Oil Filter Study - Disturbing - Lets Hear Some Feedback
fl327 replied to slownrusty's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
i guess ill be using nissan oil filters from now on, even if i change oil every other frekin month! -
they are the same thing as what came out of my car, they have that little joint at the end with the grease fitting, they come with a nice new rubber boot, and a new castlenut. i thought they were very nicely made, way better than a beck arnley type-that doesnt use the castelnut. but not as good as nissan it turns out, i had to return one because the threads wouldnt engage, and it really got me upset, since it added a day to a two hour project.
-
i use the moog type tie rods, and i get them for 17.99 a side, shop discount. they are usually about 25.00 a side yes i know, not nissan, but i have about 20k on em, with no signs of pain.

1. Should i upgrade from the stock ZXT pump? Is this what's causing my leaness? Seeing that it ran a 13.3 for you, i dont think its the problem, but it could start to be, one its like 20 years old, i dont think they work well over a certain fuel pressure/boost level either. ive heard good things from walbro and msd, both should work. I run a bosch cis pump for a porsche 944, but i went from this right off the bat so i dont know how high you can run the stock pump. best thing about the bosch pumps, i like the bosch pumps best myself, but that is an opinion of mine though. the msd, and walbro pumps are a lot cheaper though, and work fine. 3. I'm using a stock ZXT fuel filter (metal canister type) - Is this restricting me now, or will it if i upgrade the pump? dont think its the fuel filter, but nto sure. 4. Is the stock FPR causing me any leaness now? If not, will i need to upgrade it if i upgrade the pump? no its not the stock fpr, it should be fine, i have an adjustable, but i have personally seen the stock fpr on pumped up turbo L motors with hybrid turbos and all that jazz, and no complaints. i like my adjustable fpr because its got a guage i can see my fuel pressure at, and its anodized.! i figure if i run high boost, i would just turn up the rail pressure to compensate, and not use a rising rate regulator, i dont think they work too well for our cars, being a mass air type system that will throw down extra fuel when it senses air. what size is the return line on your car? my buddy with a pretty hot turbo 240z had problems leaning out before he enlarged his return line, not sure what size it is on those cars, but when he elarged it, the pinging stopped. what year is the efi setup on your car? i learned the ideal year is the 83 manual trans ecu setup, 24btdc compared to 20btdc for 81, and retards timing 6 degrees more under boost. one more thing that may be making you ping--lack of intercooler!!!!! is it pretty hot in jersey? that could be it too. slap that intercooler on and start checking out the deals on ebay for a better fuel pump, and enlarge that return, i think youll be very happy later, and im sure more people will chime in to help you out.

it would be just as expensive to get them to run lower boost than it woudl be to just fork out for injectors, i believe. 7psi on each is the lowest with the stock actuators.
-
i thought this was for a stock zxt?
-
good to see were using the same intercooler!
-
whats wrong with your injectors? as for low boost, just drive slow, and you should be ok, right?
-
they dont make any specific for early z cars, you can make one fit, but i have yet to see one thats really clean

glhs, had a chance to buy one once, kick myself for not doing it though chevy turbo sprint, 3 cyl boostin with the green spool light on the dash five speed, i still want one, id put my t3 on it!

ive talked turbo setups with hoovers to a pretty detailed extent. that car makes 400hp@14psi at the wheels on pump gas, and he could daily drive the thing if he wanted to, im thinking it has better manners than my car does, and my car is almost at the point that it drives like a brand new 280zxt, except no digital dash!. he has a pretty worked over head, that is obvious, but his cam is only a bump up from a stocker, makes all his power before 7k like a stock car with fuel upgrades, no lump in the idle that would tell you anything about its power potential. he does have many trick parts to his setup taht is for sure, most of them being in the bottom end of the car. he doesnt have a 10k mile and die race motor either, if he stays at 400hp he could drive it every day hard for a long long time if he wanted to. he could turn boost higher and run race gas and gets tons more power out of the setup, hes still making way more tq than hp at the 400level and undoubtdley can get more power, shoot the guy has a dyno in his backyard! 10s from an L motor isnt easy. im working on a daily driver that will run low 13s with lazy launching and 6100 shifts on stock efi and a huge turbo, and if i finally bite the bullet and go standalone, i expect to be quite faster, how much, i dont know.

Kito get an afm and an ecu for that car pronto get rid of the cannister, that car will never pass smog now no way no how. check for leaks off the intake and exhaust manifold, which i dont think you have. mess with the timing some. grab all the tps sensors that you can too. let her rip youre not getting any rpm out of that car, that could be why you cant make more than five pounds. hey that car felt pretty good, good response before it wants to stall out at 3k. im almost certain once you swap out that ecu and afm, your car will hit its full powerband. good luck. zcarsmakemyheadhurt, alex i tried to call you twice, didnt feel like leaving you a message because i didnt want to hog up your time that you could spend making some immediate business. im interested in that housing swap, im thinking it would simplify a few things for me, also like the idea of a full t04e in hybrid disguise, that would throw people off good i think, shoot if they dont look at the compressor i could tell em its the stock turbo. also into picking up some parts like that flange, and could use some recommendations on mounting this sucker as well, im starting to try and sketch out the new setup, so i will really need some input thats for sure. i will probably at least the wastegate configuration done in a couple weeks, as well as a downpipe. anyways ill hit you up dog. -
oh man just saw it, my throat is still sore from screaming althroughout the movie, especially when the yenko came through stormin. the skyline was pretty lame, especially because it only gets like three minutes of fame. Tyrese is the true star of the film i think, and it was very entertaining, i mean the movie was terrible, but not worse than the first one, thats for sure.

i like the early 80s maximas with L6 engines early 70s corollas and celicas are hot rx1-2-3 im down 1984 rx7 gsl-se, love em. sundowner-the rotary truck, i love those. i would do one of these, but the z is the only old school import i know that can take hp and loads without blowing out the driveline.

LS1 Fuel Economy - Updated - Again

take that car to the track! -
it would be cool to hook your turn signals up to those, blinking eyes, that would be cool.
-
sounds cool, i wanted to add something that would make it even quieter though. ok you have this flat bar where the rubber strap used to be drill a hole in the center of it, and install a polyurethane bumpstop there, or a pinion snubber as they are known commonly, and use washers to adust the preload on it, and tighten down the other side with the supplied nylock nut. boom, instant quiet, cushioned mount.
-
discos dead.... i got a real turbo for that ass.
-
Batman would be the last man standing, no doubt about it.

http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/sevenduececlassic/lst?.dir=/t04e+vs.+t04b&.view=t the one with the pack of smokes on the top is the t4e hope the shots are good enough to see what wheel its got there. the smaller one is the t04b , both turbos make a t3 look very very small
