  1. http://www.supercarsensation.com/ Here's one option in NC, run by a fellow trackhead. jt
  2. Any possibility the shanks are bottoming out before they completely tighten up? They can bottom out on the unthreaded portion of the stud if there is one, against the hub, or the stud can bottom out inside the shank, either by length or depth of threads inside the nut. jt
  3. All the rockers don't get oil all the time. When you turn the crank two revolutions, the cam turns one, so that should show oil on all the rockers. It doesn't sound like you have a problem, just strong fingers! Crank her up and let it rip! jt
  4. Sometimes it's a real challenge matching up different threads. You can get Earl's or Russel lines from pitstopusa or summit, figuring out what you need is the deal. Verify what you've got on each end, then figure out what will work. I'll measure mine to see what length if that will help. jt
  5. The "rubber band effect" is normal. I've seen several engines do the same. Don't know about getting 40 psi turning the dist by hand. Are you doing it with just your fingers or do you have a speed handle on it? I would probably run the dist with the drill, and turn the motor slowly till I saw oil at all the rockers. Then I would call it good and try to crank it. What kind of break in lube are you using? That is absolutely necessary with a flat tappet cam and today's oil. jt
  6. I understand. I think you'll wind up with them reversed, and wondered if they came assembled from AZ. jt
  7. Very Nice. Dave makes some neat stuff. Aren't the front rotors bolted to the hats backwards? jt
  8. Thanks for the pic of the truck!!!!! It's a nice one, and the 911 and trailer aren't bad either. I got a little torqued up. HybridZ was formed because people on other forums were always knocking down mods to Z cars, and the spirit here has always been that what ever mods you want to do are OK. Blakt Out, I hope I get to see your Z sometime. It looks like it's a super nice build. jwheless, my apologies for sidetracking your thread. Let us know what you decide to do to your car. I'll help out if possible. John
  9. I use the Wilwood GT48 series. They cost more but last longer with track pads. Track pads can eat up the softer rotors pretty quick. I don't have any cooling ducts, and don't have any fading problems using the 12.2x1.25 GT48's, PF01 pads, and valvoline synthetic fluid. jt
  10. The external dimensions of a 307 are the same as any 1st gen sbc, so it's the same as swapping in a 327, 350, etc. All the jtr stuff works fine, and any info you find in the forum regarding 350's apply to your 307. Spend a good bit of time searching and reading in the gen 1 forum, and you can do it yourself. jt
  11. jwheless, the first thing to remember is that it's your car. You can do anything you want to with it, and if somebody else likes it or not, it's their problem and not yours. You are paying the bills and doing the work, and it's your show. Period. All by Blakt Out: WTF is an abonation?????? Blakd out, you've got a nice build going on your car. I like it. But you've installed a bunch of non original and non datsun parts. How can you criticize someone else just because their choice of non original parts is different from yours? Are you the only person who can choose the "proper" non original part from a different manufacturer? Since you are in pain and want to save the Datsuns, I know of a nice prospect for you. The redneck owner has installed a horrible frankenstein pushrod V8, and he takes it to racetracks and abuses it regularly. You can hear the poor car screaming for a savior as it is tortured on track by massive torque and lateral g's the chassis was never meant to endure. Think of the children. Please save this poor 240Z from a life of suffering and torture for a one time donation of $20K, and give it the love and adoration only you can provide. While you're calling people rednecks, please post a pic of your 4X4 3/4 ton diesel pickup with the 7" lift kit and the 37" tires. Just so we know where you're coming from. jt
  12. If you're talking about the Pee Dee show, it's outdoors and HUGE. As in, you can't see it all in one day. Usually the weather is cool but nice, say 60's. jt
  13. The DSP setup is the only one I'm aware of. I've got DSP brakes on my car and have been very pleased. Great people to do business with. jt
  14. Save up a while longer fro some aluminum heads. You'll be glad in the long run. jt
  15. If your strut is stamped "B", you need B spacers. This is the most common size, they're lots of them around. jt
  16. The shaking is a sign the pump is starving for fuel. I would check the filter, then the pickup if the filter looks OK. I've never had a problem with my stock tank and pickup. jt
  17. Bead blasting is very common. Lots of machine shops use it to clean pistons, heads, valves, etc., that have heavy carbon build up from high miles or oil consumption. It cleans the piston very well and smooths the surface. You only bead blast the top of the piston, never the ring land area or wrist pin area. Occasionally you might do the skirts, but that would be unusual. There might be some very slight benefits from reducing detontation by smoothing the surface, or holding oil better, or creating compressive stress in the surface. If so, they are very very small, not nearly as much as smoothing all the sharp edges on top of the piston, putting the proper hone on the cylinder walls, or choosing the right piston alloy. The main benefit is a quick, cheap method to clean up a piston or head you are reusing. It has no negative effects as long as you don't do the lands or wrist pin areas. Beading will change the clearance and surface finish of these areas, which is undesirable. If you check out the old tech 302 build thread, i had those pistons bead blasted. They look almost new. jt
  18. BARACU, that's beautiful. Interesting take on the throttle linkage. jt
  19. Here's mine back when it was nice and clean. It doesn't look that good now. jt
  20. Cool vid. The Lotus sounds wicked. Thanks. jt
  21. Most likely she and her husband will appreciate your friendship to a greater extent than anything you can make them. Stop by, say hello, chat for a minute, and stop back by again. They will value it far more than you will ever know. John
  22. That's a nice dyno run with that cam. I would think you've got a good bit of room for more. jt
  23. 1. Crystal ball 2. moon rover 3. Danica and the enhancements. Faith Hill starting the show off is always great. John
  24. Wow! That's a nice looking Z!!! I especially like the nice clean bottom side, and the spotless engine bay. Great job. John
  25. Looking good. Get her to 12.5 across the board and you'll go 360 or probably a little more. What are the cam specs? John
