love the old Rabbits. are you going to but the euro grill and headlights on it? personally thats a must have mod...maybe a sliding ragtop too? the 928 wheels look sooo good on the old GTi's and Rabbits. sounds like a good project and it looks like you have a solid car to build on. what ever happened to ole blue? oh, and the local PNP has a turbo short block in decent shape..didnt know if you still needed one.

exactly, thats why I wont bother going back, I would rather drive the extra mile and go to advance auto than to get into with the guy again.

BAH! F' white castle burgers... Krystal burgers are far superior...

I hear you, but I've just never been a big fan of built in headrests. availability is also an issue that I've been struggling with. you see, we dont normally find to many last gen RX7s in the local junkyards, and if you do they typically want 300 dollars for a set of seats. well this one cost me 25$ and 175 to recover (i supply the materials.) my finances are a constant factor in my auto related decisions.

very nice, I really like the covers he made on the side of the engine compartmen under the access lids. very cool, I might just have to borrow his idea but make them out of CF instead. would love to see that car in person....clean clean clean.

Austin as always your doing some incredible work in a very short amount of time. Most impressed over here! the colour looks fantastic! are you going to put stock chrome bumpers back on? are you going to black out the trim around the windows?

Who wants VOLK knock off wheels?
Sparky replied to auxilary's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
hmmm, this might be an option for me, cant say for sure that I would be in a group buy, but its a possibility! -
Well Mike, I've got my FSM and chiltons out, ear marked and ready to go but I know that they wont have the part in stock, So I would have to wait and order it and personally, I will never give NAPA money as long as I can help it. Advance auto can get them in 3 days..so i will just do that. plus, you know those kind of people are never wrong no matter what. you can show them all the documentation in the world that states they are flat out wrong and they will find some way to twist things around and try to make people feel inferior to them. its not really worth my time (but man its tempting!!!)

LMAO, Ya know, I didnt even think of that. haha...

well crapin hell.... oldnapadude: can I help you? sparky: I need a throttle body gasket for a 83 280ZX oldnapadude: those cars didnt have a throttle body. sparky: (confused look) umm, yes they di.. oldnapadude:..NO, they did not.. sparky: well, you have the intake manifold, right? oldnapadude: right.. sparky: and then you have the throttle body that bolt on to that.. oldnapadude: those cars were multi port FI. (ok, he knows that much) sparky: right.. oldnapadude: so they didnt have a throttle body, they had a air flow meter. Sparky: -sigh- yes..and a throttle body, you know, the thing with the little butterfly in it (said with extreme sarcasm) oldnapadude: yes, the AFM. sparky: umm, no.. oldnapadude: I WAS A NISSAN TECH FOR 12 YEARS, they dont have a throttle body... Sparky: And Ive been building them for 7, they AFM "METERs" the incoming air, the throttle body controls the amount of air that goes into the engine. oldnapadude: No, the AFM does all that.. Sparky: fine, this is why I dont shop here, and why I never will again. thanks for your time. -So wth? Im not wrong, and hes partially right...should I go back in with the FSM or haynes and show him he's a moron? im very tempted. BAH! I hate autoparts stores, but I also dislike waiting for parts to come in through the mail.....dilemma

why not a early or late Miata engine (B6ZE-BP05 ) long production run, multiple platform, after-market support, parts interchangeability. what about the possibility of USDM SR20dE converted to RWD? Ford ecotek? There was a member on this site selling new crate engines for 600$ there is also a decent sized after-market support base for those engines. there are just SO many choices... BMW M42? DOHC inline four ,super common, fairly cheap, very reliable. hmmmm, moto engine sounds really cool...opelabusa?

Yeah, I hear you on the "plumpness" issue, I feel it has alot to do with the interior volume of the early Zcar. Its amazing to me that it has much more room than the MX6...but I guess that can be attributed to the fact that the Z is a Hatchback. I took a quick glance at the corvette seats and just wasnt feeling it, I may have to take another look in the next week before I take the seat to my upholsterer. one thing that I do like is the fact that installing four point harnesses is a breeze with this seat, and it sits so nicely in the car so that I can look around while driving and not have to look over or around a really tall seat. This though is from what I remember about driving a Z as I have not driven an early Z car in almost two years you'll have to update me on your Rabbit project Mike, My current GF sold her cabrio and bug some time ago and has recently got the urge to buy a first gen GTi in perfect-modded condition! we've been looking but havent found anything we feel is worthy of our time, and her money. let me know if you find any good parts sources for the first gens. I seem to remember having a VW golf/Rabbit catalog from some company in NC many years ago. It was full of every part you could imagine! they also did alot of 911/944 stuff as well..damn, wish I could remember the name of the company...

So for the longest time I've been searching the yards and car lots for seats that I feel fit the proportions and lines of the early Z interior and exterior. I have seen a multitude of different seats installed in early Zs but very few truly "fit" in the Z car. the Miata seats are nice, but I wanted something different...what I found in my search were the sport seats from a last generation Mazda MX-6. they come in both full power and manual adjustment models and I can assure everyone here that the full power seats will not fit without complete removal of the seat mount cross braces! even with the manual version it will require extensive modification to the seat rails to get it to install properly( like it really matters as most everything is modded to fit..just thought I would let yall know) I looked into adapting the stock adjusters but cam up short as the seat sit WAY to high in the car leaving little room for people over 5'5" with that in mind I've started work on fabricating new seat mounts that will used the stock Z sliders letting seat rest in the position shown in the pictures below. What does every think? any opinions? am I way off with my feeling that these seats "fit" the car? keep in mind that the seat will be recovered in the next few weeks with black leather in the bolsters and black suede in the center section. double stitching in colour matched thread will be place in the perimeter of the seat. The Sparco seat will most likely stay as the car will see autoXs, multiple track days, and general "spirited" driving. also attached are the pictures of my PC680 install...opinions are always appreciated and welcomed! generally shes coming along! I expect to have her on the road very very soon! check my gallery for more updates and additional pictures!
