    So not much to upadate my Z is sitting on stands (most can understand how that feels) I am working on the brakes. need a new rear right caliper.
  5. Yes, all the S30 hoods interchange. Do some searching and look at some pics of early 240's with late 280 hoods.

  8. Ok so I have searched and read a lot of useful threads about gear ratios from the different rear ends. I know what models they come from and some general information on each. I am not an expert nor have I experienced many of the choices out there. I am looking for your opinion on gear ratios. I have most of my knowledge from these helpful threads: The sticky about general options and basic knowledge, http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=114798 The still growing list of options and the source, http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=103512 I want to know what you have (or rode in). Please list your specific details (engine tranny ect.) and..... 1. What ratio you have now? 2. What ones you have used? 3. Why you picked it? 4. What would you change? 5. Are you pleased with it? Any other USEFUL information ect. This is not to find the "BEST" but to find what your general opinion is, positive and negative, on each ratio. Please help me out here I think this will be a great tool for others and not just to answer my questions. If this thread dies how sad, but if you think its good the by all means keep the info coming!!!

  10. +1 To check for this just run the car at idle and hold your hand at the exhaust, if it feels damp you have your problem, and fix! That is if its not in the oil......

  12. Sounds like valve cover gasket....... As for the original problem, How much boost were you running?? To answer your Q, to pressurize the coolant just run the motor, (if you have ever take a radiator cap off when the engine is hot and coolant pours out...... thats how you know there is pressure.) There are also pumps you can buy that fit where your cap goes and pump up to leak test. I would say your sol. you have a few places too look that have been stated. But the HG has the biggest chance.

  14. +1 You have a good average. If you do a search you will find that your numbers are not to bad. if you had one drop to 90 then you know something is up. But I agree with M4X
  15. +1 I had that in my mind but was a little out of it when typing my first reply..... You COULD rebuild the engine in the car, if you don't mind a dead back. Also if you need any major work done it would have to come out...... I would look for a parts car to see if you can pull a running motor form the rebuild the old one.
  16. (If this is for your 76 280z, not stated) OK here are my thoughts...... 1. Bad rings. ( Im with your buddy) most likly the main problem that is causing a few others too. i.e. a few vacume leaks, 2. Bad Valve seals. could be adding to the problem, usually there is white smoke on startup that can stop or be faintly visable after the engine gets warm. The two combined are a worst case, but looks like you might have chance to rebuild.
  17. LOL I hear you....... it has been about 3 months to the last time I have done any thing to my Z (other than stealing the battery) But today I did play with my bad break cylinder, hopping to find a good one at the JY.

  19. This is what I thought! only get the tall tube ones. they have a good solid base thats removable. you could even add a ATV flag that you throw on when you park. just a thought....... I will be very careful when my Z gets back on the road. (stuck in body work Hell)

  21. +1 WOW in 12 hrs this thread has a few eyes of HBZ big dogs........(not that thats bad) I am glad he is open to the idea and that he seems very open to discussion..... As for the SR20 weight issue its still cast iron/alum head. and is around 490lbs (edit: with tranny) so its like 50lbs at most lighter than a turbo L28. It will be closer to the center of gravity as stated but not the biggest savings. Great post. Hope to see your finished product.
