  1. I'm not sure, I just know my rings are going bad. It smokes on start up and then after its warm it's not as bad. I am no whiz just a thought.
  2. Great, now I want to get me a l28et again. I need to stop getting on hybridz so much. It makes me want to do so much to the z yet I can't even drive it right now. I am going to get on the fixing the rust!
  3. No, he said turbo. Turbo doesn't just bolt up. 280zxt. Your not running a turbo engine now are you? Cause the turbos you have to wire stuff. You can't run your N/A ecu. Plus, this car is a 240z. Not EFI setup, so you would have to either get a 280z one or run the 280zx one.
  4. Sorry but I have to say WRONG! How much wiring have you done before? Have you done an engine swap before? The turbo swap doesn't just drop in. Yes, the engine will bold up. You have to rewire a few things. Not very many but a few. You have to use the turbo car's engine harness. Then you have to make a down pipe and exhaust to work with it. You can make just a down pipe to work with the current exhaust if you wish. I just don't want you to think that its as easy as unbolting and bolting in. It will take a good solid day for you to swap the engine in and out if you have the tools and are doing it in a driveway. I am not saying don't do it, definitely do it. Just be careful, don't just think it will be a 123 done kind of deal. It will be frustrating and take a little more time than 2 or 3 days most likely. Wouldn't you want to repaint the engine going in? Clean the engine bay up? Paint the engine bay? Replace the steering coupler and rack bushings while you have the extra room? Just things to think about. Take your time. Make it look good, do it right.
  5. I would do it like any other body work. Hammers. Hammer it, hit it hard, obviously not to hard but hit it hard. You can work the metal to smooth it out a little better after you work the larger dent out. Pictures would help.
  6. Just is somebody already hasn't told you. That's a 280z. Its a 77 or 77. Can tell by the door panels. Tail lights, rear bumper. It's definitely not a 240z. It has the 77-78 style bumpers and door panels.
  7. I am not sure of shops in Florida or names or anything but if you just want stuff. California will have lots of it.
  8. Ok, thank you for spitting it out. I wasn't on this site when the pinks went down! I had no idea what happened. Are there videos of the race anywhere? Can't seem to find any.
  9. Yea, noticed that, didn't know if I wanted to say anything after wards. Seems pretty screwed up! Somehow that's how I saw it coming out when people were buying 20 tickets at a time at what, almost $30 a pop.
  10. I think the heads have heaps to do with it. To be honest, making 400hp with a stock engine and cam from a l28et, which has been done, or been close. That is already an amazing thing. Making 400 without even having forced induction is nuts! Then I think about it again, why not look at how v8 guys do it? Yes, displacement, I am sure the saying is on here some where but it goes "There is no replacement for displacement". The car those mufflers I posted on here were on a 355 with roller rockers and unknown bottom end that makes around the 600hp range. I still think we are just way over thinking it here. Plus you have to remember. This site has been around 10 years, how long have the cars been around? 30+ and they have been modifying them in Japan probably since day one before the Japanese tuning scene EVER hit the USA! They put l28's in R32 Skylines over there for drag racing. They have years and YEARS of work and experience into these cars and engines. I think what we are doing right here is what they did. Which gives you another reason to make the cam if you still think it may be different (I think it is!). You got the specs by doing the research, maybe this privileges you to buy the cam? Like we all know you can't make power without money. As for me saying parts in Japan are cheap. Maybe its not the parts just the car but I was rolling in a GTV AE101 Levin that was purchased for $100. We had a Honda Legend too, power seats front and REAR! Heated seats all the way around. Super clean luxo status, $1,500! Car's in general seemed much cheaper. Compared to the price for the same parts over here things are much cheaper. Plus there are other sites and communities around that sell parts, yes used but used doesn't mean its junk for cheap. I won't mention the name of the one I am thinking of here. The creator is on this site but it's kinda an exclusive site, they make it hard to get into. Not because you aren't privileged but for other reasons and keeping certain people out. If you live in oki you know what site I am talking about.
  11. This thread has kept me up till 1:30 and I have school tomorrow then work after words. I think you should get your cam made and let us know how everything goes. It sounds like anybody with the knowledge could manage to get one of these cam's made for themselves. The way they do the welding and stuff is amazing. Still makes me wonder if I could manage weld a FranKAnstein head.
  12. If you have pictures, by all means post them. This car looks to be a major sleeper!
  13. Do a transmission upgrade while your at it? I know its a lot of money but if you have the money (not saying you do) then you might as well get the turbo 300zx upgrade right?
  14. Well, I just added up the most expensive parts they had to build an engine, still no water pump, but have a gear set for the trans and the rear end clutch, flywheel, pistons, rods, crank, oil pump, pully kit, head, cam gear, all of that good stuff. For basically not even a full race engine build, lacking only a few things. Your tally comes to about $24,000 before you get into intake manifolds, distributors or edis, exhausts, turbos or whatever you plan on doing. I might have left out the head gasket but I think that head comes with one. I bet you could get some serious power out of it but you would need a different clutch. The ones they sell are max of 400hp. I am super curious now though, how are they doing this. Do they really have this much $$ in their engines? Car stuff is cheap in japan I know this I lived there for a year, but not $10,000 cheaper! Oh, my quotes are without shipping and everything of course. Just from the prices listed on the site.
