Will it hit like a true lsd out of a turn though, that is the question I keep asking and dont get any response from. I know one ford powered z that cant even get a cool doughnut going with the phantom grip!

get a new lower radiator hose, some of them are cut to fit, cut it to fit so it doesnt hit the alternator fan, if its really close, you could always get a hose, slice it down the middle, and zip tie it over the closest part?

z32 seats fit nice in my 75, takes about45 minutes with some work to the z seat sliders, 20 minutes to the second seat. NICE...

Take a look at my pics just up. Not much i know

My car wont even run with a dsm or saab style bov un recirculated, unless i keep reving it up. With the jpipe i got some of the fastest boost response ever, and when I intercooled the car i was kinda bummed I lost that big kick in the pants the small turbo gives with the jpipe, but response in the powerband was a lot better and didnt lag out between shifts. I do run a pretty nice 3" exh, stock dp though

Having an open atmosphere dump does cause a small surge, doesnt effect running of car at all IME. The factory bovs all have their drawbacks, especially running a valve made to recirc as a open one. Ive seen dsms do it for years now, and im not sure how they do it. My buddy also runs one DSM type open on a z car (halteched) and its fine for him as well. You can try crushing it but yes it will react slower to it and sometimes they dont work at all. Blitz and greddy as well as a bunch other companies make BOVs that will bolt right in place of that dsm valve, and really give off the whoosh whoosh. I dont notice any difference venting mine out vs. recirculating the air on my car, with the t3 it makes boost instantaneously after the shift, 12psi after 12psi with no kind of wait.

While the z is down, been working on my buddies typhoon, right now running pretty stock but all the bugs sorted out of the conversion (typhoon body and driveline in a blazer frame) and last week we took it out to the races to see what it could do. Last friday we were up until 7am kickin sports car butt with it and we all slept past rio vista. Heres a list of what a 4000 lb car with awd 4.3 turbo (280hp and 340 ft) 14.5 psi, stock exhaust and 3 powered 12" subs on 275/40/17 drag radials on 17x9 corvette wheels with kumhos in the front (dont need em, but they helped) with two passengers will do... 4.6 cobra rsx with 225hp jdm engine( three times!) acura tl with a supercharger(twice!) civic with ls/vtec dohc(not even close!) s13 with sr20det with bpu!!! (this was a revenge run, he had previously beat the typhoon owners 454 el camino in a traction impaired situation.) 99 c5 with a bad driver(12.4 car when he has DR, shoulda wore em) 300zxtt bad driver mustang 5.0 with flowmasters audi tt with piggyback fuel computer we lost to: wrx sti lancer evo but not by much. car pulls a 1.7 60ft time when powerbraked to 2300, stall is really low on these cars so we couldnt get a harder launch than that out of it. ridiculous.... Makes me really want to do the gn swap now, an suv that outdrags many a sports car???? With a stock ecu that limits shift point to 4700? Stall so low we cant get out the hole harder than 2300? First boost disabled by ecu so we dont even get full boost out of the hole? Bone stock with a k and N air filter and a fresh oil change? Ridiculous, purely ridiculous... This week we ordered a street chip, going 3" straight exhaust, upgrading the water air ic pump, and the obligatory hks ssqv, and see if we cant get back on the awd turbos (which seems to be where the weight of the car comes into play) Needless to say, my Z isnt going anywhere near the races until I finish tuning the big turbo and get my rear suspension ready for stupid harsh drag radial abuse, stupid suv set the bar too high!! At least the suv is crew. He has all of us prepping our cars, im not even treading back to the runs until I get some shakedown passes at Infineon. We will try to have video in the next week or two after the upgrades. Should have seen the looks on peoples faces when an suv takes down expensive sports cars in a drag race! They couldnt even understand what they were seeing, the car launching without any noise and accelerating silently. Of course we were playing Lil John and Keith the Sneak at max volume through the subs as we came to the line though, how else do you expect that to happen? Drove the car a few runs but let the owner do most of the smacking. Its a great view from the passenger seat as you watch a man in a sports car shifting and driving his hardest to fall to an suv! Video this week or the next, with the mods we are hoping to take down the awd turbos as well!

Talked to Troy Ermish the other day about using this tranny. Still in progess. Basically machining L bellhousing to fit the KA trans so the same clutch fork, slave and t/0 will work, and 240mm flywheel not an issue he said. I find it a great alternative to L trannies because jy ones are now 20 years old on the bright side. T5 trans only came 2 years of that run so thats out of the question for me. The sx has a nasty fuel cut similar i think its both fuel and spark, its just gross. I would think with numerically lower than 4.08 the ratios in that trans would be extremely wide, which I think would go great on a turbo car with a little more gear than 3.54.

Im in pump gas or no, just sounds like fun to me either way. Race gas works for me, just because when im at the track its always 90 degrees outside.

All the s130zxt ecus interchange pretty freely. To do the z31 on a 81 setup, you have to change it to the CAS in the distributor from 82-3, because as you know, you need to use z31 CAS chopper wheel and the 81 has its CAS external. Ive run 82-3 ecus on the 81 harness, but I noticed that the car will sound like its misfiring when I let off the throttle, and it totally went away with the 81 ecu. The 81 also uses a external resistor pack for the injectors located in a small steel box that comes off the harness on drivers side-I think if it was bypassed that would be the way to swap ecus correctly to later models.

