The rocky Mountain bikes do look really nice, but I cannot find a dealer in my general area. I Want to take advantage of the free tune-ups and maintenance that the local stores offer So I will be concentrating on what I cant get new and locally. I will be checking out some Jamis bikes on monday but I think those might be slightly out of my price range, but they do look really nice. we shall see. I really need to stick to my budget and maybe go slightly under. If I can save some money I might skimp out on some upgradable components in order to purchase a second set of tires along with front and rear lights and a decent helmet. who really knows just how often I will get to really ride, I would hate to spend big money to not be able to ride. thanks for all the info, School starts again on the 18th so I will probably make my purchase then

Hey gang, I know that this isn't car related, but I do know that there are a few bicycle riders here. I have some options and some wants/needs in a low/midrange priced bike. I'm looking for disk brakes, alum frame, 24 speeds, hardtail, decent hardware, light weight, etc etc. Price range is around 500$, and here are some I've been looking at: Trek 4300: http://www2.trekbikes.com/Bikes/Mountain/Hardtail/Alpha_Aluminum/4300/index.php Marin Bobcat trail:http://www.marinbikes.com/bicycles_2005/html/bikes/bike_specs/specs_bobcat_trail.html Diamondback Response sport: http://www.diamondback.com/items.asp?deptid=14&itemid=134&va=0 Haro V4: http://www.harobikes.com/mtb/vseries-v4.php Giant Yukon http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/2004_hardtail/product_123424.shtml Raleigh M40DX http:// http://www.raleighusa.com/items.asp?deptid=11&itemid=207&va=0 Specialized Rockhopper '04 http://www.specialized.com/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=5969&JServSessionIdroot=uakjmamjln.j27004 does anybody have any experience with this type of bike or any of these bikes? Its a tough one as they all have a lot of the same features just with different hardware or combos of hardware. I supose in the end I really cant go wrong with any of the bikes listed above. Whadayall think?.

mine was a 69 four door running a 273V8 with the stock carter bbd two barrel carb. Duels on stock manifolds, shaved, slammed, with flames. I miss that car, but it just rode like shiat because it was sooo low, downtown streets are not fun in a car that low. I had plans to airbag it and notch the frame to get her lower but never got around to it. 12k invested, sold for 2k. ARGH!!!!!!

engine timing will have an effect on vacuum...... so if its not set to where it was that will give you those results. thats how I used to set the timing on my plymouth, hook up a vacuum gauge a turn the dizzy until until you get the highest vacuum level and then back it off a couple of degrees. Its not something that I would do on a performance engine, but a 69 valiant isnt exactly a performance car....it was a mix of whatever my grandfather could find while he had it, so no timing marks what so ever.

mike you might want to try and bleed the cooling system again, I know that the L6 is not as prone to bubbles as some V8s or other engines, but it can happen..... ps. Im leaving N.O. at around 6am hoping to make it up that way by 11-12ish depending on traffic.

BWAHAHA! that thing really IS ghetto fabulous. sweet. -
not at all! it does raise the seat up a tad, but because the seat has minimal padding (almost none) you basically sit WAY lower than stock anyway. I actually had some spacers on mine to get them up a tad bit higher.

checkin in from down south in San Antonio. Not to many hybridz members down this way, but hopefully the national convention in dallas will bring some more out of the wood work.

I used a sawzall when I cut up my '70 240Z. I also wanted to save the engine and some other misc parts so I stripped it as much as I could while it was on jack stands and just started cutting away, 1st cut was the roof- Lower A pillers and right at the hatch 2nd cut was the ass end- I cut the rear off about 12inches in. I then re positioned the jack stands and added some so that the car had support in four places in equal spacing. 3rd cut. I cut the car in two right at the shifter hole. being carefull to not cut the tranny or drivshaft (I also had a jack stand under the tranny) 4th cut. I started hacking the rear end into smaller junks. (all together the car went out into the street in 12 chunks) 5th cut-middle of the radiator support and then down through the front strut mounts. ( this free the front half of the car from the engine)(keep in mind the engine is supported by three jack stands and all the crossmemeber bolts have been removed) 6th cut-down the middle of the car through the remaining transtunnel and BAM! you have one engine and trans sitting on three jackstands and a car in little bits.

