  1. Seriously who loads a $450K car onto a trailer like that? Just goes to show you that money can't buy brains. - Greg -
  2. I believe the main reason is emissions. The 74 flat tops were the last carb'd L series motors until the switch to EFI in 75. - Greg -
  3. Good rule of thumb is most non-running cars are worth less than $1000. The only thing that would sway that (for me anyway) is if there were a lot of aftermarket parts included. It doesnt sound like there are for this car. I'd say that price is ridiculously high. No reason not to at least look at it, though. - Greg -
  4. From what Ive heard, MTL is a bit thin. Id go with Redline Heavy Shockproof. - Greg -
  5. You know what they say about the size of a man's shoes...
  6. Awesome garage, Clifton -- when is the lift going in? - Greg -
  7. If youre gonna paint it, take a look at www.swaintech.com. Their White Lightning coating has a proven performance benefit. It's not particularly pretty, though -- I would use a heat shield if you want to make it look nice. - Greg -
  8. When I cut the sleeves on mine I soon figured out if you make two cuts ~1/2" apart you can pop a small channel out of the sleeve. Then a couple taps on the remainder allows the sleeve to flex inward into the channel. The entire sleeve pops out very easily. Some torch action helps a lot, too. On the first sleeve I used opposing cuts like you did and found it much more difficult. I tried to find a picture I took of this but failed! - Greg -
  9. It looks fantastic in the pictures, but still needs a thorough rust check, mainly the floorpans and frame rails. The dash looks immaculate -- Im jealous! The only real downsides I see are that it is a 280Z (least valuable S30) and that it is an autotragic. Really it all boils down to your goals for the car. If you want a 100% stock S30 you may be hard pressed to find something better. I imagine they are looking to get around $5000 for the car. - Greg -
  10. Other than the usual spare change, I found a little toy car, pretty much the same color and shape as the Z I found it in. I cant wait to hear DemonZ's story about finding human remains in his car. - Greg -
  11. What a koinkidink - that's my car's name! - Greg -
  12. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=120893&highlight=maxima+bracket+part+number Typically you won't get many responses when the information is readily available already. - Greg -
  13. The exterior looks good but the interior looks like there could be some nasty floorpan rustage. I love the passenger side window crank! Definitely go over it with a fine tooth comb for hidden rust before making an offer. You can cover up a mess with paint. - Greg -
  14. I have an ABC in my garage that I used to carry in my car. It's basically right off the kitchen (most likely source for a small home fire). Once the Z is drivable I will add a mount for a new extinguisher. I have another extinguisher upstairs in the house just in case a fire starts downstairs while we are upstairs in bed. Once I get into welding I will probably add an extinguisher onto my welding cart so it moves with me You can never have too many fire extinguishers! - Greg -
  15. Ah - that was helpful Having personally disassembled several FWD SR trannies, I can say they use brass baulk rings on their synchros. Not 100% sure of the same for RB20 transmissions, but I dont think it is a stretch to assume so. Based on the GL-4 spec I think youre a gambling man if you put Mobil 1 gear oil in a RB20 transmission. - Greg -
  16. A lot of people have reported holding over 300 ft-lb with the ACT HDSS. I personally never got mine to pull that off. I had issues with it slipping under hard use and "sluggishness" like you are experiencing. I assumed it was just poor break-in, but I think the limiting factor is the disc. I ended up upgrading to the JWT 1-side metal disc. It grabbed hard and had no issues holding 300 ft-lb. - Greg -
  17. Youre missing the point. It's not the weight, it's the GL rating. The synchros are not rated for Mobil 1 GL-5 gear oil. Use a proper GL-4 rated oil like Redline Heavy Shockproof or Royal Purple MaxGear. - Greg -
  18. I'd be very careful with that. Make sure the RB20 tranny does not require GL-4, meaning Mobil 1 will toast your synchros because it is GL-5. - Greg -
  19. Throwout Bearing. Most aftermarket clutches use poor quality TOB's. It's best to use an OEM TOB if possible. If your car feels off, I'd definitely start with a simple tuneup, primarily the ignition system. The clutch could be slipping too. Does it start slipping badly if you get it really hot (several hard launches, a lot of shifting, racing, etc.)? I had very good luck with the JWT 1-side metal disc. You can reuse your pressure plate and replace the TOB and clutch disc. - Greg -
  20. What was in the police report? Did you get cited? Did you admit fault? - Greg -
  21. You know the shitty part.. they just added that damn word to the Webster's or something.. just goes to show if enough people use a word and know what it means, even if it's completely stupid and irrational, it becomes an official "word". Here's another one - I love it when people say "I need to dethaw that ". I always say "Okay let's freeze it!". - Greg -
  22. Just thought it was odd that someone without insurance would openly post their license plate number on the internet... - Greg -
