp do you guys normally run at, I have a aluminum rad and flexalite fan and so far the car never goes much above 100 it hit I think 140f once though when it was sitting idling for a long time. 4. What RPM are you guys shifting at ? so far 6k is all my car has seen, it has a refreshed block with new bearings other than that the block is pretty much stock. 5. On a side note I have a line on an AEM ECU + MAP sensor for 1350 is that a good deal ? Thanks guys ! Chris and Rob Crombie
  4. Man thats a clean car ! I really like the ZG's and wantannabes, very cool man.
  5. Hey Ben, Im using a Jun style copy and to be honest it works great and looks good too. If you don't care about using a knock off in principle then go for it. I would steer clear of knock off blow off valves etc because the ones I have had experience with are trash. I figure if I save a few hundred here and there where I can it really adds up. Any how thats my two cents worth .. Chris
  6. Thats a great Compressor, we have the same one in the shop I hope you like it. I find it a bit loud in the winter but thats to be expected.
  7. Thats looking awesome, your car is so clean ! Can't wait to see it finished !
  8. Another option is going to a hydraulic store if there is one handy, they sometimes have some pretty exotic fittings and pipe you could use. Q's idea is the simplest I'd do it of you still have the ends. Chris
  9. Wow ! That is fantastic! I really really like the look of the car, what you have done is almost what I had pictured in my minds eye was seeing for my car down the road. What colour of white are you using ? Also what kind of wheels are those they look like wantanabes/rota rb's .. ? Man what a nice car.
  10. Wow, that sure does sound mean ! Do you have cams in it or is that just the way it sounds ? Mine not that lumpy thats for sure, I really like the sound. Glad to see your car back together man !
  11. Thanks Evan, Whats the best way to run a diagnostic on the ECU ? I'll check the maf tonight its most likely that. Ill also check the timing. The wastegate is most likely messed up Ill try and get another . .. Thanks for the fast responses, were new to this and really appreciate it. Chris and Rob Crombie
  12. Well got some more progress, we had the Z on the road this weekend, just a couple rips up and down the road. Heres a video of it . . . http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Test-drive_166437.htm I have a couple questions, once I get into it the engine starts to missfire and lugs a lot, what usually is the cause for this ? Second what rpm range are you fellas building boost at ? I have a t3/t4 hybrid and I was seeing 5psi at around 4k is that a little sleepy ? Would a crappy wastegate influence that, mine is definatly bypassing some exhaust at idle so it that normal ? Im going to get a new o2 sensor orderd up today so hopefully that might resolve part of the issue. Chris and Rob
  13. Awesome, some really good idea's ... a buddy of mine has an in at Nitto ... Ill ask him about pricing on the 555's
  14. Thanks Jeff, Ill check the intercooler pipes ... we have a pretty badass external pump its a BBK one that the Mustang boys use on their Cobras ... Careless, Thanks man Im going to get a new o2 sensor today or monday Hopefully I can figure it out Cheers Chris
  15. Well it seems I jumped the gun a little, the car no longer hunts for idle, however now if I hit the throttle or try to blip it any way other than very slowly the engine bogs right down. Falling on its face, the MAF was wired in incorrectly and that is now fixed, this bogging issue is weird though. Would a faulty TPS sensor cause the engine to be confused ? The engine seems to run pretty rich so Im not sure. Im going to get a new o2 sensor today hopefully rulling that out. Does anyone know the part # for a RB25Det series 2 o2 sensor? Or an cross reference ? Any how thanks for the ideas, the bugs are slowly getting worked out... Thanks Chris and Rob
  16. Its fixed !! Thanks guys, it turned out to be that the signal ground and the power ground of the maf were combined so the thing was reading all over the place. Thanks for the help.... now to get those fenders back on and take it out of the shop . . .
  17. Thanks for the fast responses, PanzerAce: Fuel filters are in great condition and I;m running big lines 3/8's janaka: Im going to check for leaks thats a really good idea streeteg: Im going to check that idle screw ... I took off my idle air crap though . . . . would that do it ? I blocked off the hole and the interesting thing is that it was running worse with the idle control hooked up. . . Evan/Careless: Im going to try a different Maf I have an extra lying around Thanks guys ! ! I have my night planned out now !
  18. Thanks for the feed back, that defiantly helps. I really really want a set of Konig Rewinds but unless they can custom make some fat ones for the back I might not. . . I was going to go 7's all around but after getting your feedback and riding in a skyline Im thinking other wise. So basically I need a combo that allows at least 245's or more in the rear ?
  19. Well the RB is running and can move the car now. We have a bit of a problem though as the engine seems to be constantly hunting for an idle, reving up and down with almost no power. If you try revving it it falls on its face and bogs. Does any one know what could be causing it ? I was thinking it could be a bum o2 sensor but im not sure. We have a big throttle body with a q45 TPS sensor which seems to be giving the correct voltage too. Any one have a similar issue ? Any input would be awesome ! This is on a stock block RB with an intake and exhaust manifold running on the stock ECU w/stock injectors. Thanks Chris Crombie
  20. Well the Datsun moved under its own power the other night which was very exciting, so we are getting very close now. I also got a ride in an R32 GTR, MAN those things are quick ! Im wondering now if my rims will be too small to give the car any traction, I was looking at a set of 16x7 rewinds with I think 205/45/16 rubber on them. Its not set in stone yet though . What size of rear tires are you guys running and how are you finding them? Ideally I would like to get some 16x9's and flare the cars but choices for a Watanabe style rim is pretty slim in that sizing. Any one have any ideas or experiences that could help me out ? Thanks Chris Crombie
  21. Ive got the flange you need pm me or look for something similar . . . .
  22. Rb25's arn't pink least the ones I have are purple on top. If you find out you have a bum injector you can always steal some of a sr20det they are the same I think. If you have a friend with a stock ECU around here it might be worth trying that too. As the other guys said depending on the tune of it that might be causing half the problem. Any how best of luck oh also have a look at the idle air valve on your intake manifold, the RB's run really screwy if there is a vacuum leak. good luck Chris
  23. thanks for the kind words guys, Ill try and put a better video up soon Chris
  24. Just as a heads up, rewiring the chassis isn't that big of a deal as long as you are very methodical. If your not, it is a huge pain, my brother and I basically replaced the entire wiring in our Z while doing the swap as there were quite a few bum wires and shorts in the system. So if you want to minimize the stress of trouble shooting the RB once it is in, it is a nice piece of mind to know that the wiring at least is fresh. Just try not to overwhelm yourself and get an UNCUT harness or better still a front clip for your swap. Hope that helps Chris
