  1. I dont take offenses on this board just advice thanks zya. This is going to be a max performance build for a turbo app for sure. I am hoping for more like 400rwhp with the possibility to get a little more after I completly upgrade the drivetrain and chassis. I want reliability I know of people getting 400 or more crank hp on a stocker block but I like to feel comfortable doing it. Im not planning on going way out of my way to do this but there appears to be some viable options that would not be a burden to add while having the motor built such as longer rods. I just bought a microtech engine management system for the fuel and will be using the msd btm for ignition control.
  2. Hey bast something else to rethink might be a good aic you can get the hks aic on ebay for around 200 bucks. I think its like 600 new but I see them on ebay all the time and they have alot of adjustability. Upgrading that stock turbo would be recommended and if your not looking for a huge turbo capable of 35+psi boost there are some less expensive options out there including upgrading using your turbo with the t4 conversion kit. I know there were a few guys on here running the 370's hopefully they will chime in here.
  3. Why not use the 320 grit paper then hit them with a buffer if its available. Woulnt the near mirror surface be a good thing. Just asking because I was thinking of this myself. I need to get a set race prepped anyway. Hopefully that should not be very expensive.
  4. Shipping for that would have to be truck and would probably be 3 times or more then that quoted price. Not worth it in my opinion
  5. I really like those flares on the car. I also like your new vent idea. I wish I could draw because I have about 20 different ones in my head I do still think the grill should be less square or a little wider or something. I really do like those skyline tails though. Fit the scheme nicely. What wheels are you going to go with. Those flares should allow some nice lip.
  6. Looks like you have the skyline lights installed nicely. My only gripe is the naked areas to each side of the grill. To me whale tales are a little much unless you have a really really wide body but thats just my .02 which is coming from an old guy that likes the ricer f1 wings. If it were mine I would make a larger grill area or have a duel exhaust like terry's exiting on both sides of the grill. Maybe round out the grill also its to square with an otherwise rounded rear end. Keep posting pics. I love body mods!!!
  7. 3sgte rods would be another good option. There is one set on ebay but I dont know where I could find another set cheaply. They are almost 138mm with a 1.899X rod journal size. They wouldn't be hbeams but they are forged from the factory and look plenty beefy. Maybe I should find an mr2 forum to join. Anyone have any helpful hints for finding a set of those cheap
  8. The LD28 and L20b may share the same deck height but the l20b uses 145.9 mm rods and the LD 28 uses 140mm However the LD28 uses a huge wrist pin when compared to most others (if trying to source stock pistons) The fj20 rods may provide a better selection of compatible pistons such as the vg30 pistons. Zrossa now that I think about it having the crank offset ground going down to a 1.771 rod journal from a 1.9670 is not really going to produce anything noticable other then a chance for error. I think you could have a custom crank made by crower or similar if you had really deep pockets to give you more stroke....Hmmm wouldnt that be tasty. If I can use the 1.771 honda rods I can have a forged h-beam rod and custom piston set for about a grand. Not to shabby.
  9. Zrossa I had though about this. I am looking into the cost of doing just that. Would be awesome to have a 3.1 without the 89 mm bore. I want to go 88mm max. I would really like to hear input of grinding down the rod journals to .1771 but I am no engineer so I dont want to make a statement of truth in that respect. Im hoping someone will chime in about that. Soon
  10. Thanks for all the comments guys the sound of the ld28 block is very good but I cannot find one. I know there are also modifications to the block that would have to be done etc. I have 2 f54 blocks. I do believe that with a little creativity that a very good rod and stroke can be created with the l28 block. I was told that honda rods were an option but this requires turning the rod journals down to .1771 but the journals on the l24 maxima were only 1.76?? So Im thinking this can be a safe endevour I may have a line on 8 h beam eagle rods with arp 2000 bolts for under 500 dollars so the price isnt bad for having forged H beam rods. Toyota 3sgte rods are also an option. These aren't going to create a 1.8 rod and stroke but this will im prove it greatly. Also giving more piston options. This has been a great thread that has helped with my research greatly. Hopefully there is still more info out there to be unturned.
  11. In looking at hybrid rods and pistons I was wondering how much could safely be cut from the ld28 crank. If this can be done there are alot of rod options out there forged and all. I wish I could find an ld28 block around here. Im lucky to find anything datsun at the wreckers much less and ld28 maxima. I wouldnt use those rods though they are way to heavy. Just the crank and block. I have two f54 blocks though so Im probably going to use one of these. Is zero decking the block a requirement. I read about this in my chevy rebuild book but its been awhile. I have the nissan rebuild book and the high performance book Id like to get my hands on the hot rod and race your datsun book if anyone has a copy reasonably.
  12. I doubt those motorcycle pistons are forged but they are probably lighter. Probably pretty hard to get a set though sounds interesting
  13. Tell us a little more about your fuel system. I have not heard of that setup before. 550cc's are big injectors. Ive been looking at some but it would be forever before I can use them so Im using the bosch 420 mercedes injectors. By the way you are not to far from me I live about an hour from cincinatti but may actually be taking a new job in sharonville.