Hey no problem at all, just glad I could help.... A member of our z club has a set of R32 Skyline taillights installed in his 240Z. It's surprising just how natural they fit in the S30 chassis (unfortunately I do not have a picture of his car at this time.) Taillights in a S30 is a tough call. I do long for something a little more updated, but at the same time can't really visualize anything that looks as at home on the rear of my 240Z. It's possible that I cannot really "see" it because of the fact that the stock taillights just belong with the 240Z, so nothing will every look right. ?did that make any sense? anywho, hope your project gets underway and finished in a timely manner, next time I'm up your way you'll have to give me a ride. (same goes for everyone else out there) laterZ

zweet! It will be a great day when your z is finally running. The roads will curl up in fear, and all the police will stay home rocking back and forth clinging to the safety of their donuts. looking forward to seeing her run.

you'll be hard pressed sliding anywhere in or out of any fixed back FIA approved seat (I only have experiance with the sparcos though) if you've got your four-point properly mounted and fitted around your bod than you shouldnt have a problem. I really would stress sitting in any seat your thinking of buying. I know thats not always possible, but different body types need different kinds of support in order to be comfortable. If your not comfortable in your seat, you will never get the most out of your car.
-
I always like my sparco sprints. its the base model but its FIA approved and super comfy. I had them in my 240Z and its was my daily driver/weekend warrior. I also drove to houston many many times with those seats and never had on complaint. 5'11 here and plenty of room to spare.....

I need you guys to put on your thinking caps......Can this work??
Sparky replied to a topic in Other Engines
take a look at westfield cars and their megabusa 8. its a super 7 based car with a 'busa engine. RWD, six forward gears, six reverse gears. I used to work for the only importer in the states of westfield cars and can tell you they are amazing fun with the 'busa engine, but they weigh next to nothing. If you could get it cheap I would buy it just to have it, and maybe do an old Honda N600 conversion or build your own locost 7. as far as putting one in a z? no way, it might be fun for a little bit, but would wear thin on you very quickly. -
stang jackarse-"Dude, my nitrous bottle wasnt open! and if you post this on the board your in deep shiat!" truck guy-"ummm, why?"
-
The theme on my z is as if it were to be in production today. subtle body mods, leather and suede interior, power to spare, ready to romp on any backroad, and still get mid 20's in MPG.

broken contact in the combo switch.....all the internals are plastic and tend to get brittle and weak over time. things break off easily.

Way to change shocks w/o a spring compressor
Sparky replied to Miles's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Yeah, I know. But when you own a plasma cutter, everything needs to be cut! YES! I couldnt agree more. its fun to slice through metal in seconds, its just so unnatural! OH I've never used a spring compressor on my Z cars, I will jack up that car as far as it will go, disconnect the brake lines, sway bars, and stearing links, through a jack under the control are and load the spring, then slowly undo the top strut bolt, and slowly let the jack down, Ive always had the spring just plop out. Of course ive never had to put stock springs back in without a compressor as I was always doing coilovers. -S -
BUY THAT! wow thats an odd concept but it might just actually work, it almost looks like they were trying to make a ferrari 256SWB? (might not be the car im thinking of), either way I kinda like it, and it looks as though it might turn out have way decent with some work. hmmmm, it looks as though it was actually well thought out.

Sparky replied to a topic in Non Tech Board
Wow, your sister has some amazing talent thats for sure. If I wasnt poor I would buy it for sure, my dry walls sure could use some nice art. its too bad im sooooo single, and dont have a talented artist girlfriend to paint me things such as those....funny, I play guitar and love Zcars.... umm...... did I mention I live in texas? -
Hey Mike, I know it’s a hard decision, but in the end it will more than likely be the best course of action. Both of us have exchange nightmare girl stories, and its seems as though everybody on hybridz has had one or two in their lives. Pay close attention to what everyone has said.....not one person has said "I stayed with that crazy messed up chick and couldn’t be happier!" its almost always chalked up to mistake, or learning experience. I felt the same way about my ex, She was so incredibly beautiful, she was smart, very funny, and very convincing. All those times she told me that she "loved me", or "was the best thing to happen to her" or the every popular "it was my mistake and I’m sorry, I'm the one that has to live with it for the rest of my life" BLAH BLAH BLAH. This girl needed help, and I SOOO wanted to be there for her, but her deep psychological problems are no match for anybody but her. She is the only one that can say "what I’m doing is wrong" and then take the steps to make things right. With that said, I think I can state that 99.9% of the time there is nothing you can do, and nothing you can change. as much as it may hurt, (and for a long time I might add) its best to walk away and live your own life. You only get one chance at being young and having the chance to experience as much as you can, the last thing that anybody needs is emotional, or physical baggage. While I do enjoy the company of a true female companion (one that you are truly comfortable around, one that you know almost everything about, and one you can share meaningful moments with) I've come to accept the fact that in order to be successful in life and be truly happy and comfortable later on, I must "sacrifice" now, and play with cars, motorcycles, school, and the cute "close friends" girlies at my school. I think that I've already met my best match, but since we are both in school, and since we both want to travel and experience ourselves before committing, we have called it quits....it might be permanent, or we might cross paths in the future, but I’m not giving up on her, or my own life. its that kind of understanding in a relationship that makes it really enjoyable, unfortunately though, it took me a long time to find it, and many mistakes to recognize it (maybe even too many). soooo, I’m rambling now, I hope things are going well for you, and I hope that you stick to your guns, (don’t be tempted by the coochie!) and hurry up and bring that green Z out to H-town! I need a Zcar fix!!!!
