  1. While I have no personal experience here, I did hear a guy recently say that the spot welds that hold the strut tube to the spindle at the bottom can get knocked loose and tweaked which causes a big change in camber. He also said that he had fixed them by realigning and rewelding the tube in place. If you look at the suspension components you should be able to see a bent control arm. I don't think that's your problem though, because a bent control arm wouldn't bend out, so I think a bent control arm would be more likely to reduce the neg camber. Bent struts are also possible, not sure if you could see that problem visually. Seems like it would be really hard on the strut though, so I'd expect to see some leakage around the top of the strut if that were the case.
  2. Here are new pics of the rust repair. Today was the first chance I had to open it up. Looks a little worse inside than it did outside. Lots of rust between the panels in there, which kind of makes me think I'll NEVER get to it all. Also the fender lip where there are two sheets folded over and spot welded is really rusty although it hasn't started bubbling anywhere yet. I don't think I can get any rust treatment stuff into that area. I think the only way to fix is to flare the car and cut the lip off entirely. I guess the good news is that the rockers are really clean aside from some spiderwebs. Any suggestions of how to deal with the rust between the panels? Should I just keep cutting until I expose all of it? I really don't want to cut the stuff in the door jamb area, and I think that I can spray that seam in front from both sides and take care of it, but some of the other areas in there are not that easy to get to. What about rebuilding the end of the rocker panel? Does it need that curved end like it had originally for strength, or can I just maybe weld a plate on the end and call it good? Any other tips or hints appreciated. Here's some pics:
  3. My State Farm insurance had no mileage restriction and was not terribly expensive, I think it was about the same as my wife's Nissan Sentra. Since I haven't been driving it at all, I looked into classic car insurance and decided that was a better deal. Still the same coverage but now I have 3000 miles annually to drive the car, and the cost was ~$130 per year.
  4. Am I missing something? I thought a Vespa was an Italian scooter that people like to hop up and race...
  5. You don't have to notify the gov't. The business will stop reporting your income and taxes to them, and that's it. Sounds like you're planning a mass exodus. Good luck with that.
  6. No offense to Mr WOT, but in my neck of the woods the Schucks (Kragen) is COMPLETELY useless. Napa is actually a large step up from Schucks, but of course the closest Napa is across town and there is a Schucks on every corner. Sparky, your problem was with one guy, not NAPA as a whole. At least that's the way I would look at it if I were you.
  7. The 8.5 is the number on the mechanical advance arm. It is only for the mech advance, and not for the vacuum advance. 2 x distributor rotation = crank rotation, so 8.5 x 2 = 17 degrees mechanical advance. I wouldn't run the vacuum advance in a hipo application.
  8. You can usually buy back the salvage for 10% of what they give you. So if they do give you $10K you can buy back the car for $1000. Somehow I don't think you're going to get $10K for it. Insurance companies are real dicks when it comes to this. You need to have a stated agreed value before hand. I had an appraisal done on my car and that was sent to the underwriters when they wrote my policy. I hope I'm wrong, but I think you're going to fight all the way to get $10K. As far as fixing the car I think it's possible, but not going to be easy. Might be easiest just to replace the frame rail then cut the area from the rad support forward off of another car and weld it onto yours. You're going to have to really inspect the damage to know for sure. Definitely buy back the salvage though. Even if you decide that the car is toast, that car has enough cool stuff on it to sell to vultures like me to make it worth it...
  9. Sounds to me like if anyone was to blame it was the New York Times. I think all of these investigative reporters need to know what to report and what not to report. But they don't take that into consideration because they want the "big story" and they don't care what the consequences are when they get it. Kind of similar to outing the CIA agent in a way. They could have kept that info under their hat, but no. Instead they go and put it out on the front page. Who's fault was that again? The Bush administrations, right Phil? I personally love it when I see a story that says: "Look how vulnerable xxx is. All the terrorists would have to do is use xxx and they could kill thousands in one fell swoop". Responsible journalism there. Sure, Bush could have NOT told us there was a terror threat, and then if something happened what would you have thought? Obviously not "I'm so glad Bush didn't raise the terror threat" I'm guessing. No, it would have been "Bush knew that he wouldn't be able to stop all the terrorists, but he cares more about catching them than saving us" or some other crap. Seems to me that your hatred for Bush overrides EVERYTHING else. The guy could fart Twinkies and you'd complain because you like Cup Cakes. He can't do ANYTHING right in your eyes, and it's pretty pointless arguing anything with someone so closed minded.
  10. You have to use a little common sense when you're looking. How many 280ZX's do you see on the street. How many race 280ZX's have you seen lately, outside of hybridz? I have NEVER seen a 280ZX on a racetrack in person. I've seen pictures of the Electromotive one and a couple pics in other books and magazines and pics here of Afshin's car and a couple others, but the 280ZX is not a popular car to be modding. There are certainly a bunch of cool ZX's here, but when you're selling parts there aren't many ZX owners to sell to. Look for the cars that ARE popular. The early Z's would certainly be more popular as would the 240SX and 300ZX. An R200 is an R200, with the exception of the short nose ones that came around in the 90+ cars anyway. Yes. No, I was referring to what diffs are available in 1 way, 1.5 way, or 2 way. I literally went to Google, typed in "KAAZ 240SX 1 way 1.5 way 2 way" and searched and found all the info on the KAAZ. Then I did the same with Cusco.
  11. Wasn't there one 5 or 6 years ago from JUN that put out over 1000 hp? Went for the land speed record IIRC. Ah, here it is: http://www.junauto.co.jp/processing/rb26. According to JUN, over 1000ps. 1000ps = 986hp. I did a quick search, and found this page where they show a Skyline that supposedly puts down 1300 hp, along with one that puts out 890 supposedly, and the 1000 ps JUN. Even if these numbers are accurate (???) you still have to take into consideration how to get all that power to the ground. But I think it's pretty clear that you can get more from the RB than the L. Whether you can actually use that kind of power... that's another story.
  12. I used to have my MSD hooked up with the module, then I realized that there is no reason to so I removed the module from the circuit. I ran it that way for a couple years, no damage to the module at all. I imagine that it would be the same with the Crane. Since there is no reason to run the module, don't. It's just one more part that can fail. When I worked as a Porsche mechanic Magnacors were the only wires we used on our customers' cars.
  13. So did your friend give up yet or did he figure out what was wrong?
  14. If the manufacture date is 9/82 or later you have an 83. Your other question has been answered within the last week on another thread, and I personally have posted pictures of the cam and the housing on another thread, I think they're still in my gallery. The Nissan unit is a 2 way. I was also able to Google all of the manufacturers' names and find out what they offered within 5 minutes, with the exception of the Quaife. The Quaife is a geared unit, so it really isn't described in a 1 way, 1.5 way or 2 way designation. It really acts like a 1 way as far as I could tell with the model I used to have on my desk at a previous job.
  15. If Rove leaked the info and Bush doesn't fire him, that would be insanely hypocritical. I seem to remember Bush going on a tirade about leaking info right around the start of the war in Iraq. If there is any doubt, his security clearance should be revoked ASAP. I wouldn't fire him based on a newspaper article, and I haven't been following this one closely enough to pronounce judgement on Rove, but if the allegations are true he should be dealt with severely IMO.
