  1. Tape a 20 dollar bill over any bad spot. If they say anything, you can reply "Hey, a 20 should cover it" with a straight face. - Joe
  2. Check with the local police and see if they need a permit to solicit in your area. Put a sign in the door that says TRESPASSERS WIIL BE PROSICUTED. When you answer the door, smile and ask them to wait while you call the police. Call the police and have them arrested for soliciting without a permit and trespassing. Once word gets out that people are getting arrested in your area, they'll quit. OR, Get some whip cream in your mouth before you open the door, as they start their spiel, start spraying it out (be sure to get some on them) and roll around on the floor as if in some kind of fit. The whip cream should make it more convincing. That might scare them off, if not you can have fun and do it to next caller. OR, just smile real big and pee on their shoes. - Joe
  3. You can find all kinds of stuff in the flea market area, lot of tool vendors, Eastwood usually has a booth as does Maguires. Lots of interesting cars to see, some good, some not so good. This year it looked as though it was a MG show, MG parts all over the place. You never know what you'll find. I did see a few z parts, but who knows for '05.
  4. When I put my coilovers on I tack welded a little bump on the shoulder then filed a small notch in the sleeve to keep it from turning. I then put a small piece of duct tape on the strut which was enough to wedge the sleeve tight. I can crank the coilovers up or down with no problem of the sleeve slipping. Now, if I can just get the rest of project done I can test the setup on the road . - Joe
  5. I'll get down to see that garage yet !!!!!!! Hmmm maybe I'll wait until I can pick through the trash pile ........, nah the beer and company is to good to wait until then. Glad to hear things are coming along. - Joe
  6. Could be the ignition switch, or the ground. Clean the battery terminals and check the ground, then test the switch. - Joe
  7. Sorry to see you got hit. Glad to see nobody was hurt and that the damage is minor. - Joe
  8. I posted a few of the Carlisle shows on the calendar. The Import-Kit/Replicar is the one not to miss, but then the others are good also. I figured now everybody can plan on getting to the Import-Kit/Replicar show and HybridZ can win the Best Attendance Award. Hope you have your hats and shirts ..... -Joe
  9. Here's a link to give you all the info you need. http://www.zcarcreations.com/howto/maxifuse.htm - Joe
  10. I think a sign like this would do the trick My pet snake likes to sleep under the seats, please don't bother him Dangerous Animal Transport License # 1392 Expires 10/2007 - Joe
  11. I fixed the link, something must have happened to it from the upgrade. - Joe
  12. Site has seemed slow for a few days, I got kicked off with a critical database error today. Sorry didn't write down the error. Hope that helps. - Joe
  13. On Monster Garage they used the chain hookup to hook two V8s together to turn a WW II jeep into a tractor pull monster. Typical Monster Garage, but interesting. - Joe
  14. This car belongs to my cousin and would be in my garage, but I can't sneak another car past my wife and I promised her I wouldn't get another car until I get her the Mercedes she wants. I tried to explain that a 71 240Z is better than a new Mercedes and how it would appreciate in value instead on depreciate, but still no go. He has it listed at $500 starting. THE DASH HAS NO CRACKS !!!!!!!!! Heck, that's worth a few hundred right there. It has surface rust, but it will clean up well. It needs a salve cylinder and the passenger window is out, it was removed to lubricate the regulator and never got put back. Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4510582672&category=6187&sspagename=WDVW It deserves a good home since I can't give it one. Somebody will get a good deal, I just hope it's somebody from HybridZ. - Joe
  15. Hey, Watch it. She can change a tire in under 15 seconds without a jack or impact wrench. - Joe
  16. Gee, I wonder if she'll claim temporary insanity, if she does I believe it can be cured with a bullet to the brain. Oh wait, I made the assumption she had a brain. Sorry. - Joe
  17. Mike, You're making another great point. Planning is critical, it can help you avoid the dreaded "While I'm here" syndrome. That's one of the best things about HybridZ, you can learn from other peoples mistakes and experiences. It really helps with the planning. As a case in point, I was setting my battery box in the rear hatch area on the passenger side. My friend (who is a safety expert) pointed out that it was next to the fill neck and vent tank. With all the hoses that tie the Z fuel system together he didn't consider it a safe place to put the battery. It may seem a little nit-picky, but he's right. I'm now putting the battery behind the passenger seat, a much safer spot. Check your plans with others, they may see things you don't. Oh, he's also a Master Mechanic, great friend to have on a project like this, well actually a great friend to have period. - Joe
  18. Definitely get the gas setup. You need gas to weld thinner metal, like body panels. Thicker metals use the flux core. - Joe
  19. Undo it at the "T" then go to your local Pep Boys and get a pre-made length close the the length you need, then by a tubing bender and bend it to shape. You can get a pre-made section and if it's too long you'll only have to flare one end. Remember to get the double flare NOT the bubble flare, and if you have to flare it yourself be sure to use a double flare tool. - Joe
  20. I got my Lincoln MIG at Lowes. They have a Lincoln Pro 135 with the gas setup for $457. I'm very pleased with the welder. I went to a local welding supply shop bought a tank and had them fill it the co2/argon mix. I recently bought the Harbor Freight auto dimming welding mask for $60 on sale (I think it's on sale again till the 26th) I'm pleased with it also. It made it a lot easier to weld up the drip rails. Wish I'd gotten one earlier. Hope that helps. - Joe
  21. BIG ground wire from engine to frame, BIG ground wire from battery to frame. Make to the there's enough wire to allow for flex due to engine torque in the engine to frame wire. I have a braided strap from the engine to the frame, and smaller braided straps from the engine mounts to the frame. Can't have too much engine to frame ground. - Joe
  22. I agree, always grease them before use (I put some silicon spray on them before use). Keep an eye out at Sears, they go on sale for 1/2 price every now and then. I've been quite happy with mine. - Joe
  23. After removing a set of springs without a compressor my advice is GET A SET OF SPRING COMPRESSORS. I got a set from Sears when they had a sale. I've looked at the ones from Harbor Freight, but they were a lot lighter then ones I've used in the past, so I went with the ones at Sears. They work well and are a lot cheaper then repairing the damage from a spring flying across the room or worse yet the hospital bills from catching the spring with a body part. I've used them a number of times and would never attempt to remove/replace a spring without them. Simple and safe, what more could you ask for. - Joe
  24. The Enfield and the SKS are both fun. Get the Enfield now (another good reason for a reloader) and get the SKS later. A real great find are the Swedish Mausers in 6.5 X 55 Swede. You can find them in great condition and they are fun to shoot, very accurate and a good hunting/plinking rifle. Everybody who's tried one of mine went out and bought one. Easy to shoot and nice tight groups. Lots of fun when you pull out an "old Swedish rifle" and out shoot the 300 WinMag fellow. Be sure to follow up with "Gee, I need to stop using factory ammo and load my own, that's the worst group I shot with this old piece". It leaves them mumbling for weeks. - Joe
