  1. Spintech makes oval/even square exhaust and piping for those tight fits. Check there website out sometime.
  2. I just traded a LS1 pan for a LS2 Covette pan, it's a little shallower.
  3. Kevin, Nice talking to you yesterday. I'll look into that kit your looking at and give you what info I can put together asap. Thanks Mike
  4. On 235/60-15 M/T Drag Radials I went 6.80 at 102 1/8th mile and 10.80 at 125 in the 1/4, on motor. My 60 ft. was 1.48 so they work for sure! I have also gone 9.78 at 140 on them with a 175 shot! You can drive your car in the rain but keep speeds under 45- 50 unless you want to play bumper pool!
  5. Congrats on the 9 second pass, what headers are you running?
  6. Cool, thanks guys! May re-route them anyway as a friend nicked the passenger side line with my grinder last night. It's not leaking but has me worried, not something I want to fail at 140 mph going down the track!
  7. Don't forget the LS based motors are running 12.5 to 15 degree heads, that is were the power is at. Old school 1rst gen blocks run 23 degree heads and and flow less unless some serious cash is spent. I ran 10.80's on motor in my 240Z with a first gen small block but had 2000 in the heads and still they flowed like an out of box LS type head. You do some work on a set of LS heads and watch out, they can really haul the mail.
  8. Does anyone know where I can purchase replacement u-joints for the steering shaft in my 71 model 240Z, mine are shot as they have way too much slop in them. Thanks Mike
  9. I see where it is mentioned in the manual (John's) to re-route the brake lines away from the frame rails. Is it necessary, who has done it and where did you end up re-routing them. Please post pictures of your mods if you do not mind. I am cleaning up my engine bay after pulling my 385 out. Man, there are a bunch of holes to weld or JB weld closed. I also pulled the original wiring harness and am going to rewire the entire car with a Painless wiring kit and a homemade custom relay box. I have a feeling the word "Painless" will be anything but that...LOL Mike
  10. Nah, just got to stiffen things up a bit. Besides you don't twist when all you do is sit and spin...LOL
  11. Heck no! This car will be driven everywhere just like my other sbc set up, driven all over town and long hauls on pump gas running 9's in the 1/4. That is the only way to go, anyone can build a dedicated drag car, this will have heat and a/c tp boot...LOL I know the headers will be a son of a gun to say the least but I got to try...please don't laugh. I just need a bigger hammer
  12. Broken Kitty/JCI, I just pulled the old motor, transmission, almost all the wiring, etc. My friend is going to help me weld up all the holes in the engine bay and grind the welds down. Then it's paint and wiring, then motor and trans. We picked up a 4L80E case for test fitting, damn it is going to be tight!
  13. I do not own an LT1 but my first gen sbc 385 has all the go fast goodies and thru an unlocked auto puts 400 to the ground and close to 600 on the hose. It is a very easy driver, as I cruise it all over the Dallas/FT.Worth area. It only gets 13-15 mpg which sucks at 3.90 a gallon for 93 octane. The car hooks well on a 255/60-15 Mickey Thompson drag radial on the street or track, runs high 10's to low 11's on motor and 9.70's on the hose.
  14. Thanks everybody, I am starting the swap this evening. Hoping to have it all wrapped up within 4-6 weeks. The headers will be custom built 1 7/8" by 3 or 3 1/2" , the guy building them needs to keep the car for a while, that will be the most time consuming.
  15. I used a TCI if I remember right, it's only been 7 yrs lol.
  16. Good numbers, especially for stock! Love the mph for the 1/4 too.
  17. Can I use the stock alternator placement on an LS2 motor and have it fit under the hood of the 240Z without modifications? I am looking at an Alper Motorsports billet bracket since that is all I am running for now. It does not change the installation placement though. Thanks Mike
  18. Snapping CV axles in bad enough, kind of noisy...LOL
  19. My 240 is not lowered and I too am looking at options for oil pans. I can go LS2 Corvette or Fbody LS1 pan, maybe even custom but damn they are pricey!!! I will be dropping the motor in over the next two weeks so I'll post up how it goes.....wish me luck!
  20. I have spoken to several local builder/racers in the area and they all say the stock LS3 heads and intake are good for 450-500 rwhp, just add cam, springs, pushrods, good bolts or studs and have at it. Far less than 4K. I did the DOD delete, add cam, springs and pushrods, ported exhaust side only(Myself) on heads, head gaskets and head studs for1400 bucks plus 2200 for a complete LKQ L76 pull out with less than 70K miles. 3600 for a complete motor oil pan o intake, all accessories and harness/ecm. A bone stock LS3, LS2 or L76 would be a beast with boost!
  21. If you are making that kind of power and running 9's you should be running 300ZXT Turbo CV axles and custom stub axles. The stock stub axles wether they be 240 or 280 stubs will snap like twigs. Just my opinion and experience.
  22. I am in the middle of converting my 385 sbc to a LS2 based set up with LS3 heads and intake, should be interesting. Just got it back together, ported the exhaust side of the heads and installed an EPS 230/242 .600/.605 113 cam with upgraded springs and push rods. I am rethinking porting the intake too. Good luck with your build.
  23. I have a built 700r4 in my 240Z. For all the trash they talk about 700r4's I'll just say that mine has lived 7 plus years in my 240Z with no issues. If they are set up right they will live long in a light car, I run an Edge 9.5" racing converter with 3600 stall and have hundreds of passes at the track and more on the street. Use a good trans cooler, say a B&M, that's what I use and good fluids, flush every yr or two. Here's what mine can handle and I do it all the time.
  24. Very nice set up. I am in the progress of building a L76/LS2 with LS3 top end for my 240Z. I have run a 385 sbc in it for yrs with a 700r4 tranny and 9.5" 3600 stall. It runs consistent 9.70's. Not sure of what transmission to use but leaning towards a 4L80E for now.
