  1. thier very nice engines that have a few quirks, they don,t weight much more than a sbc and thier blocks better designed, the valve train in stock form sucks but you can work around that, the intake and cam needs to be changed if your serious about power http://cad500parts.com/ http://members.tripod.com/~CadillacMan/79cadpage.html
  2. "Grumpy, you have no right to be jealous, because I think you have the best shop I've seen yet. You have something no other person has, a bass pond out back. I think I wouldn't get a whole lot done with that pond nearby" Oh IM not jealous ,I love my new garage/shop, thats just the wifes knee jerk responce to the picture! and yeah, the pond covers about 3/4 of an acre and I seeded it with minnows, shiners, brimm and bass when I built the place 10 years ago, the end of my street is where the everglades boundry canals located and we get otters and gators in the yard frequently. its full of fish, in fact my 5 year old nephew stopped over and wanted to go swimming , (I didn,t want him in the pond I told him to use the pool) ,he asked why? now I felt Id stop this swimming in my pond crap real fast and have some fun with a joke at the kids expence,I told him it was full of PRANIA, and they would EAT HIS LITTLE BUTT if he jumped in,, getting a few slices of old bread I said WATCH THIS! I frizbyed the slices out a few yards and on impact the water boiled with fish eating the bread (brimm,& shinners) but the kid doesn,t know the differance and stays 5 yards up the bank where hes safe ever since.....see it pays to be a devious old grumpy guy
  3. your the WRONG AGE AND SEX and unlikely to have ENOUGHT OF the correct clients to blackmail , to generate the cash flow necessary, youll be forced to go the slow steady route
  4. stop bye my garage and see what Ive accomplished on a VERY limited budget and youll be impressed, yeah it took 40 years to get where Im at in tools and skills and work area, but Ive progessed steadily, learned a great deal, had several competative race cars, and Im still married and remain finacially solvent and at least partly sane ...so it can be done! REMEMBER this is a HOBBY not the MAIN GOAL in your life, remaining financially solvent, mentally stable, and providing a good home for your family comes far ahead of building a toy to play with. if it takes you 3-12 years to build EXACTLY what you want, your not at any huge disadvantage, its the process and the skills aquired and the finished product ,not the time it took that matters. BTW NEWS FLASH!!! nothing you ever build will be cutting edge competative simply because you don,t have the time or money to compete with guys that do it full time with mega buck budgets, so relax and enjoy building what your ideal car is and don,t get crazy, a nice looking and driveable 10-12 second car is a reasonable goal
  5. Id point out that YOUR skill level depends a great deal on both YOUR determination to get the job done correctly and the group of guys you hang out withs SKILL LEVELS. if you hang out with a bunch of guys that don,t have a clue or the tools skills and determination to succeed your at a HUGE disadvantage WE can,t change the past,we ALL, learn some lessons the hard way, its learning to not repeat mistakes and looking at other peoples mistakes and learning from those screw-ups that advances the hobby and helps you prevent FUTURE problems heres the secret, if your not actively working toward your SPECIFIIC goal WITH a check list, and having done the research to make sure it will work once its done, your very unlikely to ever reach/attain your goal it helps a great deal set a goal,to write up a check list, with ALL necessary parts, collect the parts ON that LIST and not get OFF COURSE. lets assume youve always wanted a 700 hp 572 bbc, http://electronic-pr.com/pr/text/new_wp_369.htm