I had the same problem on my z. First next time it starts to miss wiggle the wires back and forth. If it goes away then you will need to buy new connectors and cut and splice your wiring harness. If that doesn't help and it only goes away when you remove and insert then use some di-electric grease. It is used for electric connectors for this such problem. You can find it at most auto parts stores.

From what I have read all the isky cams are custom to what the customer wants. And you get a custom cam designed for your car for about $10 more than a pre-made one shoe fits all cam from msa. Also I've read the schneider cams are using older designs and grinds then isky does. I did a search on isky cams and turbo cams and found alot of reading material to keep me busy for awhile.

OEM electric fans for L6 Turbo?? help please..
Thumper replied to 260ZRED's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Only time you need a fan is at low cruising speed (less than 30) and while stopped. After that the wind is hitting all of the radiator and pushing more air than any fan could. If you are overheating at 60-70mph I would check coolant mixture. I run usually 30/70 30%coolant, 70%water If you still have a problem then its most likely a bad thermostat or your radiator is blocked or not big enough to support your engine. The electric fan makes a large difference in being able to rev the engine. Think of underdrive pulleys. Most of the power you feel from underdrive pulleys is just because they are lighter than stock. So when you remove a 10lb fan that also gives it alot of air resistance from the water pump pulley you are effectively giveing it lighter pulleys and less drag on the engine at higher rpms. Also similar to how a lightweight flywheel works. Olie and I just swapped a electric fan over to his 280z and he noticed a huge difference. Good luck -
Good advice, cause my girlfriend would be upset if I lost those. I might just have to give that a try. Did you put the clay on the grinder and then rub it on water pulley or vice versa clay on pulley and then rub the pulley. Thanks

If you are going to keep the boost under 18psi the stock turbo pistons should be good. Only problem is putting a piston machined for another block into your block. I would recommend custom pistons to take full advantage of your setup.

Looks good. How did you polish the water pump?

tire selections help please
Thumper replied to DAT240Z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Looks like your going to be stuck with 205/60 good tires, 215/60 halfway decent tires, or drag radials. Bfgoodrich makes three sizes for 14" 205/50, 215/60, 225/45 All are recommended fora 7" rim. -
Here are three good su tuning websites. http://www.zparts.com/zptech/articles/mal_land/ml_sucarb2/images4/SUcarb_111601d.htm http://www.jetlink.net/~okayfine/sutech.html http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=82067&highlight=carb+tune Good luck

Just removed my clutch from my fidanza flywheel. It only had 6 bolts on it also. Should be just fine that way.

Most of your problems point to being too rich. I would first check your float bowls and fuel pressure. If those are good try leaning half to a full turn at a time. If your float bowls all alittle off you might even have to fully tighten/lean the adjustment nut. If you want to be sure you have the air/fuel ratio I would recommend a colortune. Its basically a spark plug with a window so that you can see the combustion chamber flame. The upper rpm studder sounds more like ignition then fuel. First try a set colder in spark plugs. 6's vs 5's. 6's are what is recommended from factory now anyways. Then check wires, cap, and rotor. Good luck

I 2nd magnecore wires. Have run them on most of my cars and never had a problem. I have been running them on z for six months and thats with a ms6al and blaster 2 coil putting higher than stock stress on them. Ted

Damnit I thought we had it far enough away from the window. Plus with the tarp and how we had it leaning it shouldn't have hit. Oh well should have know. Good luck with the turbo build up and don't hesitate to call if you need help. Ted

Wow $600:shock: At first I thought u meant $6000 Great buy on his behalf. I guess the saying "A sucker born every minute" holds true here. I would dyno it just to make sure the engine is in healthy condition and get a baseline run before the mods.

OEM electric fans for L6 Turbo?? help please..
Thumper replied to 260ZRED's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
I have always run hayden slim-line cooling fans. They can be bought at the local parts store and I get a discount there. When I first bought them I looked up ther cfm it is comparable to most aftermarket fans. I ran just one 12" on the ghetto beast and never had overheating problems. I now have two 12" fans setup as pullers and one 14" fan pushing on the 260z. I have to get rid of the 14" because there is no room for my intercooler infront of the a/c condesor. The fans are $65 new for the 14" and $55 for the 12". You can also buy a thermostat switch for them for $30. -
Sound clip of the Z with open headers

Not to self don't drive next to wheelman with window down:twisted: Sounds good at idle. How does it sound at speed? -
No really at 18psi I was able to run .050" but didn't want to push it so I backed it down to .043" This was with -11 ngks. Depending on what spark plugs you get that can make a big difference also. Also he is running a blaster 2 coil, and aftermarket ignition wires so that helps.

I would take the battery terminals off and clean them real well and put them down and tighten them. If that doesn't work jump the two terminals on your starter to see if it works. If it does then connect a 12+ source to the little terminal on you solenoid. If all that works then it might be fuse, fusible link, or ignition switch. Good luck

One problem I see with this is if you are using the stock efi it will let air that went through the air flor meter out and your car would run rich during this time. Also it would have to be an electronic blow-off valve because all bov's that I have seen run off the difference in pressure and vacuum between the tb. Also it sounds like the turbo would be rotating at the fastest speed it could vs being limited at 15psi and spinning at a slower speed. So I would guess the turbo would wear out much quicker. Other than those it sounds like a good idea if you are running an aftermarket ecu, can rig up the bov to vent at certain positive pressure, and either you don't car about longevity of turbo or you can find a way to limit its rotational speed.
-
I would check the resistance of the spark plug wires and check the condition of the distributor cap and rotor. Sounds like the you weren't getting enough power at the spark plug. It could be caused from a weak ignition coil but usually they go bad because having alot of resistance down the line. If everything seems to be ok and in specs then you have fixed the problem. Just out of curiousity what gap are you running. At anything less then 12psi you should be able to run .040" with the msd coil. With the msd 6al and blaster 2 coil I ran .043 at 18psi. Good luck

Welcome to hybridz:twisted: I have owned both a high compression carb motor (no stroker though) and a turbo z. From my experiences if you want 250hp+ it is cheaper to go the turbo route. My carb motor had about $1400 into it (could have been done cheaper) and it probably had 170-180hp. My turbo motor I put $1500 into it and it made 280hp and 400lb-tq. But if you want that sweet n/a sound and smooth powerband then carb is better. Here are three very helpful websites that will help you will your decision. Happy wrenching:twisted: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/ http://www.geocities.com/row4navy/ http://geocities.com/zgarage2001/

Very Nice ZX Turbo on eBay..but Seller Knows very little!
Thumper replied to slownrusty's topic in Non Tech Board
My guess is he meant the block was overbored .040" making it 0.5L larger. The CF II Is a halfway decent clutch. I had it in my sentra for about 1 yr of constant drag racing and car was putting out 250hp. About the lsd I have no earthy idea. Maybe just maybe he put a 3.545 rearend together with a 3.7 lsd, but more than likely it is just he 3.545. My 3.545 in my 280zx did like to spin both tires exiting out of a corner so maybe that is why he thinks it is a lsd. Good luck bidding nice looking car. -
Here is a link that has gear ratio calculator with all the z's transmissions built into it. http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/transmission.html
