  1. We are trying to hook up tonight so go ahead and send me his cell in case he does not get my PM. I have owned a 911 since '82. Strange cars for a "drag racer", eh? :D Thanks,
  2. Do you guys have access to email? I am having trouble sending PMs.
  3. Hopefully you mean 86 or 87 as there was no 88 GN. The price is a tad high but it depends on the condition and whether or not it has any performance parts added. Try to get more details and let me know.
  4. As a point of reference, the hole in my housing is 1 3/8". While making yours bigger would not hurt, I would not do it w/o taking some measurements first. While the difference in the diameters of the puck and the hole is .5", there is no guarantee you will have a perfect .25 overlap all the way around. You cannot count on bolting up the wastegate housing and having the puck perfectly centered over the hole. You might also have the slighest amount of movement of the shaft in the bushing. You can place some grease around the hole then bolt up the housing and see how the hole aligns on the puck. That will tell you if you can make the hole bigger using the same puck. If you decide to go with a larger puck, be very careful as you do not have much room for a larger one and you want to be certain the larger puck will not have interference problems and will sit flat on the turbine housing and seal the hole when it closes. While it is a PITA, I would go with it stock and see if you need it. If you do, then the hole will have left a mark on the puck for you to go by.
  5. I have not been keeping up with the progress being made with this swap. What are you guys doing for CVs and is 3.54 still the lowest numerical ratio available?

    GM Rear End?

MikeKZ gave you the correct answer. I would say you have a 1 in 1,000 chance of breaking the R200 with your setup but you could break u-joints. Go with an R200, the CV adaptor from Ross and a pair of 280ZXT CVs and you will be fine.
  7. That setup is plenty strong, BUT, remember that you are using 20+yr old used CV axles in unknown condition so it is really a crapshoot. "Rebuilts" are no better because the cages are made of inferior metal. So much of how long it lives depends on tires, how hard you launch and suspension setup especially to avoid wheel hop, IOW, no "road racing" suspension setup. FWIW, I used to cut low-1.60s, with a best of 1.55, on 275 DRs launching off a t-brake. I broke a drivers side CV and the guy at RAxles said that was unusual because it is the passenger side that usualy breaks You could probably work on a technique that launches not as hard then lay into it when the tires hook. Won't get you lightning quick 60' times but the parts will live. If you plan on slicks or ET Streets, etc, a t-brake and plenty of boost off the line, then get lots of spare CVs and stub axles or go a different route. Never ceases to amaze me that folks would never consider running the stock stuff behing a big block but forget that a honking low-RPM turbo motor has just as much torque. If the focus is auto-x and street with the occasional run down the strip, then develop the axle-saving launch technique and it will live. However, trust me on this. The 1st time you feel that yourself being shoved into the seat at 100+ going down the strip, you will be hooked and like the "Gov" said, "I'll be back". My Z was originally being set up for auto-x and drivers schools and look what happened :D BTW, good luck trying to auto-x that beast
  8. Harumph! I see a road trip in your future, March 14th to be exact :D
  9. http://z31.com/sezs/4 RSVP so we can get a running head count and send in a pic if you have a sweet ride or one that you think is quick.
  10. What better way to culminate this Southern-style group hug than to be part of the gathering at the next SEZ meet?
  11. The problem is not the strength of the R200 but the axles/CVs. The R230 will buy you nothing if you end up using the same axles/CVs.
  12. Both 240Z Turbo and I have done this. Low-cost but effective way to add rigidity.
  13. What the heck is that supposed to mean? Because you have an IRS you SHOULD NOT run it on the strip? Here we go again with the Supra and C2 examples of why IRS does not work on the strip. You do not see C2s in the 9s simply because NHRA's rulebook specifically bans them. This is the same NHRA that promotes Pro Stock as "The Factory Hot Rods" but restricts them to running carbs. What was the last factory car with carbs? You wanna get an earful about the "wisdom" of NHRA, sit down and have a chat with Warren Johnson about Pro Stocks having to run carbs. Ah, the 800hp Supras that can only run 10s. What the heck does that have to do with the fact that they have IRS? 800hp Supras run 10s because they are IDIOT SHEEP who follow the engine setups that make the most HP on the dyno and end up not getting full boost until the 330' marker! Would not matter if they had a trick solid axle. I find all this Supra talk so hilarious. One of our own members, BLKMGK, has focused what it takes to make a Supra launch hard off the line and if you have not seen the video of his Supra launching, you ought to. BTW, on the extreme side of the Supras, there are 1000+hp Supras running in the 8s with the IRS. To make generic statements like live axles are lousy for handling or IRS is no good for the strip or Zs are sports cars and should not be run on the strip......SILLY! Did I break my C4 IRS? Yes, I broke the spider gear shaft. My IRS is from an '84 and it turns out the 84 carriers had a factory defect that was recalled and redesigned and had no problem since. That part? The spider gear shaft My carrier was swapped out for an 87.
  14. Chris, I should be getting in around 4:30p to meet up with James and Chris (Big Geek).
  15. Bob (Publisher), how about SZM doing a big, multi-page spread on the next SEZ meet scheduled for March 14? Would also like to see each issue have a feature on some of the incredibly well-engineered hybrids. I think the world would be surprised at the some of the genius and incredible Z cars on this forum.
  16. It's been so long, I damn near forgot who you were :D
  17. Don't know what you consider "low cost", but by the time you finish freshening up that tranny and adding the "tricks", you would be beter off selling it and buying the already tricked up one that 240Z Turbo has up for sale.
  18. To answer the original question, if the Caddy had a V-6 it is the same Buick 4.1L V-6. The Caddy 4.1L V-8 had a "4100" badge while the V-6 was "4.1". It was also available in the following: 80-84 Buick Electra, Riviera, and LeSabre; 81-82 Cadillacs; 81-84 Olds 98 and Toronado; 82 Pontiac Bonneville and Grand Prix. The Buick 4.1L V-6 is just a larger version of the 3.8L and can be distinguished by the Quadrajet carb. It is becoming a popular engine for converting to a turbo for a nice increase in displacment over the 3.8L.