  15. We are just way overlooking it all. Here is your answer. Just browse their site. They have it all. Even a forged 3.2L stroker (85mm) crank. Almost 5g's for a head setup! http://www.kameariusa.com/L6_SPLCylinderHeadUpgrade.php
  16. Throwout bearing. Yours must be locked up. You could engage but the pressure plate is bolted to the flywheel. If the bearing is locked it would cause havoc. Just an idea, thinking about that it doesn't really make since the bearing isn't connected to your input shaft. Probably just time for a new clutch, 2 years with a z, how do you drive? Aggressive? If you drive like I drive it's probably time anyway.
  17. Well, I was thinking about this. We run velocity stacks on our intakes to increase the incoming air velocity. The same concept should work on exhaust, if you make it get smaller like that then it should increase the velocity, doing this at the very end then making it run back to a larger exit more quickly should keep the velocity high until the gasses actually exit the exhaust. The way the header works is as the exhaust comes into the collector the way all the pipes run together cause the exhaust to cyclone, which should in turn also increase the velocity. My dad designed some mufflers for his sprint car that were just 2 pieces of semi stacks or something with 3 inches in and outs that only had 2 plates inside them with slots cut and then they were bend to have the "Cyclone" effect on the exhaust. This was an attempt to increase exhaust flow. I will take a picture so you can see. They are kind of a crude design and were make a while back. I was surprised at how much quieter the made and open header v8 just welded to the headers. I can not say as to if they did any good or not. Exhaust is a big deal for low end torque as I am sure most of you know. Keep up the posting, very interesting reading. I will definitely keep up with this! EDIT: Picture of the muffler. It's like maybe a 4 inch with 3 inch or something. I will measure later. They were run on a 355 powered dirt sprint car. Just one of my dad's ideas, seems to have lots of them! EDIT #2: Just adding another picture, the cone in this one posted above looks to have slots in it. Something to look at and think about.
  18. I request more pictures of you car! By the SIG is looks nice. I like the spoiler, I see those that I like and I don't like, the 3 pieces ones that is. Is it a 240z or a 280z with 240z air dam? Look's pretty clean. Man I need to start buying parts, but I don't want that money I have in the bank to go poof before I have floors in the car! I want an air dam, and a l28et, I was gonna buy one this weekend but the guy already sold it! I don't have floors yet I am trying to buy parts to make the car look better and go faster! Who needs floors? Just extra weight RIGHT? I stripped out the a/c plugs just because they are not needed! I have my entire harness apart still in the car just to take out wires I don't need. Plus on the daily I get told I have a problem when every time I see a z I want it. I saw a 280zx on TV today and was like HEY LOOK! A ZZZZ!!! This is normal, Right?
  19. Sounds good to me, just a great find, not sure if you noticed but you got yourself a series one. Is it a 1970 or an early 71?
  20. Looks like a good find. Heads up add a location, they are liking to ban people for that. If you decide to rid of it, message me, I would probably buy it! Looks more solid than mine from whats pictures, but we all know first gen. z's ALWAYS look better in the pictures.
  21. Looking at the bills that's some serious $$$ Into that engine. I am sure whatever the reserve is would probably be fair. I read the raffle thread not exactly sure what happened. Don't think anybody want's to explain. From what I can tell it looks like whoever won the engine got it.
  22. I won't argue with you because you know more about what your talking about than I do. I guess if you do it right then. I just have never been a fan of bolt in cages/bars. They seem cheap and sketchy to me. I don't understand how you skimp on safety because its "To hard" or "to Difficult". If it means your life, and saving it, nothing is to hard. Well, maybe dodging a bullet.
  23. L28et, easy enough. Honestly though, I would just go for the RB or SR, if you get busted to bad. No point in not having your fun, you only live once. Maybe keep a spare l28 and wiring on the side if you must swap back and do a quick swap back. That or figure out this 400hp N/A l28 with triples and your set. All I know is if I lived in California I would have a 240z and not a 280z.
  24. You can swap an engine and get it BAR legal. I think this is what Johnc was posting above me. It's it can be done, it will be done again and many more time's I am sure. If you have a 70-74z it will not have the smog equipment and the standards should be lower from what I understand. Non California 75 and 76 car's do not have the smog equipment. I know one an ae86 getting the 4agze swap bar legal running the US market MR2 computer with the argument that the engine is the same that came in his car essentially. They gave him issues because the engine was not originally the same format in the mr2. If there are things I am wrong about here somebody please correct me, I will edit this post. I am just putting in my understanding. I have not lived in California and do not know every law nor have I read any of the BAR or smog stuff.