a 4l80E trans http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4L80E.htm a DANA 60 rear four wheel disc brakes and 4 weber carbs on that big block http://www.carburetion.com//Weber/wildv8.asp stuck into a 1967 COBRA replica http://www.factoryfive.com/table/ffrkits/roadster/roadsterkit.html ONE OF MY BUDDIES DREAM GOALS first step, make damn sure you really want to reach the goal, RESEARCH everything you can on similar cars and drive trains list IN DETAIL all the components and possiable sources step two, budget what ever you can EVERY week into a fund, and sell off anything (speed parts, old cars,)you currently don,t need to REACH that goal. get a check list, start making contacts amoung suppliers and club members that may help you reach the goal,DON,T BUY STUFF THAT IS NOT ON THE LIST OR SPEND CASH THATS NOT NECESSARY on other GOAL:S the time to change whats ON the list or find what parts work correctly is BEFORE BUYING PARTS "So what am I to work on/play with for the next 33 years while I save up the money, and where do I learn the skills? " your hardly the first guy to point out that "problem" or be the first guy working on an extremely tight budget, or not having all the skills, but If you joint a couple local CORVETTE or HOTRODDERS clubs and spend a good deal of time helping guys in those clubs work on THIER cars WHILE making LOTS of friends and contacts, youll be very surprized at the amount of parts ON YOUR LIST that will pass bye your nose durring the next few months/years and the skills you can pick up or find someone that has, ESPECIALLY if your very helpful and let it be known exactly what your working towards it goes back to making a specific list and sticking to it EXACTLY you may not have the cash for much but if you visit enought salvage yards and talk with and help enought people ypoull quickly find a good deal of the parts youll need, its all the small stuff that adds up and takes time anyway, so get that detailed list of parts, do the research, and joint the local guys with similar goals.....sure It can take years, Ive spent 5 years just getting about 2/3rds of the parts for my bbc engine swap in my corvette, but at least I KNOW exactly what I need and have accumulated a good deal of it so far and you can also!!! its HARDLY rare to find guys willing to swap you parts they don,t need for HELP on thier projects, Ive gotten several complete used bbc engines and a 4L80E trans and several rear end assemblys, corvette parts,ETC. that way over the years...you may not have much use for lets say a 455 buick engine, or dodge 440, but if some guys willing to give it to you for rebuilding his engine or trans ETC. its almost sure to find a new home and be converted in money toward your project goals, and if your INTO the GROUP, and WILLING TO HELP OUT OTHERS, DEALS LIKE THAT WILL APPEAR....JUST don,t think you need to get PAID for all work, the object is BOTH gaining PARTS and GAINING SKILLS AND FRIENDLY CONTACTS in the hobby making a good friend out of a guy with a few assets like a tig welder or a lift for the time it takes to do a few small projects like brake jobs is time well invested
  6. my son builds and restores those arcade machines as a hobby, if you need any parts, used cabinets or components Im sure he can get them reasonably priced
  7. DMANOZ57 I showed your garage to my wife......she looked at me and said...... "youll just have to get by with your current garage, its 400% bigger than the shop you worked in for 30 years,AND IM not building you, or letting you build, a bigger one just because some guy on the internets got a bigger one than you and your not getting anything for x-mas either, that garage cost me well in excess of what we planed as it is!" YESSSS DEEER.......LITTLE, DOES SHE KNOW ABOUT ALL THE NEW TOOLS IM PLANNING ...HAAAAAA!!!
