  1. I have the same exact issue that you are having right now. I ordered one from Summit (soft seal) and I got that stupid rectangular one also. So far I have checked everywhere online, and I can't seem to find it at any local auto parts stores either. So, let me know if you figure this out. I'll do the same.
  2. Hoov, On the subject of plastic/aluminum vs all aluminum, the theory behind that is that the all aluminum supposedly have a tendency to crack more easily than the ones with the plastic reservoirs. This is just coming from JTR, not my opinion. I bought the JTR plastic/aluminum radiator for cheap as an unused secondhand item, but have yet to run it as my car is still in build mode. Have you personally had problems with the JTR radiator, or just plastic/aluminum in general?
  3. Why did you have to make it so hard to choose?!? First choice is the Porsche, just because of it's track-a-bility and fun, as an all around awesome car... NSX if I were feeling like something exotic and unique. Like mxgsfmdpx pointed out, the Supra is always a good choice too I do think that the Porsche would look the best sitting next to the Z in the garage
  4. You should at least take some pictures and throw it up on CL and on here.
  5. Curious how it got in there... complete drivetrain and rust free, and not totaled?
  6. I think one reason for that is the build forum used to only allow members to post in their own threads, like a blog. Since people wanted others to be able to comment, they posted in other areas with their builds. I know what you mean, though, my build thread is in the S30 section where I posted it initially.
  7. Here is my advice: Unless you already know a lot about the V8 conversions, I would stay away from them unless you really, really trust the seller. If it's from a reputable person in the Z community that is known for quality work, then yea, go for it. The problem is, it is really easy to get the wool pulled over your eyes when buying such a modified vehicle, because you don't necessarily know what to look for unless you have already done it yourself, or you have researched it so much that you know the ins and outs of a V8 conversion. Not to say you shouldn't buy one, you just have to be careful. If you buy one, it could end up not even being close to the setup you want or really need, or worse, it could be just plain unsafe because of a poor install or corners cut on things like chassis reinforcement, etc. There is a thread that has been going on with people talking about how much they have spent on their V8 conversion, it might be a good idea to go through that thread just to get an idea of what a real conversion costs, as well as look through some of the build threads to see what goes into it, so you might know better what to look for.
  8. That is really, really cheap for any Z. Is it stolen? If not, it might have a crap ton of problems underneath that the seller is trying to offload without the buyer asking too many questions. I would be suspicious.
  9. Yep, there's already a thread with this and another video by them. Apparently someone in the band has a thing for S30's.
  10. Time for another update! I reinstalled all of the suspension, still not the last time, because I will have to figure out the alignment for the driveshaft as well as reinstall the parking brake. I also fabricated a mount for the fuel pump, after a lot of pondering on where it should go. I wanted to make sure the inlet was as close to the sump's level, or at least the bottom of the fuel tank. So, this is what I came up with. It fits nicely between the fuel tank and the mustache bar, with plenty of room. I used thick grommets out of an inexpensive eBay grommet kit to help insulate it further. It's not perfect, but it's not going anywhere. Because of the length (12 inches top to bottom) I think I will need to watch it for vibrations. I might cut the side arm off and weld another arm at the bottom, and run it to the same mount point on the spare tire well. I also ordered up all the Earl's fittings and lines I need, so pictures of those installed will be coming soon.
  11. http://www.xenons30.com/reference.html All the factory service manuals, as well as the microfiche to tell you what you need.
  12. I second the idea to invest in a good low profile electric fan. Free up a little horsepower, never worry about a fan clutch going out and destroying the radiator...
  13. There's a bunch more if you look up the "links" tab at the top of the main page. Too Intense Restorations is one, Top End Performance is another.
  14. Got the fuel pump, ready to get fuel tank and pump mounted, and get those braided lines!

  15. With a few minor modifications of the crossmember, and the addition of one of your cowl induction hoods, it should fit rather nicely What would that be, about 1.2 hp per lb? You might need to consider some chassis reinforcement too.

    Hole Plug ideas

Yea I found that the metric sizes correspond pretty close to the standard ones. Pretty cool dash setup you got there
  17. Heck yea that looks like a good deal. I would look to make sure the tires are in good shape, no cracks in the rubber (they tend to sit a long time in the sun). Also that the axle is in good shape, standard moving parts stuff, and that the lights work. Otherwise I would just make sure it has all the tie-downs, and no signs of damage to the frame or welds. Those things are pretty heavy duty, I would imagine it's in good shape if it looks that good. If that were for sale around here, I would expect to see it for sale for at least $2k. But, things could be different there.

    Hole Plug ideas

You might try getting a rubber grommet kit off ebay, some of the kits are pretty cheap and have a lot of different size full plug grommets to chose from. I got a kit and while there isn't a lot of any one size, they are cheap enough that you can buy a few kits to get the ones you need.
  19. So I'm guessing you are planning a turbo setup? If not, your headers are on upside down Have you worked out transmission/driveline fit yet? The JTR kit is supposed to place the transmission in a near-stock position, you might be having to cut a hole in the side of your center console to get the shifter through. Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question, though.
  20. Do you want the paint to last? To hold its color? To be even and uniform? To look good? If the answer is yes, then you might want to consider spending that $400 for your paint. If none of those things matter to you, then your best bet is going to be Walmart.
  21. Harbor Freight is a great source for a lot of tools, especially ones that don't get used very often. Some of them are actually surprisingly well made, like the angle grinder I have. I own Harbor Freight Jack stands, two floor jacks, engine hoist, wet brick/tile saw, angle grinder, solder gun, tin snips, table vise, C clamps, random orbital buffer, air ratchet, welding mask and gloves, and more. The price/value ratio is very good, and everything works great. Especially the small hand tools! Just because they are cheap doesn't mean they won't work like they should.
  22. Really cool color! It looks so meeeeaaannn!
  23. Good point, I wasn't thinking about that. Carry on I guess when you see people jumping on here trying to circumvent the rules all the time, you get a little jumpy. Sorry!
  24. Be advised, selling items on this forum without becoming a donating member is prohibited. Also, an FSM can help you, or any aftermarket shop manual.
