I would think that ammount of power with a completely stock turbo setup pretty much is possible. Add and inter cooler and MS2. Up the boost from the I think 7PSI stock to like 14 or 15 and that should be easily had.

1977 280z Daily Driven Project

HAHAHAHA! Drive the tundra in that, its a PITA driving in that, I almost got stuck, had no traction spun all the way to 4th when it finally decided to start moving forward. 5+ inches after I got to school. Everything is frozen now, big chunks of ice. That's all the roads are. -

S30/RB20 swap motor mounts
ModernS30 replied to ShorkyFairladyZ's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
haha, I can crank for like 40 seconds before the fuel injection will give enough gas to fire up in the cold... Cant wait to take off the cold start and emissions. The stock 280z fuel injection is rudimentary and kinda sucks! But an RB is different. Coil packs and its been more developed. I bet the RB swap is cheaper and makes easily the same power as a 3.0 stroker. as far as I know an LD28 crank, 240z rods, and 280z forged pistons and you have a 3.1? -
S30/RB20 swap motor mounts

THAT'S GREAT! Glad to see people have their family involved, great thing for father son bonding too. I love working on cars, it can get very frustrating but I just love it. I always have, I love the sound, I love the smell, hot burning rubber and methanol is the best smell ever. Mix in a little bit of dirt flying through the air and you got a great dirt track race going on! I am a firm believer in the best way to learn is to do, you can ask as many questions as you want, read as much as you want, no question it will help but getting in there and going for it will help you learn a lot. Making mistakes is the same way, just like learning to drive, go to a track or an empty parking lot with minimal to no poles to hit, spin out a few times. You will get better. EXPERIENCE -
S30/RB20 swap motor mounts
ModernS30 replied to ShorkyFairladyZ's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Ok, sounds like you are on the right track. I am only 17, but I do have a job, I have experience working on car. I know your thinking how much experience can you have if your only 17 but I have been working on cars since I was like 12 or 13. My dad has had a sprint car since I was 10 and I have helped him with it since he had it pretty much. I haven't done an engine swap before but I have learned A LOT on almost every swap possible. I will be doing either an RB, SR, or L28et swap sometimes within the next year if I ever stop spending my money on crap I don't need IE a seat and other crap I don't need. -
I think what johnc here and the other great admins are getting at here are. Stop the arguments, if you are going to get a header made, do it and get them made, then sell them. If not close the threads and stop discussing it. I think that the 1,000 price sounds fair and should work fine for anybody willing to spend that with most turbo. I mean we have seen many people running a gt35r on a stock mani. Which is by no means small and you really don't need anything bigger than it single turbo otherwise lag will suck. I already have an infaction and have learned the admins don't mess around here so I would advise listening to them and keeping your actions, and words, wise and polite.

S30/RB20 swap motor mounts
ModernS30 replied to ShorkyFairladyZ's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
They are not the same. Auto transmission is larger. 240z mounts are different. there are 3 different types of mounts as far as I know for the cars, the ears are different from 70-78 but I am not sure on the differences. Oh and sorry for the thread jack but I guess there were others curious about some things as well. If you don't know enough about your stock z yet get to know the z before attempting a swap. I am not sure how old you are or how much experience with cars you have. Keep in mind I am not saying you won't be able to do it or anything, I am just saying do your research, there is more information on here than you think. There is like 9 years + info on here I believe. It would take over a entire week to read everything, then reread it to make sure you read it right so you are sure you are doing it right. Not to mention all the other z car sites and nissan sites and car sites period there are will information on stuff. -
Just finished s13 coilovers into s30

That is not the idea here though. I would not be just putting the 240z tubes and 240z struts in. I would be using just the lower inch or so. I searched, don't get me wrong not trying to say you are wrong or say I don't want to listen to you because I am all knowing. I will listen to all advice and search some more things before I do this. If you are doing the coil over install. Then you should be able to adjust the height anyways to level out this issue. Does what I am saying make sense? The lower portions are the same basic deal. The overall length is shorter on a 240z and the 240z tubes are thinner. From what I understand its the 240z's shorter strut tubes that cause this droop. Eliminating the tubes and just adding the coil overs should make it work the same as if you were using a 280z lower portion and making the bore on the coil over larger. I am going to guess the 240z part is weaker because it is smaller. Which also would mean lighter but probably not enough to really count for anything unless you are building a serious race car. I hope what I said makes some sort of sense. I have tried to think about this. I actually spent like 2 hours searching everything. I wasn't even sure the 240z parts would bolt on a 280z. I could see you fitting the extra 1/8th inch in if you had a hydraulic press and did it very slowly. Then you would be leaving the potential for over stress on certain parts and possible cracking or improper fit. Welding would still be required obviously. -

Yep, I will do this, the parts will probably be cheaper than having the tubes machined. This will be done before summers end. I still have to fix my rust at least on the floors and bottom before I do any suspension work. I want to only take it all off once. I am going to primer the underside with a high quality primer and a rust stopper after that then I am going to bed line the underside of my car. -

Has anybody confirmed or denied how well this will work on the 280z? I believe I Can get 240z perches and they will fit just fine on the 280z without modification, its fitting the 280z ones into a 240z that is a problem. Is this correct? I will be doing this one way or another. When I do it I will be making a good right up, it is a must. -
Why the huge cut-out in the rear? Is that a firebird spoiler? I can get one for free if it is meaning if it is you'd better splain how you put it on there!

Get all your chrome trim powder coated. It looks great, seen it done on a few cars, I love the look. That and maybe your wheels. Free rocks! I am sure I missed it somewhere. What do you have planned for brakes? Going to do the Toyota 4 Pistons up front? Disk rear? AZC? Just something I thought about. -

Its got style, what can be said. All the cars on this site are motivation, and yes that means even yours two80z4me, I like the cut spring look but I still don't want to cut mine. But we have the same wheels! haha, I bet I had them first though, how long have you had your 280z? I had them like almost 2 years ago now. -

Well guys, I just sent the payment for the APC seat that came up for sale on here but the payment said it won't clear till the 8th! Can't wait to get my new seat though, should be a big difference for my comfort and safety being its more of a "racing style" seat. Mounting shouldn't be to hard as it has rails on it I will just need to make a couple brackets. -

Good stuff good stuff, is it in yet? haha I'm just kidding. At least you are making some progress, what you need is another z fanatic in Portales to get on you about working on the car, don't be afraid of the cold, I work on my car like 24/7 even if its just like something small. I am about to put a small bit more silicone on the fuel injector because its still leaking and I still cant afford new ones. I am just about to spend my 90 bucks I have till Friday when I get paid on a seat, because I want a decent, more comfy seat. Lazy, Just plain lazy Justin. haha. I hope I don't make you mad with this, mount kit looks fantastic by the way. Glad to see things coming together. -
I didn't figure so. Get a price out and that should get business. It looks like its good quality and its got to flow better than the stock one.

Swap it over, it can't hurt so long as the u-joints are good. I am not sure if they are replaceable in the stub axle but if they are, replace them just because you can. Also are you going to weld the r200 or get a LSD? or does a 1 wheel peel not bother you much? I think it would be cooler/more fun to have a welded one or an LSD. Welding it would be cheap and you could do it at school no problem. -