  8. heres more pictures of my garage project if you missed them on the other thread well finally got the stucco the lift the bathroom installed in my new garage so Im advancing slowly I got most of the ELECTRIC in now, Ill post more pictures as the work progresses got paint now!, IM still waiting on the shelving to arrive
  9. that problem is a serious lack of money we can afford to spend on car parts due to lifes little expences like food, rent, wives ETC.and wasting the money we do get. theres four major areas/variations, I see guys screw up in frequently (1) the DEAL, where guys buy parts that don,t match simply because they get a good price,(usually on used parts that failed to work on a buddies car) (2)lack of planning where guys buy parts seemingly at random as the money becomes available, that don,t match or ones that may look good but can,t work well togeather, usually as a result of magazine articles, half understood, where they failed to duplicate the WHOLE COMBO (3)money burning a hole in your pocket!! this is where youve saved $1100 toward the purchase of the $1900-$3000 heads you know you need and the "DEAL" appears, you figure that youll get the cheaper parts and get the cam, intake,ETC. and be better off... (4) building the WRONG CAR,youve always wanted a 600 hp big block,in a 1965 GTO, or 1967 corvette,1969 camaro ETC. but your pouring money into building a 1980 caprice with a 355 simply because you have one and don,t think you could ever afford your dream goal so I was wondering if anyones got any good ideas as to work from home jobs, hot stock market tips, and care to share them?? or the older guys can point out the ERROR of HASTE and not sticking to the PLAN vs RESEARCH AND BUILDING IT CORRECTLY its more realistic to find a source of income to finance the hobby thru a second source/(job) any suggestions gentelmen??????? remember you can either throw MUCH greater amounts of money at a build where alot is wasted,or learn to do it slowly and correctly too plan on a budget
  10. "The Brodix RaceRites have many more options." very true! but not at the $900 price range for an assembled head the price jumps about $400 higher http://www.brodix.com/heads/raceritesb.html http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category2_10001_10002_26145_-1
  11. both limited to large caliber revolvers favorite=bowling pin shoots http://www.handloads.com/articles/default.asp?id=13 good practice for hunting http://www.lasc.us/IHMSA10_C.htm
  12. hutchensce /updated info "I posted a couple of days ago that a guy over on Stevesnovasite had reported that the Summit aluminum heads that go for about $900 are actually Brodix IK200's. Well, he sent me some pics of these bad boys today and I'd say hes right. As you'll see, they have Summit markings on them instead of Brodix, but otherwise...they look like a VERY good deal at $900. I don't believe you can get them with the CNC chambers though. The CNC'd bowls and intake runners look very nice though. Just imagine what a little cleanup could do for these! For your viewing pleasure: Cheers!"
  13. set up and install/tunned correctly methanol mixed with nitrous will work just, fine, but I don,t think theres any net advantage over race gas with tolueene, yes methanol burns slightly cooler, its also harder to vaporize and mix into the air flow in fine droplets, and it takes a good deal more methanol to make the same power and the stuffs so damn coroasive, its not in my opinion a good idea. the question is NOT can it work, (it will) its will it be worth the hassles and can I get the same or more power with less problems any advantage you could potentially get from methanol you can exceed and tune easier with race gas/ toulene simply use race gas and toulene mixed, with a dash of marvel mystery oil and increase the nitrous jet, youll have no coroasion problems and no detonation, superior droplet dispersion, and more complete cylinder burns, Ive had no problems with a 250hp nitrious/toulene system in several cars over the last 12 years and its what I use in my vette "Methanol is wood alcohol. Ethanol is grain alcohol and found in Gasohol in 10% ratios. Both alcohols are mildly corrosive and will eat gas tank linings, rubber and aluminum if used in excessive ratios. Main ingredient in "Gas Dryers", combines with water" read thru this http://www.elektro.com/~audi/audi/toluene.html look the main reason they don,t use heavy doses of toulene in the gas at some tracks is the same reason you can,t run nitromethane, THEY CHECK for that and its against some race track rules theres a huge differance between a dedicated, turbo/intercooled race engine running a ton of boost over 8 seconds and one set up for street/strip use, that needs to keep running for years, that won,t have its oil and bearings checked between weekend maintinance
