  1. I did some research & NONE of the Apexi SAFC's are useable on a ZX, due to the old school mafs. It would be possible with a Z31 harness & mafs though...

Don't get me wrong, a VLSD is WAY better than having no LSD, but most people find a clutch type to be more predictable. That being said, I wouldn't turn down a free one, but there are other options out there. Here's one I found recently, not a bad price either.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200089159349&rd=1,1

I DON'T like using a VLSD myself...I used to have an R32 GTS-T rear diff with 4.36 gears in my 180SX back in Okinawa. When I finally got to where I was putting down some real power, the VLSD was (IMHO) not safe to push hard & didn't hook up for crap. I upgraded to a Cusco 2-way & haven't regretted it yet! I switched when I was making ~390 rwhp & finally got it up to 522 rwhp after some extensive mods (Full-Race GT3567R hybrid)...the difference was night & day with the 2-way. I'd go for a mechanical clutch type over a viscous anyday...

What I'm saying is its the same type R200 as a 240SX (S13) and is a direct swap into those, so you'd have to do the same things to it as you would to use a S13 R200 in a Z. Hope that helps!
  5. Get some 740's instead of 550's...same price, not any harder to tune for & will support more if you decide to crank it up. 550's are actually kind of small for a T3/4
  6. Don't worry, I don't have any money! I will try to get with the owner after I finish work today & try to get to see it this weekend, if I can.

If it's from a manual equipped car it has a 4.36 VLSD, swappable to the S13 240SX & either has the (small 6-bolt) triangular shaped output flanges or the round shaped (larger 5-bolt) output flanges...the auto equipped came with a 4.11 VLSD. Yes, both are short nose R200.
  8. Are they? They look similar, but we don't know for certain that they in fact are S30 flares...They make S13 ZG style flares that are not sized to fit an S30 now too...Those style fender flares are available for many different model cars other than the S30 there & are a popular mod on older sportscars in Japan. (I know that when I lived in Japan, there was a LOT of stuff that was available there we never get a chance to see in the US!). I guess that's what a lot of us want to know...do the S30 ZG flares we can get from places like MSA fit on a ZX, without hacking them up to hell... Here's a link to S13 ZG style flares: http://www.pdm-racing.com/features/240sx4.html Also available from raceonusa (in CF) http://www.raceonusa.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3777&HS=1
  9. Here's a decent link to a guy who did the same thing...would be best to have a complete donor car, but not necessary. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=113547&highlight=turbo+swap
  10. Sorry to bump up a bit of an old thread...but 280ZForce, there's no pics or info posted in your reply...could you re-post them? Has anyone sucessfully done this using S30 ZG flares on a '79-83 280ZX here in the US? We all know they fit on pre-'79 S30 models, so I don't know why people kept posting pics of those in response to this? I don't know if that Japanese one was using S30 flares or ones designed for the S130...it looks good & I'd like to emulate it. It seems like I'm not the only one...Anybody? Bueller?
  11. The SR FWD/AWD tranny & components are known for their fragile nature. I had a few buddies back in Okinawa who grenaded several trannies...there's really no remedy for this other than keeping it stock & not pushing them too hard, unfortunately.
  12. It's got an old (Ford?) inline-6 that some guys think is an L-series...can't really tell although it does look a bit like an L Ford made it's own inline sixes up until ~'95
  13. T5's are NOT rare in the least. They were also put in Mustang GTs from '84-95, Camaro/Firebirds with 305 V8s from 82-91 & other applications as well. I paid $400 to have my T-5 completely rebuilt. Whomever told you otherwise is either incompetent or lying. They are not a difficult tranny to rebuild. You may be able to use better transmissions option from the Mustang aftermarket, like the Tremec.
  14. Stony is on another forum I spend a lot of time on (http://www.zeroyon.com) & we have a lot of mutual friends from back in Okinawa. He mentioned this place several times, so I decided to check it out. I wound up buying an '82 slicktop ZX a week ago & have got the itch...
  15. Looks good! Those wheels are really starting to grow on me...I'm holding out for Konig Rewind 16x8's.
  16. Is it possible to swap in a short nose R200 from the 89+ 240SX's? I haven't seen anything as of yet...There was a guy back in Okinawa who sent his S30 up to mainland Japan to have an entire GTR rear subframe custom installed...he was running a built SR20DET with a T04Z...that sucker was awesome!
  17. Most of those Mustang wheels are between +18 - +24mm offset
  18. Disregard...I want a set of 16x8" Rewinds too!
  19. Those darn meddlesome kids!
  20. My vote is for black powder coating. When applied correctly, will last longer & be more durable than the zinc plating. I've had a few zinc plated items rust within 2-3 years...
  21. For the people with deeper pockets who want something truly specific, this company makes custom wheels to your specifications. A tad pricey, but worth it for hard to find sizes. http://www.kodiakracingwheels.com/prices.html Please feel free to add other similar places to the list!
  22. I've run 245-50-16 on 16x7" wheels without issues. There is a bit of tire roll, 225's fit better & were more square/flush on the wheel.
  23. $900 for my '82 ZX. Solid body & great interior. Just needed a fuel pump & I drove it home. Paint's faded a bit (sun in Albuquerque) so I'm going to try to do the Home Depot Rustoleum/foam roller method...
