  1. Mine was tighter than a pair of jeans after Thanksgiving dinner. FYIW. All new timing components.
  2. That's a lot simpler, thanks sheen. I'll go over the 280z diagrams and figure out everything.
  3. Figured out what the setup is. All of them have been replaced I think, 5 of them are standard motor products fj23 (correct for turbo models) but one of them is a different model. Not sure which but the serial number is different from the other 5. The messed up one is one of the fj23s. I suspect the mismatched one is an NA injector so I'm going to replace that one and the messed up one so they all match. At least then I'll know I have a set of 6 matching model injectors before I go any further with testing, etc.
  4. Well, I've decided to bump this thread back up. It's been slow going, especially now that I'm back in school, but progress has been made. Been fiddling with/labeling the wiring harness tonight. At this point, the engine is sitting on the stand waiting for a few sensors to be reinstalled, motor mounts, injectors, and the turbo stuff. I'm going with a t3/t4 hybrid I got from a friend in a trade for upgraded Toyota front brakes. Going with an external wastegate. 4 psi spring while the engine is being broken in, just so that if I do hit boost it won't be a lot. Having a bit of a fiasco with fuel injectors... 4 of them match, and the other 2 are different from not only the other 4 but each other as well. I'll have to do some investigating with that. I'm going to rebuild the fan clutch from my engine before I throw it on. Probably something I should have done a long time ago but never really thought about it that much I guess. I've got a rear seal for the transmission on the way. I'll have to get the rear seal seated once the engine is off the stand due to the working space restrictions from the design of the stand itself. Then get the flywheel surfaced and bolted on. Going to pick up a TechnoVersions Ron Tyler style diff mount with the modded GM mount option to bolt the differential from the top to not only improve that whole design but also avoid spending even more money on a new differential mount. I also need to build a plate for blocking off the EGR. Won't be too difficult. I've got an oil pressure sensor on the way since my car uses the one-wire setup. Using a Nissan oil cooler adapter but I don't have the spare cash for the cooler right now so for the time being i'm just looping it. Seems like blocking it will also block off oil flow so that's a no-go. Still need to pick up a clutch kit and short shifter for the T5. Those and the diff mount are going to be the last few big dings in my nonexistent budget. I am missing the coil bracket/ignitor setup, though someone local has that so hopefully I can grab it from him soon. I'm also starting to think I'm missing the ignition harness itself... haven't confirmed that yet as there aren't a lot of pictures as to what it should look like. Going to use Redline oil in the diff and transmission. 75w90 GL-5 in the diff and D4 ATF in the transmission unless someone suggests otherwise. This is a lot of writing, but I have been constantly writing out what I need to do in order to get it internalized for when I'm actually working on it. At this point I'll be doing a fair bit of waiting for parts. It also just occurred to me that I've been doing all this worrying about driveshaft length, motor mount modifications, etc. when the guy I bought the driveshaft and diff from said it fit fine with the stock mounts and it was in an S30. I'll have to do some measuring to see what I'm working with, but hopefully it will work.
  5. Ah ok, I see what you mean about the part number markings. I'll check them when I get home. Unfortunately I'm rebuilding the engine for a swap so I can't run them right now.
  6. Sorry, got some better pictures with a better camera. Hopefully these help. Bodies of the injectors all seem to be the same. The one I'm holding off the rail is the one that seems to be messed up somehow. These injectors are for a 280ZX Turbo. Body of possibly messed up injector: Bodies of a couple other injectors still on the rail. The remaining 4 on the rail all look the same on the outside and inside: Inside of questionable injector: Inside of what seems to be a normal injector: They're tough to photograph but I did my best.
  7. The first and second pictures are the same injector. The third picture is a different injector I posted for reference.
  8. I'm rebuilding an l28et and noticed this injector looks off. At least the cap is missing, maybe more. Is it toast? I can't find anything to reference what it should look like without the cap. Thanks in advance. And a different injector for reference:
  9. I'm looking for a 280ZXT manual transmission crossmember. Looks similar to the normal 280ZX transmission crossmember but I think it bumps out a little horizontally instead of just being the straight U shape.