  14. Well looks like I can get pretty close to that 1.8 with 140mm rods ld28 crank and some custom pistons. Anyone care to do the math to insure that my wrist pins wont be in the middle of the oil scraping ring. Of course the l24 crank is still an option or using the l28 crank with the 140mm rods I dont think it would rev as well but thats not my main goal Id be happy making power up to 6500 rpms 7000 is def pushing it and the higher you go the more it costs. Custom pistons seem to be fairly reasonable as long as I get them right the first time. Machining and balencing will definatly be the high dollar endevours. Id like to get some headwork done but I may get a spare p90 and go all out with it at a later date and just do a stock rebuild and a little home port and polish work. I wish I wasn't in ohio though Im very leary of sending my setup to be worked on by someone who has never built a high performance engine. Rebello racing is way out of my price range and I guess Im a little nervous about not getting the block torque plate bored. I think this will pay off nicely if its done right the first time though. Id rather draw it out a little and make sure it gets done right then just throwing something together in my back yard. If anyone knows of a reasonable place to have some of this work done let me know. I really don't want to ship the block out but if it means good work at a very good price it would be worth it. Im located near cincinatti ohio currently. Man Im getting excited I should apply for a new credit card and just do this all at once....hmmm guess not. Well Keep the cards and letter...err posts coming
  15. Speaking of kills no wonder its so easy to bring down the big game. I just read that the new viper only runs a 12.2 in the 1/4 with 500 stock hp. That time is quite obtainable and then some in a z.......Gonne be awhile before I go looking for one though lol
  16. Well I have a line of 4 fj20 rods need two more. I have to find out if all fj20 rods are the same Ive read that the fj20det are beefier those are what Im looking for. I do plan On going with 87.5 or 88mm pistons thats all the overbore for now. I really hope I can pull off the 140mm rods. The off boost torque and det. resistance make it worth the effort
  17. I love the goodguys show I was just at the ohio one. Took lots of pics with my 35mm cam. What kind of hot rod you have for sale bro? I want to do one one of these dys. I got two zcars that are hot rod enough for me. I want to do a roadster with a zx turbo in it one of these days. Cn you imagine going to a car show without a small block lol. I think it would be sweet especially if it was really built and could beat half the stuff there
  18. Well I believe I have read that 14psi is the max for stock injectors. I dont know this for sure though. Looks like you are getting into the relm of the 370cc injectors though. I may be selling a set soon if your interested. Im going with the 420cc mercedes ones. Sounds like that fmu is working nicely maybe I will have to get one
  19. I love that new lexus. I hate the stock wheels on it. THe one in the picture isnt to bad. Lots of room for engine upgrading and a nice looking ride. Way to kick some tail though!!!
  20. Do you think your contact may still have those fj20 rods. Im not having any luck finding any without going aftermarket. This is a limited budget build with enough allowence for custom pistons but trying to avoid custom rods. Do you have a source for the ati dampner?
  21. well I have not heard anything good about the autometer boost gauges only that the mech. ones are off. That puts me in a dilemma becuase I want a matching set of autometer gauges
  22. Ok If Im reading correctly I can use the 140mm rods with the ld28 crank as long as I get custom pistons. I was worried about not being able to move the pin height enough to do this. Im in search of the fj20det rods right now. The turbo fj rods are supposed to be stronger then then the non turbo ones. I may try to contact some of our aussie board members to see if they can get their hands on some for me. I looked into custom rods but thats going to be about 1100 dollars for pauter rods. I really want the 3.1 more then the destroker for the off boost torque. Keep the comments rolling in though. I thought that using the 140mm rods with vg30 pistons and 240 crank would only leave the piston 1mm down the bore. Maybe my calculations were wrong though.
  23. Ok guys Im getting ready to start making some decesions for my turbo buildup I have to get this off the ground soon. I have considered several options 3.0 stroker 2.6 destroker.... Some custom something or other stroker. Alright Ive heard that I could use the 2.4 crank 140mm fj20 rods and vg30det pistons Myth? I want to know if I can run the 140mm rods in an f54 block with my l28 crank or better yet the ld28 crank. I would think that the piston pin height could not be moved up enough to do the 3.1 stroker with the 140 mm rods but it would be awesome. Any words on this. I have everything but the fj20 rods and custom pistons of course. I have all 3 of the above cranks and a set of 133mm 240z rods. I really want to get 400rwhp and to move up from there. Any input would be hugely helpful. Thanks Jared
  24. Did you ever find anything out about using the sleeves. Im not too far from the place in ky a few hours. Im in Ohio. Ive been trying to plan an l28et build that ill be happy with but so far no dice. Trying not to spend a ton on the motor. Im trying to figure out how to use longer rods and not have to buy custom pistons I have heard fj20 rods and vg30 pistons may work with my l24 crank. See post below. Trying to get some more ideas that will work.