240sx's have 4.08 gearing and top speed limited to 114-5mph (5000ish rpm). Still do 75 at 3000, which tells me 5th is good ratio since even with the 4.08 the rpm is still pretty good.

for the later type 02 you could always just weld a nut to the dp. I got a 84 and an 87 turbo ecu, the 87 and up ones are harder to find. the 87 was complete, except for the diff Did get more 370s though

Never been able to get through a full tank without some WOT. Car can be economical, but why?

Where can I get 15x8 or 16x8 wheels?
fl327 replied to Turbo280Zcar's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Depends on what look you are going for. Centerline can make those for you or you check their wheel deals section A bunch of Japanese wheel makers can make wheels that fit as well Theres always CCW and Billet specialties as well. -
great seats, and take very little mods to fit. I am pretty tall, 6 foot plus, and modded drivers side more than passenger for the headroom. Drivers seat is a passenger seat from TT(tt drivers seat had a huge rip in it) passenger in mine is an NA z32 seat, I may fix the tt drivers seat, since its a power seat and I cant pass taht one up. Its funny having the same seat, but one is black leather and the other one is blue cloth. Good part about that one is that the seat brackets are the same and if I find a cherry leather seat itll dump in. Drill four holes in the z32 seats and the z sliders bolt right up. Me being me, I wont swap seats into my car unless its either A. Leather B. Racing seat if its not leather, with the exception of the z32 NA seat, its more of a prototype anyways.

Youll lose a little low end torque but engine will rev up a little quicker, the 3" system probably flows well enough that its not a very huge difference, but probably feels like it is since it sounds like nascar. engine is basically an air pump and can really shoot out the exhaust faster with no exhaust, its worth a few hp, who knows how much, just be careful, every movement of the throttle can be heard for blocks with open exhaust..

I would run the t350, i like em, ive seen em hold up to built bbcs, buddy has a 468 with a t350 behind it and goes hard with it and its not the weak link. if its a weekend warrior drag car, might be a good idea thing that sucks with that trans in a z with the v8 swap is once youre on the freeway, youre stuck around 55-60mph. sounds like you can get a good deal on a motor and trans, i would go for it. if you do the swap with the 3 speed first, i would shop for a 2004r trans later, its close in size to the 350 and would probably take less mods to install.

I think they will fit if you are going to lower 1". I lowered my car one inch and run 205/60/15 all around and still have a significant wheel gap there. A 280z lowered 1" is roughly as low or tall as a 240z stock ride height.

16x8 +30offset Work Wheels, red spoke pattern polished lips Wondering if these would work with MML adapter/spacer or would I have to do more custom work to mount these. I have a feeling the rears will be close to fitting, but pretty sure the fronts will not clear. I once ran 16x7.5 with +32 on rear and it fit, but only with a 205/55 tire and just bearly at that (two finger gap between wheel and strut), thats where im thinking the rears will work with the adapter and a 225/45/16. . My wheel math isnt too tight sorry if this has been asked before. Im thinking for the front running longer studs and figuring out what size spacer or maybe a thicker spacer for the fronts???

SR20 front clip is as much or cheaper than a turbo setup for a ka motor, unless you can find one used in good condition. Thats what usually kills the turbo ka idea I believe. KA is a good motor though, but the twin cam ones barely make any more power than the single cam version. I think you get 500 more rpm and 10hp or something like that, that changes when you turbo it, but then the SR20 option is still there, and its proven to take quite a bit of boost. I like Ka because they use timing chains and not belts, never been a timing belt fan myself. Sr20de came in some american spec Nissans and there are parts for them if stuff goes wrong, and its cheaper than an all out KA buildup that may or may not be faster than a sr20det setup with a bigger turbo.

Had to re think my z31 conversion wiring, at one point I was going thru a lot of MAFs. My z31 stuff is really bare bones, running fuel pump off a simple relay setup, basically just maf and ecu would be big changes. I do have a lot of those 370s though... Afshins writeup should be pretty good, he has every stock function that the ecu controls running with z31 stuff, very nice I thought. Two weeks I should have z31 running, again , messed up Im only doing the wiring work so I can drive it 14miles round trip to the shop...
-
There will be one soon courtesy of Afshin. Im making up another harness that uses 87 z31t stuff. Afshins should be pretty good I think, his setup uses all the idle stuff off relocated z31 pins and he still has the fuel pump modulator and a bunch of other good stuff working. His setup is pretty good if you want to use all the stock idle stuff and what not, my stuff would be air fuel spark thats about it.

Aside from being about a foot and a half too long, it works like a dream, just had to slam the hatch shut and leave it like that overnight, now it opens and closes just fine. I got mine off a 92 300zxtt and just laid it down with some weatherstrip adhesive, and cut the excess off in an exacting way so that there is no gap, took me 45 minutes, and 30 of it was applying glue and letting it set for a few minutes.
