  1. I just acquired a 82 l28et Looks to be very clean and rebuilt but it has a blown head gasket. The engine was tuned and running good until the PO tuner up the boost on the manual controller and blew the HG. It is running a trigger wheel set up with a ford coil pack. 440? injectors, Megasquirt 2 3.3.0 extra. 3"exhaust everything need except wide band.. Presently I have a 240z with a L28 zx with flat tops and SU carbs, STI diff closed ratio 5 speed Question: It would be easier for me to bolt on manifold tap oil pan and wire the the flat top piston motor that is in the car. I am a newbee to MegaSquirt and figure I really don't want to mess up a good tune. So ... Is the tune so specific to the engine that I should just replace the head gasket a go with the turbo motor and dished pistons or ... Go with turbo the flat top engine for good response down low, will the tune be really off ? Side note I have another z that has a JWT Ecu dish pistons etc. But non tune-able, so I familiar turbos but like to tinker and learn MS. I thought my carbed car my be more fun with flat top pistons and a smaller turbo it might be a fun autocross car Thanks for any advice ...
  2. Your prices are about right . What's wrong with engine you have ? Clean it up and go ? Could save when you blow your first head gasket . I am in black mountain if you are ever in the area send me a pm . I am running about what you described except Jim wolf ecu , forged pistons and a Borg Warner turbo. Your price on the turbo is a little low for new . I think I sold my Garrett used for 750. Does that one have an internal waste gate ?

  4. Thats round ports. You can use either round or square I have both send me a pm if your interested $50 +shipping they need to be blasted and cleaned
  5. I have a couple laying around rusty but they work . shipping is kinda of an issue probably around 40 square or round port stock or aftermarket

  8. since you dont have a wideband I would check plugs, . get a fuel pressure tester either in line or harbor freight not expensive. are you using a rising rate regulator?. Can't remember but I assume you have checked compression ...
  9. did you check timing mine would pop and fall when my timing was way retarded
  10. It worked!. put a couple of squirts of marvel mystery oil in each of the cylinders rocked it back and forth. I came loose after a couple of days. Dropped the engine in did a compression check 160 across except for 1 cylinder had about 30psi.. after cranking for a while it came up to 160. Started the engine ran great. dump a 1/2 can of sea foam in the oil ran about 50 miles and drained. Car runs great! no smoke, used a nissan intake/exhaust gasket. I think that helped with cabin smell. fresh engine with flat tops makes for a fun little car. A little more predictable than my turbo z, and reliable..

  12. Just be careful when installing the side shafts . Get the c-clip aligned .
  13. I am battling heat issues in my 240z swapped turbo. non stock, Borg W. turbo, 420cc injectors, intake is in front of intercooler etc. Questions: 1. Will wrapping the header help ? 2. Turbo blanket ? 3. wrapping the fuel rail but that would be ugly and difficult ? 4. heat shield between intake and manifold ? My plan is to install a thermostat to run the electric water pump and fans after shut down but this will also run the fuel pump since it is tied in with the ignition Ideas ? Thanks for the help ...

  17. Picked up a zx engine that had been sitting for a long time. but has few miles around 40k . I removed all spark plugs and can only turn the engine 1/4 turn any ideas ? tooked valve cover off head looked clean no loose rocker arms. How can I tell if I have a bent valve ? Could the clutch still attached catch something ? (going to remove tommorrow . Rather not take it apart but if I have to which would be first pan or head ? Thanks

  19. So is this ok .. L28et forged balanced set up unknown miles built about 10 years ago. I put on a mechanical gauge and at cold idle I am about 12 psi and hot idle around 8-9 idles at 800 rpm as my rpm goes up I get more psi 20 psi = 2000rpm 30 psi 3000 rpm so on The idle had me a bit worried dont want to burn up a new borg Warner turbo . Oil synthetic 10w/30 can I go to 20w 50 or is too thick for the turbo Are the #s ok or am I looking at new bearings ? thanks DC
  20. A little off subject but as compared to lets say an LS3 low miles $7-8k for engine trans $2-3K mounts, drive shaft, headers etc. 2-3ish for Labor. Kinda puts you in the same price range.Thats just what I have seen/ read.
  21. I thinks you should listen to Tony not sure you need the P90 . Like he said get the afr and timing right . Turn up boost slowly ...