  10. Will do Jamal, thanks for your help. I'll let you know how they fit when I get them. - Brandon
  11. Hey guys, I'm in the process of putting my head back together and it seems along the way I lost a washer. It's the inner valve seat washer that sits on the lip below the valve stem seal. There's a larger washer that sits down underneath it. I haven't been able to find them online anywhere so I'm trying here. Hopefully someone has one. - Brandon
  12. They're still in the trunk of my other car so I'll have to take pictures tomorrow. In the meantime, here are some pictures of what I'm pretty sure are the same style as mine: (The second one I believe was someone who had a 2+2 louver but the style is still the same as mine) Like I said, I'll grab pictures of mine tomorrow just to be sure.Hope that can help provide some reference in the meantime.
  13. Hi, I recently picked up some Chastain Shadow louvers for my 280z but they don't have the lower mounting plates that the captive screws go onto and tighten down on. These louvers are the kind that go underneath the weatherstripping and lift up. Thanks in advance, Brandon
  14. I've got an extra one but I'm pretty sure it needs a rebuild. I know you want one that doesn't need a rebuild but this ad has been here for a couple weeks so I figured I'd offer.
  15. My friend is running a dual electric fan setup, so that probably increased his amount of room to play with by a significant amount. Unfortunately the engine and transmission are separated and up on a shelf at the shop so it's not easy for me to go out and check measurements. My understanding was that the purpose of moving the engine forward was to make the powertrain and drivetrain fit while using a stock 280ZX Turbo driveshaft. Everything I've read states that people have had to get one made or modified. EDIT: Nevermind, he just texted me back and said it was so the tranny would line up with the stock mount. One of the guys in our shop who has experience with these swaps offered to cut and weld my stock mount so it would fit the turbo tranny so I'm good there then.
  16. Decided to bump this thread again. We'll have a corner in the shop opening up soon as one of our techs is relocating to the other shop and my boss said he'll give me that for workspace over the summer. If all goes accordingly, I should have my work space available next week. When I bought the wiring harness and rear end, the guy told me that he remembered using a turbo engine mount and a non-turbo engine mount in his S30 swap and didn't have to push the engine forward at all. Now I'm not even sure if there's a difference since they're effectively the same engine, but I have read that the L28ET/Nissan T5 combo is a bit longer than the other L28 setups. My friend told me he had to move his engine forward an inch or two so everything would fit. I've tried searching for any mention of this but haven't found anything. Anyone ever hear of something like this?
  17. The paint isn't in great condition but $1500 isn't really a bad deal. What kind of issue is it having with the idle? Does it try to choke itself out if you let it idle?
  18. The driveshafts are different, did you swap a turbo driveshaft in or use the one that you had in there with the other transmission? EDIT: Nevermind, missed how old this thread was.
  19. I ended up picking one up last night. The guy I bought the wiring harness from had one. I am looking for the transmission crossmember, though. If anyone has one, hit me up.
  20. I've been doing more reading up on MS (specifically about the MAP sensor) and feel at least a bit less overwhelmed by it now. Now I know you guys will roll your eyes and shake your heads when I tell you this, but I got a good deal on the stock electronics from a running turbo car so I'm going to roll with that after the rebuild so I can make sure the engine starts and runs. I can't afford dropping the cash on MegaSquirt so I settled on this in the meantime. I'm still planning on upgrading to MegaSquirt in the future, though, so this should give me an easier starting point for familiarizing myself with wiring and the engine before I dive into something more daunting. I also got the diff and driveshaft, so I pretty much have everything for the swap now.
  21. AFM taken care of thanks to borini63. ECU and wiring harness have also been sorted. If anyone has a driveshaft for an 82-83 280ZX Turbo I'd like to work something out.
  22. Thanks for the advice, everyone. I talked to my boss last night and he told me that one of the guys who used to work at our shop has done a lot of MegaSquirt work and will becoming back to work during the summer since he's at university right now, so I think with his help I'll be able to go the MegaSquirt route without having to worry too much. My only question now is should I stick with the stock AFM with MegaSquirt, or is there an upgrade I can do like using a MAF instead? I'm also planning on doing the 240sx throttle body swap.
