  1. this is something that my friend thought would be cool to make in my shop with the plasma cutter,he likes it...but i just dont know about it,or him.
  2. Like i said discuss-lol!!
  3. You should try to use inconel alloy in your design, same metal used alot for turbine wheels-basically super stainless that thrives on rediculous temps.I think the expansion of the material is minimal as well which would be helpfull in the area where you have to seal the shaft with a tightly machined inner and out diameters-in respect to what cygnusx1 said.
  4. As stated before; grounds are so often the problem, first thng to check.
  5. Good, that way when i do this it will still be as unusual as before this thread. Braap, those pics of that car have always been some of my favorites.Until now i never really toyed with the idea cuz i wasnt sure that i could handle being that cool...but now i'm:icon15::icon15:
  6. Good call,so i guess rather than saying my initial thought which was to agree that the existing engine is sweet and should not be replaced with detroit goodies:malebitch-i'll say take that bmw motor out and give it to me so that i can put it in my z that is looking for a new powerplant....sooo in a nutshell i once again have nothing important to say:bonk:
  7. Yeah that would be a heavy mofo but talk about burning tires. And for free its hard to go wrong, sounds like a fun project. P.S. what exactly is going on in you sig anyway. Is that like a wedding between nissan and toyota or something??
  8. Thanks, lincoln precision tig 225. Thanks again...I am doing this in my shop,i have a modestly equiped shop,no fancy machinery to speak of exept for my 195? south bend lathe that is crappy but helps on a lot of things.Yes everything is scratch built but not as easily as you think,i will post some pics of my shop and you will understand why i said earlier in the thread that i have 300 hours in so far..its all time and patience,My tig , plasma cutter and bend pak lift are basically my three most valuable items,Most everything else you could find in most automotive shops like mine.
  9. Yup...thats how i am,start something sweet and then hate it for about a year only to work on it again.Well my original axle design became a problem requiring me to reengineer which is why i was disgusted with the project so long. After coming up with a new idea for the gearing i decided to make entirely new axles aside from the original hubs and knuckle assembly. The problem with the old design was the fact that even thought the gear ratio was 16:1 worm drive, the gear driven by the worm was only about 3/8" in diameter so there was so little leverage at the wheels. My new design uses a gear about 2" and the difference is enormous...just turning the pinion shaft by hand i cannot hold the hub with my other hand well enough to keep it from spinning.Between the ratio and the diametral difference i'm thinking that it should put out about 20 times the torque as the old design.Your probably asking yourself "wow, this guy can build this thing yet he didnt think of that until he was done" well...thats a good question, anyways here is what ive got now,the old ones are being scrapped. Rebuildable worm drive third member: Brass hubs:use 10x24 stainless screws for studs.Note mini castle nut. I love my tig welder!!>stainless to mild steel=no prob. Rear of housing, pinion shaft and upper 4 link mounts: My homemade block and pin u-joints: Gearhead motor and future transfer case: Tires! Current state of the rest of the project:icon56:: Yeah i know i like my camera and keyboard too much hope you all approve!!
  10. Sounds to me like you have a car with one wheel drive, steering you one way under power and the other under decel..kind of like a paddle on one side of a canoe.
  11. WOW!!,i thought i was the only one to have ever done that exact same thing..Spent the rest of the night with my pecker in a glass of milk and my girlfriend laughing at me.
  12. Thanks....Yea that and all the crap that i know i still need in the future.
  13. Id have to agree with most of what has been posted. My friend has that same gun in a .40,he likes it quite a bit..however he likes my springfield xd-40 a lot more, for good reason. As far as accuracy i feel like im shooting a rifle with my xd.
  14. LOL exhaust tubing bent with a harbot freight bender and arc welded together,I wonder if a member here did that lol.
  15. OH boy, here we go...Well for the time being i'm afraid nothing will be happening for a while.I've had to face the facts about this hobby and realized just how bad my income to project cost ratio is.It may be on the shelf for now but i'm not getting rid of it.
  16. That is a sweet car!!!especially after you peel about 7 guages off the dash lol!
  17. Sadly untrue actually,it still continues as if unaffected by intelligent ridicule. Hondas may not be z's.But if you need a daily driver thats good on gas, somewhat peppy and needs to run for 400k they are pretty sweet. That car is rediculous and has to be a hoot.I remember in an issue of grassroots magazine where someguy built his budget racer by stuffing corvette everything into a crx, that was pretty sweet, and scary i would think.
  18. Please dont lol. Oops sorry.
  19. There are no excuses for that, and nothing will ever repair that cars dignity, soo sad!! if you ever want your car to be the automotive equivelant of a gay porn star...copy this work.
  20. Holy crap...this morning i didnt read after the first page.I thought it was just a clever joke but now i realize. And yes i did just join the forum so that i can take part lol.OMFG i am so scared of what this world is coming to..time to thin the herd i'd say.
