Your intercooler piping looks ideal to me. Where did you source it out, the intercooler I mean, thats the way I am trying to run mine when its turbo time yet again. I like the blue piping. Great job.

The more boost that you need to bypass, the bigger the wastegate you would need, depending on how low you need it to be. The bigger ones are better for lower boost, which is why you see a lot of 6psi honda motors going straight for an external. You may be able to get away with a smaller one, as the L series is down on exhaust flow.

Ive seen stock et ringlands take 350hp without issues, and also seen flattop piston ringlands blow themselves off the piston at 300rwhp and too far advanced timing. I believe most forged piston designs have the ringland issue addressed. I myself believe that the L28et is indestructible 300hp and below with a stock block and good efi.

I kinda like the t5 upgrade path, using the gforce innards. Having a Nissan trans rebuilt is the price of the gforce or slightly cheaper, and hitting the junkyards for trannies is getting scarier and scarier for me-half the zcars in the junkyards already have junkyard trannies in them, it kinda sucks when you go to grab a transmssion, and you see the yellow paint marker writing that makes it stick out as a double junkyard trans. Of course, this is coming from the guy whos about to run a L28et with a "frozen" 4speed.

Tuned Standalone fuel, big injectors, properly sized turbo bolted to a stock 28et engine thats running good to begin with has made 300+ in many different peoples rides and can be street driven without issues.

The vacum hoses under the intake are just horrible looking...

Have to put it off for a while, most likely wont be using this engine in my z, I have to plan it for a time when I can devote more time to something that custom. I am in the process of picking up an alternative engine choice thats pretty common I guess, heaven can wait (sigh). I would like to try swapping q motor into my s13 chassis down the road. silfiniti.com has a little info about that conversion. Bummer about the attarco engines is no accesories.

with an auto the stock setup will last a while with a stick, maybe I had more trouble breaking mounts and frames than 1/2 shafts with the v8 conversion.

6speed? Very interesting. Im starting to think 1600 isnt bad for the trans upgrade to the newer t5 internals. I went to the junkyard and confirmed one of my worst suspicions- I found two zx's with junkyard trannies in them, its bad enough that the newest trans to go behind an L motor short of the options listed above is 22years old and most likely unrebuilt, but now the junkyard trannies are coming back to the junkyard....

4k install is cheap if they dynotune it with the install. If they dont, I would say that you would be paying a little much. Typical install charge over here is about 1.2k thats after taxes. Sounds like you would be better off in the long run with the sr. Sounds like the z31 ecu and maf on an 83 setup? they run good if the wiring is perfect, but most of the times, its not. Or, you could try to put in a new head temp sensor.....

IF you do alot of fwy driving, dont run the 4spd. With a 3.54 I swear I was doing 3k at 60mph. the four speed makes for an awesome street car though, and it doesnt break...

I estimateThe vh41 will make about 40hp more than stock when converted to five speed and tuned. Exhaust with a ton less restriction minus two cats. Open the intake and take noise filtering things out of the intake stream. I plan to run standalone ems for full tuning of ignition and fuel curve, which takes the 6600 fuel cut and 144mph speed governer out of the equation. Converting to a stick takes the torque converter, hydraulic brake (auto trans), and associated electronics out of the equation as well. I have a feeling the engine will make 300hp at the wheels with proper tuning and stock cams. Once I get it running right emphasis is putting it all to the ground in the turns. My engine and trans is going to be on the ground next week, its time...

Do you the 4.1 is compatible with the trans spacer? I would probably do 4.1 for the cost, low mileage, and warrantly reasons. Might be down on power, but Im sure it will move good still.

What does the adaptor plate go for. And the oil pan. is it a pretty shallow rear sump design? I have a feeling it would be need to be a pretty shallow design to fit in s30. I want to build for 280hp for roughly 2800lb car, so no turbos now.

My interest is peaking, I just picked up a nice 75 280z and was planning a turbo conversion of some sort, but Ive driven a few q45s and think the acceleration is awesome, I think it would make a strong setup based on reliability, american parts availability, and I guess on my side of the rock-COST. I would love to have a stick behind it, thats been the main thing holding me back on vh.

I have two or more places that I can source one from. Attarco, an engine importer/supplier locally had a 439.95 sale a while back. IF I can score one out of the junkyard it cant be more than that either. I just saw a later model version of the q freshly hauled into the yard. I would definitely love to drop a nice stockish 4.5 and a 5 speed into my 75, 280NA hp and the gears of the TT trans and a good LSD could make for some nice doriftos.