  14. running the fuel/air mix slightly rich (at about 12.0-12.5:1) under nitrous drops combustion temps and tends to delay detonation please don,t think IM saying methanol can,t be made to work well, I ran a 13.7:1 cpr 496 bbc on methanol with CROWER injection for several months, I just felt the problems far out weight the advantages, you need to change oil very frequently, everything methanol touchs it corroads, especially aluminum and the power gains were in the 10% area, the car was FASTER useing the TOLUEENE and NITROUS things to read http://www.turbofast.com.au/racefuel15.html http://www.kemcooil.com/products.php?cId=4 http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/detonation/detonation.html http://victorylibrary.com/mopar/nitrous-tech.htm http://www.diabolicalperformance.com/hotrodoctane.html http://victorylibrary.com/mopar/chamber-tech.htm http://www.motorsportsracingfuels.com/OctaneCalculator.html http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/methanol-race-fuel-pros-cons-48415.html
  15. first Id point out that alcohol is HYDROSCOPIC it ABSORBS moisture and can and frequently does cause coroasion, its a poor substuitute for a correctly designed system and race gas next Id point out that 100 hp shot of giggle gas requires the ignition retarded slightly (about 4-6 degrees) and having a nitrious controller is a great asset and that if your going to use a seperate fuel tank to supply the nitrous spray/fuel ID suggest a mix of race gas with a heavy percentage of TOLUEENE and a small percentage of marvel mystery oil as an upper cylinder lubricant the basic plan is RUN SLIGHTY RICH A/F mixture and retard the ignition slightly things to read http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/misc/octanebooster.html http://www.ws6.com/mod-11.htm http://www.ws6.com/mod-13.htm http://www.chevytalk.org/threads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=629333&an=0&page=0#Post629333 http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=NOS%2D02001NOS&N=700+115&autoview=sku
  16. just some info tunnel ram intakes work most effectively on a 350 sbc in the 3500rpm-8500rpm plus band, AND REQUIRE MATCHING CAM TIMING AND COMPRESSION RATIOS, PLUS A REAR GEAR RATIO THAT ALLOWS THE ENGINE TO STAY IN THAT 3500rpm-8000 PLUS RPM BAND below that, mixture distribution, the large plenum and straight runners ram tunning tends to be counter productive, or not effective yeah it will look good ,but a good single plane intake like this http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=HLY%2D300%2D110&N=700+115&autoview=sku will usually produce better power up to about 6000rpm with far less tunning issues, general rule is youll need a 240 duration cam at .050 lift or larger and matching 10.5 or greater cpr and a minimum of 3.73 rear gears, with 4.56:1 -4.88:1 being a better match things to read http://victorylibrary.com/mopar/intake-tech-c.htm http://www.newcovenant.com/speedcrafter/calculators/intake.htm http://www.grapeaperacing.com/tech/inductionsystems.pdf http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/carburetor_shootout/index.html

  18. yes I saw the feed backs great! but the prices are about 20% lower than most places so IM cautious, untill I talk to real customers vs who knows what is real on the internet, the guy might be a great deal, or a scam, and when spending $2000-$3500 it pays to be cautious
  19. has anyone ever dealt with this guy, I can,t find anyone who has yet?? price is great but it might be a scam? EBAY Item number: 270055297681 Item number: 270054600944 Item number: 270054602093
  20. simple rules for sellecting a N/A engine if its under 12.0:1 compression, ratio,, if its got less than 8 cylinders, if the heads flow less than 350cfm AND its under 475 cubic inches ITs probably not suitable!
