  1. Cool right down the street! admin can you move this to the events forum? bad Danny!
  2. Would i be interested? Yes. Do i think its this is really gonna go through? No. Lots of people talk about stuff they are going to do, but it seems like only 10% here on hybrid actually follow through with anything. Make a kit and then we will talk $.
  3. Are you sure those arent the same as 280zx struts? Looks the exact same.
  4. I need a few Nissan parts that are only available through dealers in Japan. Is there anyone here currently in Japan, have family, friends, etc?
  5. I found a bunch, not being ride but your spelling was wrong "mustache". http://forums.hybridz.org/search.php?searchid=61942 So many ill just paste the search results for "mustache" and "driveshaft".
  6. Wow that is beatiful! What are the headers and for what car?
  7. Everything really! This is groundbreaking to me! Ive ben searching for any info on this engine since i bought it about 2 years ago. Im ecstatic!
  8. Thanks for the reply zed240au! Any pics of the engine during the rebuild? Is there anyone in Japan? I know Corzette was there
  9. Wow zed240au, Do you happen to have any pictures? I would die to see it in action! Do you have any drag times or dyno run numbers? Ill do anything i can to get my hands on pics!
  10. I zip tie the spring ends 8 times to the spring perches. Call me overkill
  11. The distributor is on the front, installed in a huge front cover just like the timing cover on the L6's. I can take more pics, i am home today. Ive also discovered the b&s is the same as some mid 90's Subaru WRX's.
  12. Yes Terry i can supply a little bite of info 3988cc 92x75 b&s 195 hp 237 ft/lb 9.0:1 4bbl carb Im thinking a 10:1 or 11:1 compression ratio with head work would put me in the 300hp range.
  13. I went to a dump station in Anaheim. Im going to drive to a friends house to get all 4 corners weighed by a machine he brings to the track. I hope to reinforce the numbers i got today, maybe lower them. Then its on to the interior
  14. The 79 came in at 2,745 pounds with full stereo system. Everything A/C and Cruise control is removed along with all bumper hardware and replaced with the MSA #2 kit. Im shooting for 2,500 pounds finished. The entire interior is coming out sometime this month and getting sprayed with truck bed liner. Gerry Graham's white 280zx that was featured in Sport Z came in at 2,500 pounds with full stereo system.
  15. Can anyone recognize the domestic V8 the Nissan V8 is based on? Id love to know so i can start finding domestic parts for the build. This is a FRONT HALF automatic President bellhousing welded to the REAR HALF of a regular Datsun 4-5 speed. I can slip it on and off to any early Z-ZX trans i want. Heres the valve cover from the passenger side of the engine.
  16. Hey Dave, thats nice ! Alex and i were going to put some goldfish in your cowl hood when it was raining! jk
  17. Hey aussie and japanese guys! Im looking for information on the Nissan Y40 V8 engine from the Nissan President Limo. I believe it was an import to AUS, and i also believe parts are available from the Nissan dealers down there and up in Japan. I need as much info as you can collect as well as the following parts and prices for each, if you may 8cyl Distributor cap Factory manual? rod & crank bearings Piston rings and most importantly, GASKETS! (head(s), valve cover, oil pan, etc etc.) Nissan North American has NOTHING on this engine nor can they find any part listings. Your help is greatly appreiciated.
  18. An E88 head with f54 flat piston block would come in at 10:1. Thats premium gas right there. Whats the cheapest you can find? I know where $2.44 is, and thats the cheapest. 10:1 isnt a problem with premium at all. You can always retard the timing as well. 19. Howdy, Thanks for the replies guys. The idea i have is to replace the stock spring with a very thick and strong spring, hard enough you cant push down by hand, kind of like the valve spring itself. I didnt mention ive opened the oil passages to the next size drill bit i could find. Im hoping to get into the turbo automatic oil pump i have and see how i can increase pressure to the adjusters. Jmortenson, i understand what you are saying and i agree. My idea was to change the stock spring to actually give the oil pressure a little support to lower the amount of bleed at high rpm. It will be a few weeks to a few months until i can try this out. A user at zcar.com suggest i call a camshaft specialist and talk about a hydraulic grind. Thats a good idea!
  20. Ive posted this over on zcar.com, but we all know the chances are greater for debate over here. Ive finished by teardown and evaluation of the P90a head with hydraulic valve adjusters. This took me a total of 2 years. I am 100% positive that a non-stock spec camshaft CAN be used in the p90a. Ive completely disassembled each hydraulic valve adjuster. Each adjuster contains 1 casing/cylinder, 1 cap that holds everything inside, 1 plunger, 1 pressure release valve, and 1 small spring. Ive honed the inside of each casing and i am now ready to put them all back together. Thus, my concern. I am looking for a spring made of metal that will withstand high temperatures, OIL, and repetitive compression. The spring is about 1" long, and 1/8" in diameter, so its not very big at all. I am positive after my research, that a non-stock camshaft can be run in the P90a head if these springs are replaced with a much stiffer set. Machine shops and industrial supply shops are of no help. Who woulda thought? Im glad i did my research and my build, it puts years and years of debate on the P90a hydraulic head to rest. Some of you may remember me doing this in the past. Search "hydraulic" and "P90a" for more info!
  21. Say hell no! Any respectable shop that is worthy of doing business like they described they were looking to do, has an email other than Yahoo, like parts@racecar.com. Its BS, walk away!
  22. I have no idea how my location was switched Anyway, davidu from zcar.com is sourcing some soft parts ie head gaskets and what not. He says the y40 engine came in some trucks and limos and parts are available from Nissan Australia...also thanks to Tony D! Ill see how much $ they are and how much shipping is going to be. Im certain ill get this thing built. I guess i can post some pics tommorow if you guys wanna see the setup.
  23. Hello all. Im starting to source parts and take stuff apart. I know its been a long time since i picked up the engine. Im going to be examining parts and comparing with domestic market after market parts. Maybe ill be able to rebuild the engine with high compression pistons, rods, and get some headwork done. Ill try to bring more info as i get into this engine.
  24. The drag strip is in Palmdale about 2-3,000 feet above sea level. Those are normal times for this cars. Too bad they focused on mods that didnt make a damn bit a difference from stock. I ran at Palmdale 3 years ago in my completely gutted 280zx with flat top piston n42 head engine, with the best run being a crappy high 18. The next weekend later after being parked all week, the car ran a mid 15 at Carlsbad which is almost literally sea level. I cant believe major drag racing venues hold events at Palmdale.
