WOW that was fast plainswolf !!!!! I thought about my first post for over a day. I hate getting into these discussions. As a hunter I found the video disconcerting, but I understand why the hunt is allowed and felt that needed to be pointed out. Just because somebody can afford to hunt a Lion, doesn't mean they should be allowed. I blame the PH (guide) for poor judgment. - Joe

Ok, I won't address the hunting questions.... Can somebody explain the purpose of football ???? Guys banging heads and giving high fives when somebody gets carried off the field ??????? How about boxing ?????? I know hunters I have great respect for, and I've known some that deserve no respect at all. You can apply these arguments to anything you want as was well pointed out above. Hunting is a necessary function of conservation. In Pennsylvania we now have more deer than ever recorded. All the fees from hunting licenses and excise taxes go to conversation (both state and national). If I shoot a wild dog pack that is attacking a herd of cows am I now a bad guy ??? If I clear out the ground hogs on a horse farm (the horses can break a leg in the holes) am I a bad guy????? We all agree that the video showed a less than admirable hunt, but if you're going to condemn hunting please include football, boxing and a few other sports. I'm pretty sure that Mike Tyson is the only boxer who attempted to eat his opponent. Bottom line: If you don't like hunting, fine, just just remember that all hunters are not morons and hunting is integral with conservation. As far as lions, discuss the issue with the governments of the countries that allow it. Right now it's legal. - Joe

I think you can just put vacuum to both lines. From what I can tell the D solenoid sends vacuum from the dashpot if there's enough, otherwise it pulls from the vacuum bottle. I haven't gotten to that point with my LT1, but I've been thinking about it. Let us know how you make out. - Joe

Theres a few things you should keep in mind about hunting a lion, there are only three ways a lion can be taken: 1- If it is a danger to local people 2- as part of a sanctioned hunt 3- poaching The governments of the countries that allow hunting of dangerous game depend on the income generated by the hunt and by tourism (photo safaris). The hunts are VARY expensive and EXTREMELY limited. They will remove animals that have become a danger by a sanctioned hunt whenever possible. These animals are the main source of income for these countries, you better believe they are very concerned about the lion population - no lions, no tourists, no money. The folks who took that lion will bring it home as a trophy. The meat will probably go to locals and guides as a courtesy. Now poaching is a different matter. Poachers kill the animal and take only portions that will sell and be carried off. They'll kill an elephant for it's tusks and leave the rest to rot. They kill as many as they can with no regard for conservation. If you look at the video you can see how close the lion came to taking the one guy out, that's why it's called dangerous game. He was very lucky. If you've had that close a call you'll high five anything in a five mile radius in an attempt to keep from soiling yourself. Now poachers, there's something I could hunt. I wonder if there's a limit ???? Sorry for the rant, but most folks don't know that these countries depend of these hunts for income. That's how they pay the patrols that go after poachers. - Joe

I suspect the flash/bang was used in desperation as an attempt to blow the engine. It's so wild that it boggles the mind. From the looks of that thing he could have bult a few, sold them to the goverment for Iraq then just buy the whole town and change the zoning laws. - Joe

"How To Restore Your Datsun Z-Car" by Wick Humble. Published by Fisher Books. You should be able to find it at Borders or Barnes and Noble. Be sure to get the Haynes manual or the Helms manual. You never have too many manuals. - Joe

Wilwood Proportioning Valve
VRJoe replied to gramercyjam's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I had a thought about how to set the proportioning valve. What if you took some sand to a parking lot, spread it out then used it as a skid pad. You wouldn't have to be going fast to lock up the wheels due to the sand, and you'd leave tracks in the sand so you could tell which wheels locked up first. Sweep the sand and try again. Any opinions ??? It'll be a while before I get around to trying it, but it seems like an easy method. Of course you guys near the beach would have it easier than most of us. - Joe -
VIDEO CLIP OF CORZETTE IN A 12.47 at 112.4 PASS VS a 13.43
VRJoe replied to Corzette's topic in Non Tech Board
WOW I suspect you'll put the fear of Z in those guys. Just don't get out of the car and light up a smoke while waiting for them at the end of the track, they get really depressed when you do that . - Joe -
I have a set of widow drive motors form a 79(?) ZX if you want them. I was going to try them in the 280Z, but the regulators are just a little too diferent. I also pulled the regulators, so you can have the whole setup if you want. Just make me an offer. - Joe

Do a search , somebody posted about electeric cutouts a while ago. The problem with a bad seal is both noise and fumes. - Joe

You should check out ENCO, I've found their prices are pretty good. Here's a link http://www.use-enco.com/ They've got all kinds of quality tools. I have some cheap sets, so what I do is buy the top of line when I need to replace one, that way I slowly replace all the taps and dies. If you need some quick Sears Craftsman aren't too bad, also the more expensive ones at Home Depot aren't too bad either. - Joe

You got a good buy, have fun with it. - Joe

Makes you wonder what the kid was thinking. You've got to admit, that car handled pretty well !!!!. Heck of a couple recoveries. It's no surprise the cops were a little ticked. - Joe

It sounds like it's time to drill and re-tap the holes. It may be best to pull the head and send it off to a machine shop. Making sure the drill is dead center of the bolt can be quite a task. You could also try heating the remaining bolt portion red hot and then placing wax against it. I've read that the wax will run down the threads and free up the bolt. I haven't tried it yet, but I trust Popular Mechanics enough to try it next time I need it. What can you loose. Heat it up, try the wax and grab it with a big pipe wrench. Worst case is you still have to send it to the machine shop. Almost forgot, Sorry to hear your problems, I know how frustrating it can be. - Joe

spindle loaner broke my spindle pin,,help!!
VRJoe replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
PB-Blaster, Some heat and the puller tool worked for me. A friend of mine swears by PB-Blaster, after trying it I swear by it also (which is much easier then swearing at the part). - Joe -
I keep looking at these type of presses. Next time I need to press something in or out I'll buy one. I suspect that you'll find it's handy for a bunch of other jobs also. - Joe

Is sloting the holes really needed?
VRJoe replied to 72zcar's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I didn't slot the holes at first, but after mounting the motor and trans I decided to slot them to get some adjustment room. It made it easier to get things lined up. - Joe -
WOW, Looks great. Don't be suprised by the requests for info or requests to duplicate it for them. - Joe

Yes, The U-joints on the axle half shafts are replaceable. The driveshaft (they call it the Propeller Shaft in the Z manual) are not replaceable. - Joe

I've had to have bees removed a few times. Call an exterminator. If it's not done right you'll chase the bees into the garage, which is obviously not what you want. Take it from me, do yourself a favor and call a pro. - Joe

I've used True Oil by Casey that works very well. I've also used linseed oil on military rifles, comes out great, but you have to be careful because it heats as it dries and can set rags on fire from spontaneous combustion, so put the rags in a can OUTSIDE when done. - Joe