  21. I caught a guy 20 years ago trying to steal my 1968 corvette, It was about 1 am, I handed my wife a double barrel 10 ga and I took my 10 ga and snuck out side AFTER calling the cops and getting a poloroid camera with a flash attachment , I walked up behind the car while he was working on the stearing collum, (first checking the area for any buddies) tapped on the roof and said, IN A LOUD VOICE, "I don,t think you should move very fast my wifes pointing a 10 ga at your head and so am I!!" the guy looks up., eyes bugged out! I said, just don,t move we already called the cops and we have your picture, if you move WE BOTH will assume your trying to attack and act accordingly....., my wife came out just enought so he could see her clearly, pointing that 10ga at his head, the cops showed up about 10 minutes later, by that time ID taken several pictures and had the guy throw his wallet out on the lawn. we took pictures of his ID and Id ty-wrapped his wrists to the stearing wheel. when the cops pulled up we both had put the shotguns away, since he was ty-wrapped to the stearing wheel, we had taken pictures of him and his ID,and Id explained to him I was a bail bond recovery agent (TRUE at the time)and that if anything unpleasant were to happen, to my wife or myself or my property, my business associates knew a whole bunch of people HE REALLY NEVER WANTED TO EVER IN HIS WORST NIGHTMARES WANT TO MEET!, who whould have his picture and a free pass on the next bail bond, for the first $50,000 no questions asked, if he were to be brought into our office a (LITTLE WORSE FOR THE EXPERIANCE), he took the HINT! and never returned. the cops took the guy away and I got a form letter thanking me for assisting in his arrest (he had a long record, we found out later) we also found out he asked some other bail bond guy we knew about us....he made something up, and told him we must have liked him,we usually just tie guys like him, brake thier legs up in several places and drop them off naked in the getto, (now why didn,t I think of that)
  22. having been heavily involved in a bunch of these swaps over the years ID seriously expect to spend a MINIMUM of $6000-$8000 PLUS on a well laid out and installed swap with a 400-450 hp sbc, AND MATCHING DRIVE TRAIN, that most guys use, PLUS the basic car cost, AND PAINT, INTERIOR,etc. but it can and frequently does run up some from there, but keep in mind, done correctly , youll have what looks like a new car,you can out run a new Z06 corvette that costs $70,000 and have less than $12,000-$20,000 in the whole car!!! CAN IT BE DONE FOR LESS< hell yes, BUT GREAT DEALS ON SALVAGE YARD SEATS, GAUGES, AND DRIVE TRAIN, ETC. CAN BE HARD TO FIND AT TIMES START WITH A GOOD DONOR LIKE A VETTE WRECK AND A CLEAN (z) AND PRICES CAN BE LOWER
  23. There's a post over on Stevesnovasite from a member saying that the 200cc aluminum SBC heads from Summit are Brodix IK200's. Looking at the parts and such, they are a dead match for the IK200's with the .575. lift valvetrain. They're available online from Summit for just under $900...which is about $150 less than the regular IK200's Summit lists. That is a downright steal if it's true! http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D162111&N=700+4294925232+4294838998+4294867081+400304+4294867079+115&autoview=sku http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=BRO%2D1021001&N=700+316186+115&autoview=sku notice the simularities Just thought it was somewhat interesting. I guess it's not really surprising since Jeg's has had Canfields as their heads for a while now. Comparing BRO-1021001 to SUM-162111, I found one difference: Outside Diameter of Outer Spring (in) Summit 1.430 in. Brodix 1.470 in Also, the Summit heads are using a standard intake valve with an ss exhaust instead of stainless in both holes
  24. just some info your looking to spend $6000-$8000 plus on an engine here, thats getting into BIG BLOCK territory now all im suggesting here is step back and think thru your options, while having a 500hp-600HP sbc may be a good idea,BUT ITS CLOSE TO MAX, having a 600hp-700HP plus big block for a similar OR SLIGHTLY HIGHER cost with alot MORE GROWTH POTENTIAL IN THE FUTURE HAS ITS GOOD POINTS http://www.greenwoodchevy.com/engine17.htm http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/120/products/689/ZZ502-Base-Kit-Fully-Assembled-GM-Performance-Parts-Crate-Engine.htm http://www.theengineshop.com/prods_pages/108000.htm http://www.theengineshop.com/prods_pages/108061.htm YOU DON,T NEED TO GET CRAZY EITHER read this below http://maliburacing.com/patrick_budd_article.htm
  25. Ten Reasons Men Prefer Guns Over Women 10. You can trade an old 44 for a new 22. 9. You can keep one gun at home and have another for when you're on the road. 8. If you admire a friend's gun and tell him so, he will probably let you try it out a few times. 7. Your primary gun doesn't mind if you keep another gun for a backup. 6. Your gun will stay with you even if you run out of ammo. 5. A gun doesn't take up a lot of closet space. 4. Guns function normally every day of the month. 3. A gun doesn't ask, "Do these new grips make me look fat?" 2. A gun doesn't mind if you go to sleep after you’re done with it. And the number one reason a gun is favored over a woman.... 1. YOU CAN BUY A SILENCER FOR A GUN!!
