ROTFL, I love the line about the plumber- How true can you get. - Joe

One of the reasons for difference in prices between stations is the deal they have with the oil company. I had a local Getty station close because Getty kept raising his price until he could not be competitive with the Getty station down the street. The oil companies have tried to kill the independent dealers, they want to own the station and rent it to somebody who'll sell the gas (hence the increase in mini-mart stations, no mechanic). There are a lot of reasons for price variance, but the local guy is the least likely to screw you, he wants to keep your business, the more he sells, the better his price. The price changes make them as crazy as it does us, just ask them sometime. - Joe

I'm not about to defend the oil companies, but the price at the pump doesn't drop until the cheaper oil is processed and sent to the pump. You're paying for the gas already made from the higher priced oil until the cheaper stuff gets on line. That's the main reason the price lags. It's an accounting principle called FIFO (First In, First Out). On a side note, how can we push for hydrogen, keep the oil for lubricants and run our engines on hydrogen. - Joe

Is there a federal/state law on ammo I can stockpile?
VRJoe replied to auxilary's topic in Non Tech Board
I'll second the re-loader. Get a good Lee or Dillon progressive. After all, they're not bullets until they're assembled. The tough part is you need to practice loading to get good at it. You'll have to load then shoot at least a few thousand rounds to at good at loading, at least that's what I tell my wife Oh I almost forgot, there's target loads, practice loads hunting loads, loads for different types of bullet heads, then we get into the different calibers, .45, .38,.9mm, 38Spl, 45-70, .223, .308, 30-06........... Good fun on those cold nights when you can't work on the Z and the indoor range is closed. One last thing, smoking is highly discouraged while loading - Joe -
I'll add another vote for the baggies and digital camera. I put everything in baggies and took a bunch of pictures. Should have taken more, but it's amazing how they've helped when things start to go back together, also helps with the old 'what's this leftover part for' and the 'which end goes up'. - Joe

VRJoe replied to OMONLA's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
First, if you do a search in the Chevy v8 forum you'll find tons of information about this question. The main issue between the two is the mounts. The LS1 is newer and uses a different style of mounts. It seems the the 95 LT1 is the most popular since it has the vented Optispark distributor. Both the LS1 and LT1 are fuel injected. Power level for both is tied to you wallet. Do a search and you find enough info to keep yourself busy for a week. - Joe -
LOL, I think I may have to make something like them just to give the local cops a good laugh. - Joe

Ooops, I meant to post about the picture, I got my copy about a week ago. As always, your car deserves to be in every issue someplace, it looks too good to leave out. Congrats on getting another picture published. Great magazine also. - Joe

Since I moved the battery to the back of the car I mounted the ECU on the firewall were the battery used to sit. - Joe

Sounds goofy, but I'll bet somebody put in new cables and just bought one that would fit. My '77 280Z had both black cables ( + and - ) and both had RED leads coming off the connector. I almost hooked them up backwards (car had no battery in it when I bought it) due to the red wire, but dropped the wrench and noticed I was hooking the Ground lead to the + battery terminal. Lucky time to drop a wrench. Needless to say the color codes will be correct when the LT1 is wired up soon. Of coures the RED + lead starts at the back and runs all the way to the starter ( I moved the battery to the back). Oh yea, back to your question, If the - goes to ground ingore the fact that's it's RED. Somebody just used the wrong color wire. If the + goes to the starter ignore that it's BLACK. Better yet, if you can, pull the wires and swap them so the color code is correct. - Joe

If you mess with the odometer and they find out, or even suspect, they'll void the warranty. Document all the problems, explain the intermittent problem and get them to check it while it's still under warranty. Be firm about it. See if you can figure out when the problems turns up, and put that in the documentation ( such as, "it acts up after driving on the highway for 1 hour at 70 MPH then getting stuck in stop and go traffic for 15 min. on a 92 degree day") They'll probably claim nothing is wrong, so explain that it is intermittent and ask them to test drive it and reproduce the situation you described in the documentation. Check the mileage when you drop it off, the again when you pick it up. If the mileage doesn't agree with your document ion go back in and ask for the service manager and ask him to explain how they could have tested for the problem without putting on the miles. Once you start this battle it should be covered under warranty since you brought the problem to them and they failed to reproduce the problem while it was under warranty. Go in and explain the the problem exists and you want it repaired while under warranty so that it doesn't turn into a major repair later. Go as far up the chain as needed. If the service manager is no help go up to the owner if necessary. Don't take "no" for an answer. Hope that helps, - Joe

WOW, is all I say. Looks geat. - Joe -
I can recommend Thermal Tech. I got my block huggers from them for my 94 LT1, and thy fit great. Good products, good folks - What more could we ask for. They can also custom coat other parts for you. Top notch. - Joe

All I can say is WOW, Thanks for the post John.

Just wanted to say thanks for your post. I printed it out (and taped it together) and it should be a great help. Having it color coded makes it so much easier to trace the wires and having the connectors documented also help. It looks like it took a while to do, so thanks for all the work. - Joe

It seems like common sense is blocked by the black robe in some cases. It might be a reaction to having a gavel. Seems to happen to politicians also, so maybe it has something to do with the air in government buildings. Hmmmmm .... maybe it's a conspiracy and the infamous THEM is putting something in the air at government offices that eliminates common sense. Sure would explain a whole lot, wouldn't it I've heard of two judges in California who handed down a decision in direct violation of the law. When this was pointed out their response was they didn't care what the law said, it only mattered what THEY said. I know one was overturned on appeal and was supposedly reprimanded. Must be something in the water, if it's not the air. - Joe

Well, I suspect she claimed there was no agreement and that the child was the result of the affair. She had to take him to court for child support, it's not like the court just decided out of the blue. It goes back to two rules, 1- get it in writing, and 2- contracts deemed bad or immoral can not be enforced. I'll bet he called himself "sperm donor", she called him "lover". Pretty simple decision for the court. The fact they had a relationship puts a different slant on things. - Joe
