I think it would be benificial to have a thread of everyone who has a L28 turbo list what you have and your mods as well as when you get positive boost and how well you like it. example:: -engine= L28ET JE pistons 8:0.1 compression -turbo= t3/to4E 60trim compressorwheel, .63 turbine housing stage 3 wheel. -Exhaust system - How much boost you run and when it goes pos pressure to peek boost. -ECU= MSNS1 v3 -440 CC injectors -HP= if you have dyno tuned it and what type of dyno..(this will not be exact as no 1 dyno is the same) What im trying to accomplish is a nice and easy thread to search and have information on different turbo setups people are using on the L28 motor. Please let me know if this thread has been started before as I dont want to duplicate one.. Thanks

L28ET Street Car.. What size Turbo.....
wigenOut-S30 replied to Project_240's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
My Z is basically this setup. But I am wanting around 380-400wheel. From what I have been researching.. A t3/to4E 57 or 60 trim compressor wheel and a .63 exhaust housing. The only questions I have are.. Is the stage 5 / P trim turbine wheel better then the stock or stage 3 turbine wheel? And will this wheel go into a .63 housing? Just like you I would really like nice boost and power down low.. I think garrett76ZT on here used to have a similar turbo and made 420rwhp at 20psi of boost and had full boost by 3300-3500. I cannot remember his exact specs though. I took the stock turbo to about its max and then had a baby t3/t4 turbo all wrapped up in the T3 housings. The problem I have with the stock turbo is, you can hit 18-20psi of boost but it falls off to around 17 or so.. -

Dyno Tuned the Z last night **UPDATE VIDEO ADDED**

Ok, back at work and got a chance to take a screen shot of my VE table Here is the base VE table before the dyno session. This is what VE table I came up with after making the last dyno pull before my turbo died. As yall can see I had to take quite a bit of fuel out and I was still running 11.3 AFR's -
From what I hear they didnt ask her back because Tom cruise is such a freak and will not leave the set while she works, causes all kinds of problems.

Sure thing I will take a snapshot of it and post it. My AFR's were actually alittle richer then what the AEM gauge was showing.. but they were still as smooth. -

Yeah Yasin, this is Austins old motor.. It is working great by the way.. GO AUSTIN!!. heh.. The turbo is one I bought off a member here. It is a Nissan T3 with a stage 2 exhaust wheel and a I think 50 trim T4 wheel for the compressor. It is a stock Compressor housing that has been hogged out. So it looks exactly like a T3. -
Well, This comes with Good results as well as bad.. First off let me say that working with Mike at TDC(Top Dead Center) was awesome!!.. ..Before I was about to make a run..Looked at my wideband and wouldn’t you know it... 14.8 and wouldn’t move.. Took it out cleaned it with brake cleaner.. seemed to do the trick but it was acting funny and didn’t want to trust it. So we put the Dyno's sniffer in there and used that as well. My first run was at 15psi and 10.9 AFR's . I put down 250rwhp and 300ft lbs of Tq. Started working on my High boost setting. boost was getting 20-21 spike and then the falling to 17-18psi. Starting my high boost tuning it was 11.0's across the board. I leaned it out a good bit and added a little bit of timing.. My final run was with 11.3's and 11.5's AFR ,Still kinda rich. This netted me 292RWHP and 356Tq. I was thinking it should be making a little more Hp then this but the Tq was looking nice. From what I hear mustang Dyno's show alittle lower on HP. Now comes the bad. I was trying to make my boost more stable by adjusting the gain setting on my controller. On my second attempt we hear what sounds like a pop and then a supercharger type wine. Shut down immediately and started investigating.. We found the issue. My turbo has crapped out.. Either the journal bearing ate through the shaft or my exhaust wheel either broke off or the fins came apart. SOOO upgrade time.. but it will be a while before I get a new turbo set up as they are not cheap heh. I should have a vid up soon. Thanks again to Tampa Mike over at TDC (Top Dead Center) for everything and I will be going back to him for retuning the car when I get a new setup!!!! Here is a video I put togeather of a couple of the runs. For more information about (Top Dead Center Located in Mobile AL) you can contact Mike Amerson at http://www.tampamike.org This is a AWD Mustang Dyno

OH HECK YEAH!!!!!!!!!.. warren your already in the 12s man.. just have to launch harder heh.. man I see low 12's or even 11s in your future if you get her tuned and more boost.. Congrats man.. Pretty soon I will be looking at your tail lights!!..

I sourced piping from a different person. I found that most of the piping you get off the ebay IC piping has some sort of coating and its hard to tigg unless you get all of it off.
-
I can only account for my personel experience. I went from a starion IC to this unit and it was night and day. My AIT's now that I have aluminum IC piping and routed the cold side to be as short as possible are pretty low. Rowing the gears from 1st-4th It would climb up to around 99 deg. As for the thermal properties on the IC itself I couldnt tell ya.. A side by side test with one of these and the high dollar units would be awesome!. The inside of my end tanks really didnt have any casting flaws or anything like that.
-
Hey Scottie, I think Im running this exact IC. So far I have been really impressed. I got mine over a year ago. The prices have really come way down. All the welds on mine are perfect and It pressure tested fine. So for the price I say go for it.
-
BJhines, Your posts are of personal attack and uncalled for. You have NO idea of everything that happend simply because you were not there. With all do respect , who the heck are you to tell someone to sell there car? Crap happens even for GREAT drivers.

Well, after taking it slow on the swap.. heh you all know how that goes. I finally finished it. The last part I was kinda stuck on was the tranny crossmemeber. As for the bell housing I drill out the first hole as every one else does to 5/8ths. I then took the raised lip on the counter shaft bearing down to almost flat. I went a head and used a 280zx counter shaft bearing so I wouldnt have to mill out the 280zx bell housing.. We will see how this holds up. The last thing I did was make the tranny cross member. What I did was take the stock member and cut it in 2 places. Then took plate steel and welded each side to that. This is very strong and worked out great.. here are some pics.. 240sx tranny taken apart. 280zx bell housing shaved down.. tranny cross member completed.
