I had the exact same behaviour (note: could be a totally different problem) with my first MS (v2.2, 280zxt dist, 240sx tps.) After weeks of hairpulling, I finally swapped in a friend's MS with the exact same settings, and it ran fine. Turns out that I had fried something with an unregulated power supply earlier on. My MS box seemed fine, responded correctly, everything displayed on the laptop was normal, but it wasn't working correctly. Again, your MS box might be 100% fine, but it's nice to have a spare to swap in to check.

I'm not sure this is the whole of your problem, but when you go from a 225mm flywheel (stock) to a 240mm flywheel (turbo/2+2/fidanza) you have to use the shorter throwout bearing collar (and probably the matching TO bearing) that came with the turbo/2+2 cars.

Not to discourage you from an awesome project, but BRAAP beat you to the punch. My friend in Baton Rouge now owns his 77 440Z. If it's his car you saw, let me just say...paint isn't everything. I believe they used the dodge truck 440 mounts cut down some and the truck 440 oil pan. Other than that, the thing drops right in. Good luck!

ARRGH! Don't confuse that horrible made for TV abomination with the real movie! The real Vanishing Point (1971) was freakin awesome. I'd like to throttle whoever "re-made" it. Two Lane Blacktop was a very good movie, but it's not exactly full of explosions and gunfights. If you want that, stick to MI-3 and F&F. It's an independent movie and it's one of the best "car-guy" movies I've ever seen that actually said something.

I'm pretty sure the car has an HKS plenum. It was hard to get a good look at it but what I saw looked exactly like the plenum HKS sold for the turbo triple carb setup.

S30's don't have any neutral safety switch I have ever seen. What years are you guys talking about?

That's not my page. I just wanted to show the cool diagrams that illustrate the BOV (the guy spent a lot of time on it) and that the second port was not a reference or signal port (as I see people many calling it.) It uses boost pressure to help open the valve more quickly. I have never used it on my Type-S. From the other forums I have read when I was trying to adjust mine, it sounds like it has made it harder for other people to find the sweet spot. Mine is working just fine. But it did have a tiny pressure leak around the adjustment screw. I'm not sure it was ever a problem, but I sealed it with some RTV. Best of luck.
