  1. Tim, you are assuming all the fuel and oxygen you are putting in gets used up in the chamber. Misfires, partial burns, all dump "leftovers" into the exhaust side... along with your valve overlap ingredients (under the right flow conditions). In my limited experience with my car and turbos in general, I could get my turbine to glow with lean mixtures AND with rich mixtures. There was somewhere in between that resulted in a cooler turbine housing. I don't have EGT gauges but I can tell when the turbine is hot by it's color, relative to how hard I had been driving the car. Not very scientific, but valid observations. I also notice that when you put a "free flowing" exhaust system on a Z, you get popping in the exhaust system. Especially during decel.
  2. My first hunch was cam timing. My second question was what are you using for fuel delivery?
  3. Good to see you wrenching again. So far it looks super clean. Keep on going now that you got the kick start. Don't forget, that BRAAP head deserves one heck of a ride, so you got a lot of top notch work to do. I will happily wire it up the MS for you when you are ready.
  4. I want to give credit to Jason for this. I have seen many dash repairs and I have seen dash covering with leather, flocking, and cloth. This Flock job that Jason did and posted over at our site, is IMHO the best darned dash repair/mod I have ever seen. http://nyzcc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=433&start=40 Scroll Down.
  5. I got to thinking...how does a radiator shop clean radiators? That would be the process I would think about using. You might pay a visit to your local radiator shop with the carbs.
  6. 100% agree. It's mis-named. No thread jacking....shhhhh.
  7. LOL, Paul. Yeah, global warming, my A$$.
  8. Congrats! Wait 'til you drive it. You are in for a thrill.
  9. Had some photoshop fun. Can you caption this photo?
  10. Oh, the choke pistons/plungers are stuck. Sorry, misunderstood. You can try some vinegar or maybe some CLR. Both are acidic and might dissolve some of the crud. I would plan on getting new plungers anyhow, if they are corroded that badly.
  11. Went out for a walk on the lake today with my 3 year old son. We had a blast. I snapped this photo as the sun was going down. When we got home, my son tells my wife, "Mom, we got pictures of a boobie!". LOL. I had to explain the difference. Bouy, not a boobie, son.
  12. Have you tried an impact screwdriver? It's one of the coolest tools in my toolbox. Go somewhat easy with it on the Webers though. Cast aluminum is fairly brittle. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?client=opera&rls=en&q=impact+screwdriver&sourceid=opera&oe=utf-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=5026412491722993419&ei=rupES-W8DNXAlAfllLGUBw&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CBkQ8wIwAg#ps-sellers
  13. With all the money he saved on proper air bladders, he bought some nice tools.
  14. Let us know what you find. If the grooves for the retaining rings inside the OBX are not milled in the right depth, the axles might be in at the wrong depth and cause a leak, as you state. However, the sealing surface on the stub axles is pretty long, so if they are out that far, you likely have the side gears in the OBX flipped with the grooves towards the outside of the case.
  15. Rebuild them with the full rebuild kits if they are old. Sounds like your float bowls are either overflowing or running dry. Could be due to bad floats or stuck needle valves.
  16. Is this it? This is on Evilc's ZX which is for sale. http://nyzcc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=373
  17. I agree with the idea of not doing too many projects at once. However, Clive seems to have the natural ability to handle multiple, complex projects, with interweaving timelines, all on a tight budget. Signs of a good project engineer.
  18. That's the second one I have seen. FYI, Z32 Clutch forks fit our S30's and they are a bit beefier. I can't believe you did it without pulling the trans out! Nice. LOL.
  19. Just awesome! Happy New Year....even happier for Blakt Out!
  20. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The best way to get a thread like this going is to say, "Post your favorite Z other than your own". On that note, here is Clive's (EvilC's) Latest project. LS1 and full AZC billet underwear, Fully adjustable suspension, and the sickest wheels you can get...oh not to mention enough carbon to build an F1 car. All built by himself twice at a young age. Kudos. Thread resurrected.
  21. Obsession, yes, I understand. I think this website could be renamed "ObsessionZ" and not many would object. I made an "artsy" video about my Z a couple of years ago, and the film was called, "Obsession". It's on vimeo.
  22. Here is a quote that I found, which applies here: "The difference between failure and success is doing a thing nearly right and doing it exactly right." -Edward Simmons
  23. I would re-route the throttle cable which might require a linkage redesign. Call me anal, but the cable resting on the downpipe in an otherwise perfectly thought out ride, makes me itch to redesign. The sock will probably work but...I don't mean to sound like an armchair QB, but that missing detail bugs me in such a perfect car.
  24. My secret. Hammer and chisel. Put the chisel into one of the notches and angle it so it will spin the nut and whack it with the hammer. If the nut is round, make a notch with the chisel first and then change the angle of the chisel to turn the nut. Worlds most basic impact wrench.
