  1. I think the main part of the debate was weight and the semi trailing arm design of the rear. When compressed it creates negative camber and can create traction issues. All that can be tuned out with suspension upgrades though and handles just as well as the S30 with comparable mods. I will always have a soft spot for the S130's My first Z was a 83 non turbo and I really liked it a lot! it was great around town and on the interstate. Honestly I love my 280Z's body lines better then the S130 but I would have another one just as a nice GT car, but with a turbo this time heh.
  2. When I had the stock ECU in my Z and it rained. It would never fail that I had to re-seat the ECU. Just had to unplug and plug it back in. Somehow the moisture gave it a dead seat. Also check your grounds. The moisture in the Dizzy is also very common like the others said.
  3. In one of my classes I had to show something that's a hobby or passion. So I made this quick vid of my Z's evolution. I had to keep it short so I left a LOT of things out heh.. Let me know what yall think.
  4. Do you know the possible cause of the bearing failure? That is bitter sweet. Very sweet to shake down the Z with the new setup but motor failure always sucks. I hope you get everything sorted out soon man.
  5. Have you searched around Huntsville to see if there are any performance shops near? I know Go-autoworks is a good shop but is in Montgomery area which is a hours away from you. http://go-autoworks.com/
  6. My original Competition scoop molded hood is currently for sale. This is not a reproduction piece and the mounting studs are molded into the scoop. Link to the For sale thread. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/98673-looking-to-sell-my-hood-with-the-rare-240z-side-slotted-cowl-molded-in/
  7. I ran 16x8 wheels with 245 45 16s for a few years. Granted that was with -13 offset though and I did have to roll the fenders. Never came close to the spring perches though. Can you take some pics of the clearance issues? and maybe some of the inside of the wheel. Some wheels have the offset stamped on the inside.
  8. The only issue with the GT series turbo's is.. if the center section is bad or anything wrong with it, Im 99@ sure you have to get a whole new center section.
  9. Hey Mike! long time no see man! Why did you opt to change from the auto to the 6spd? Did you ever best your time of 8.9 in the beast? Should be a lot of fun with the 6spd and probably more streetable as well. Gabe
  10. Have you seen these manifolds in person? Well I have and the Inside Diameter are a HUGE improvement over the stock tiny runners. Im going to call Rick to see if he will post up his before and after dyno experience with this manifold.
  11. Lets get this thread back up and running guys! It has been quite some time.. Post up! *** MODS*** Think this might be sticky worthy?
  12. I cannot remember if Rick Bowers ( Speeder) had tapered runners or not on his but I remember him doing a dyno test before and after the manifold and gained some pretty significant power. I tried searching but it is almost useless to search hybridZ for previous posts from someone. Edit** found one of Ricks Posts with Pics.. His did not have tapered runners. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/28200-new-engine-update/page__p__218454__hl__%2Bthagard+%2Bintake__fromsearch__1#entry218454
  13. I know Garrett Maddox had one on his L28ET 280Z and I believe he made over 500 wheel HP before the motor went south. Maybe he will chime in as well. I found one of Garrett's Dyno Posts. Not the most power it made but I think this was still with the stock cam. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/48627-some-new-dyno-numbers/page__hl__%2Bthagard+%2Bintake+%2Bmanifold
  14. OK, ALMOST TIME!!! you have a few days left Rick and then you can get this project back on track. I hope all has been well with you man.
  15. I live in Mobile AL, about an hour west of Pcola. We have quite a few Z cars over this way. Welcome to the gulf coast!!
  16. Such a nice build! Very clean and she should make some great power! Congrats!!!
  17. Thanks guys, Dale, you do a course walk first and then you have pointer cones to show you the way.. when you are there in person it is a lot easier to see where to go. No the Cam was a borrowed HD camcorder with a awesome mount.
  18. Here is a quick vid of my Z at the Gulf Coast SCCA auto cross at Brookley field in Mobile AL. Very fun course and quite quick. I ended up about 3.5 sec slower then the FTD but it was a tight group and there are some awesome drivers down here. With some better tires I would be a little more competition. At anyrate.. enjoy the L28ET love! Oh and yeah what a shot eh? my Buddy Dan took this still from the video.. I think I could have gotten closer..lol
  19. when I built my down pipe and exhaust I cut the pieces mocked everything up and then taped them together in the position I wanted them to be welded in using clear tape. I would do this. I would cut what needs to be cut.. use tape and any other piping to get it mocked up on the Z.. then have it all welded up.
  20. Im selling a Nissan Comp. side vented cowl hood if you are interested. Here is a pic and link to the for sale section. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/98673-looking-to-sell-my-hood-with-the-rare-240z-side-slotted-cowl-molded-in/
  21. I have been running my 280ZX turbo CV's for over a year and removed my rear sway bar because it interfered with the boots. This past weekend I wanted to re install my rear sway bar. I figured out that I could remove the spacer and get a shorter bolt. This allowed the end links to NOT interfere with the boots on the CV's but on the drivers side the sway bar will contact the A arm. I thought about notching the A arm and gusseting it solving the problem. I would like to know what you guys have don in the 280Z's using CV axles and sway bars?
  22. Why not get a Nitrous kit and run like a 40-50 shot on the L28? and then it can also be used when you get the V8 in there?
