  1. ok, just as long as you know it will take more work than just buying those parts for your car. I almost made that mistake before. Buy a donor 280zxt, best choice if you are doing the swap. I plan to later down the road, rust matters more than speed to me.
  2. Dude, hotboxin' it with primer, crack that door and put a box fan under it so you aren't stoned when you go back inside, I can see the paint floating around in there.
  3. Sure have, I wrote a write up to avoid this but it hasn't been posted on the FAQ because either the admins disapproved it (would make me sad I wrote it for this reason) for they haven't gotten to it yet. The blue green one on that little block on top with the 4 wires? Go from the White/RedStripe to the blue green, NOTE! Switch MUST be on and you should get it to work. If not leave the switch on and experiment with the different combo's, should be like 16? Also, to confirm it just being you switch try to just use another switch that is known working. I am pretty certain it is the box. Happened to me, first time I tried it the jumper didn't work, went back when it happened again and messed with it and it started to work again. If you need more help or would Like pictures I will provide, and actually, screw it, I will post the pictures I have. This one should help!
  4. If your looking for light you go with custom one off wheels or something like CCW. Or you can just go with steelies and then band them to widen them, problem is playing with the offset when you do that. I am a fan of CCW classics, look good on a Z and they are light, plus you can get them in like a ton of sizes for one flat price. I think the race versions are like 2200 for a set of 4 up to 18" and like 16 inches wide. Something crazy like that. I should go check.
  5. Haha, I wasn't flaming or anything. I just think you should word it different. From what I have learned, it doesn't matter what the kids at school think, hell, I drive a stock beat up 280z, first day I drove it everybody said how cool it was except the all American freaks. I just hate seeing the cars that you can tell mommy and daddy paid for (no offense Justin) there is a guy at my school with a Avalanche running 24's that are painted to match the truck and its all pimped out and crap. Its ridiculous, there are 3 high schoolers with high end Mercedes. One of them is even a Kompressor coupe. There are a few with BMW's (granted I drove a BMW but it was a 1972 that I got running after sitting for 5+ years.) I honestly like the way Diamond racing look because they give you more of a "race car" feel to the look, just running lightweight sorta nascar style steelies.
  6. Not even close. Your missing a turbo ECU and wiring, turbo dizzy, boost control. Oil pan, oil lines, catch can afm/maf and alot of other stuff I am sure I am missing. Remember Two80z4me you have a efi car, this is a blow thru setup.
  7. Sorry tell you this but you bought a car for a COUPLE thousand, that didn't have a engine? Your better off getting a new car looking at that rail unless you are a good welder or want to spend a couple more thousand paying somebody. That will be 2,000 plus dollars just for the labor with no parts from what I can tell.
  8. The on the dyno picture on page 15 is now my Desktop =P
  9. BOOGITY! I want to actually work on my car, But what I need to do I need a welder and cutting tools, damn floor boards, had to find more rust. I need your wire wheel and air drill Justin.
  10. No I did not, see, the ones that come with the car, you have to push down, the ones I am talking about are the ones that you can pull out from the top. and reuse. I meant similar to these but its not a screw, its like a button that goes in how the screw did. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/10-Toyota-Interior-Trim-Push-Type-Clips-Echo-Scion_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5d24e60a6cQQitemZ400051014252QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories There are the stock type pins http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/15-Honda-Interior-Trim-Push-Type-Clips-91550-S50-000ZL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5d25e7a03bQQitemZ400067895355QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  11. Go to auto zone and get the more modern style plastic interior clips. They are little deals with a hole in them and they spread out when you put the little peg pin deals that go in and they will hold the on. will go right into the stock location. =P Can't believe you hadn't figured this out. But Interior is overrated. Its a V8 powered sports car, interior just limits the ability to here the car make lovely sounds.
  12. Really? First there are fusible links, under that is a external voltage regulator for you alternator. you need both, you can replace the fusible links with MAXI-Fuse (ideal) and then you can replace your alternator with a 240sx one or a 280zx or zxt (I used the ZXT 70 amp internal regulator) If you do a bit of searching you will learn alot.
  13. Flares, do it, its a car, yes they don't make them anymore, how many are crashed already how many will be crashed? A lot of them, honestly if you like the look, do it, If I had a 69 build date car I would still flare it, some people would hate me for it. I wouldn't really care cause it would be my car.
  14. I am 17 now since November 4th. Originally I found my z on the quest to find a "Drift car" I found a Subaru that I really liked, we bought that car and it was a ton of fun. My brother then took that car with him to college and I had still been looking for something RWD and manual. Well, my moms boyfriend has a friend that had a 76 280z, I looked it up and said ok sure 500 bucks. This was my x-mas gift and boy after I found this site and search a lot I was super excited. I was ready to do all kinds of different swaps. I wanted an L28et and SR20 and an RB all at the same time, still do, wish I could have 3 cars, really 4 because I want a 2jz one too. I got that car that was supposed to be running, it wasn't. Found alot of bondo and glass on the floors and quarters. Car was a rust bucket I got it to start on starter fluid but the fuel system was clogged. A few might remember me parting that car on here a while ago. I search and searched because by then I just had to have a Z. I finally found the one I have not, 1977 280z, yes its got rust, is it as bad as the other car? So far no, the floors have turned out worse than I thought but so far I am still in the O.K. range. I got the car from working, I had a truck that was purchased for 450 as a DD that the clutch blew out, I used money from parting the other car to fix that and sold the truck for only 550 because it had wiring issues. Then I just recently finished paying my mom off for the money I had borrowed to spend 1300 on this 280z. It's a really bad addiction with more to come in the future.
  15. That's what I thought, may I have info on the mod's done to the car? Especially the steering mods, I thought these cars didn't have enough lock to get good enough angle. I know I have gotten sideways before but I can't hold anything since I do a 1 wheel peel and the Ebrake is crap so that's not a means of sideways. I can only destroy my clutch to stay sideways
  16. Yea, pretty much, sounds kinda ghetto now that I think of it... Well, maybe I should just buy a non egr manifold and take my time doing it right, or maybe I should just stick with what I have for now and fix my rust first. The later or those two sounds like a better plan.
  17. True, or I could just buy a 75-76 non cali car intake. Then just plug the rest of the holes and grind off the ends of the bolts. Paint, done. I am more worried about what I found on my floor right now. Hopefully Sunday will be a day for repair for my poor z. I at least need to re-enforce the rear seat mount on the drivers side. That way I don't go flying out if I get hit/hit somebody.
  18. You forgot a Blue Viper I fixed it. Edit: crap, I left out 3 street bikes as well.
  19. So guys, I am a little ticked. I pulled the drivers side carpet. Found some more rust, stuff you cant see under the car partially because the rail covered it (rail seems fine will know more after I get farther into repairing it) and mostly because some jagoff decided to just use like 2 or 3 spot welds, like nice welds, just an inch long and then random screws and bolts and then pop rivets to put a patch on, then seal it up with undercoating without cleaning any of the old rust, and I'm sure most of you know how it goes after that. Car is that way 10 years later, along comes me. I buy the car, I take out the carpet, and i frown.
  20. Check out the rocky auto link I posted in non-tech, they have a 432 and all kinds of other nice z's.
  21. I like the way those look alot! They fit great too, I agree now, get some centerlines, powder coat them flat black and then your good. The only problem with matte or flat black wheels come up for guys like me that mount the tires up and stuff. They scratch to easy. Justin, MOAR PICS!
