Fender Vents, General aero Questions
socorob replied to Challenger's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
Did any of you see how the new Ferrari F12 vented thru the fenders on top gear last night? -
Do you have a picture of the downforce rear spoiler installed on a car ?

Thanks. Received the part yesterday and it looks good and fits in the horn pad nice and tight. While steering wheel is apart I'm refinishing the pwood so I won't be able to test the function for a little while longer.

Looking for a taillight bezel surround, the black plastic that goes around the tail lights for a 1978 280Z 2 seater, NOT 2+2. I want ones not cracked and with none of the mounting holes busted out. I will repaint them, so don't care if they have been painted before or not. Thanks. I am located in 70448. Will take even single if there's not a pair available.

Ideas/tips for cleaner looking clamps
socorob replied to PLATA's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
There's also heat shrink clamps. Only problem is if one happens to fail on the road you can't change it out easily. -
gas tank fume circulation
socorob replied to bigbreak_2000's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
The old cars didn't have any emission regulations to deal with so the fumes were just vented to the atmosphere. They would come out of the carbs and a lot of cars back in the day had vented gas caps. That's why sometimes at the autocrosses you'll see some of the old British cars having gas come out of the caps on hard turns if their tanks are too full. Not a good thing. -
I pm'ed you. I would like one.

Go to a u pull it yard and look for an early 80s BMW, 4 door preferably, as the cable will be longer. Their batteries are in the trunk, and since they charge a set price for battery cable, its really cheap. I got 2 of them, for under $20 for both, probably about 10 feet long or so each, 1 probably a little bigger than my thumb, and 1 about as big as my pointer finger. Also there is a really nice jump point under the hood it goes to you might want to grab too.

Let me check to see if that's whats broken on mine( im sure it is) and if so I'm interested.

Need the genius LS guy opinions

those upper links look really short. Are you getting a lot of roll steer with this setup? -
[How To] Correct Understeer and Oversteer
socorob replied to Onion's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
My little british car would understeer in autox a lot. I picked up time by using trail braking.. waiting as long as possible and heavy on the brakes at the very last moment to shift as much weight as possible to the front tires. It cut down a lot on understeer and cut off a decent amount of time. -
I emailed them and they said they don't know specifically about the fitting on a 280z, but they have dealers and resellers who sell them so they don't know every car they have been installed into. He said they do draw more amperage but you can get a relay harness from painless or summit for around $150 or they make one for $50. He said it plugs into your existing harness and has a positive and ground you just hook to the battery so they run off battery voltage and it takes the load off your switch and wiring.

So given the choice thee seems to be 2 common gear ratio setups on the T56. One has a taller first gear but with lower overdrive .63 i think. I guess a closer ratio trans and the other has a lower first with a higher overdrive .50 I think. What is the preferred one for a swap with a 3.54 rear? Are the gear ratios in te 6060 similar to the t56?

Lizard skin heat on both sides?

I sat in a Subaru BRZ the other day and they have narrow really nice seats. Unfortunately I didn't have a tape measure with me. Does anyone have one they can measure? They look like good candidates even though at this time they are probably impossible to find.

Handy Wilwood Brake Plumbing Product
socorob replied to z240's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Those are nice. There's some other ones that use a lever instead of a knob, and I've seen them mounted inside some track cars so they can adjust them on the fly. -
http://haloheadlights.co/ Has anyone tried these? And if so can you comment on the quality and the fitment? I've seen them for sale at car shows and they LOOK nice, but haven't seen any installed.

LS motor is hard on the old chassis
socorob replied to RebekahsZ's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I guess the torque arm you are talking about would be like the backbone ala miata. Some of them had an arm that went from the trans to the diff. Wonder how easily one of those could be modified for the Z? http://www.miataturbo.net/attachments/general-miata-chat-9/60327d1353449479-need-help-purchase-decision-miata-chassis-5k85s35j83id3nc3hac9nc5dd3e18e1c8150e-jpg It would stiffen it up a lot but would wreak all kinds of havoc on trying to get dual exhaust down there. It's hard to see in the pic above But you get the idea. -

socorob replied to RebekahsZ's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
did y'all do any spot or stitch welding to the seams before the engine swap? i'm curious because I'm planning an LS swap into mine and i spent the last couple evenings putting extra spot welds all over every seam in the interior. I was planning on doing the same underneath once I get the car raised some. I'm still on the fence about to rollbar or not to rollbar. Do you think if everything is stitched up and with baddog rails it will be ok? -
If your console was still in good shape you could use something like a retrosound, which is a mechless unit with 2 post installation like the original radios. Once its hacked I think you're on your own.

Another route is cleaning the ones you have. Eastwood makes a bolt cleaner to remove all the rust from your original bolts. Its like a rock tumbler. Just use antisieze on the bolts that you can.

What to do when your s30 hood release cable breaks!
socorob replied to 1 tuff z's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Try West Marine. The one here has a whole cable section with all kinds of ends and connectors and a huge crimp tool mounted to a table you can use to make up what you need.
