  1. The n42 head is from a 75 280z efi engine. It will bolt right up to your block but it has a smaller combustion chamber so you compression ratio will be higher so you will see about a 10-15 hp gain from just putting this on. For more explanation about this and lots of other usefull info look at these two webpages. Welcome to hybridz This link has lots of info on different engine heads for the your engine. Also lots of other useful info. http://geocities.com/zgarage2001/ This link has lots of misc info about heads and performance work. http://www.geocities.com/row4navy/head2.html
  2. I think the big problem with no side mirrors is not the getting pulled over part but passing inspection. In order to pass the safety inspection you must have a two mirrors. So just duct tape/super glue it on for the inspection and then remove it afterwards. But then again if the cop wants to be picky then you can get ticketed for it.
  3. In Tx, you have have two mirrors as a minium also. Exactly what Tim said. I believe that is how it is in most states.
  4. Actually I don't think its entirely your efi problem. More like you injectors can't keep up. I had pinging at 13psi on ghettto beast intill I upgraded the injectors then I ran it up to 18-20 psi with no pinging on the stock efi. About the knock sensor I have ran with it disconnected. What ecu are you running. On a 82 ecu stock timing is 20 so 27 is kindof up there. I had a 83 ecu so when I ran 27 degrees it was only 3 advanced. Personally I would try to retard timing 3 degrees and then see if it fixes it. If not then upgrade the injectors.
  5. I ran my my 83' 280zx n/a with a stock header no cat with a high-flow muffler for about 5 months. It had a drone on the highway but other than that it was manageable. It sounded real good. But then again I'm use to loud cars:twisted: I think as long as you run a muffler it won't be "too" loud.
  6. I am trying to clean out the garage and get my turbo motor in the car. All of these have pricing and other info on zcar.com Thanks for your time. 7. Olie, on my z when I installed my coil and msd 6al there was a very noticeable difference. Actually on all 6 cars I have installed the msd on I have felt a big difference. I know you said just the coil but I have always installed the msd with the coil at the same time so i'm not sure on just the coil.
  8. I think the only differences in our cars is I have a light weight flywheel, e88 head vs your n42, and I have 225/60 bfgoodrich on my turbo rims. also I have a msd 6al, and a mallory unilit dist. But everything else is the same.... Umm nevermind not much left Should be a good battle never the less.
  9. Well I bet it couldn't beat how long it too me too change my valve cover gasket. I started it 2 months ago and still haven't put it back together. So when are we going to track olie to see what is faster good ole carb power or efi magic. I've got 5 on the efi. Ed/Mike/Jermery/?.... anyone else for a cruise to baytown.
  10. I believe the timing plate goes on the passenger side. Also I think 73Turbo240z is trying to use a l24 timing plate on a l28 engine. I think the mounting holes are different but can not confirm this, can anyone?
  11. Wow didn't know it would be that inexpensive thanks.
  12. Slownrusty: One thing you need to remember though is he is in a s30. I have driven both and I think the zx hooks up better because of the squat that was designed into the suspension. I'm not talking about a full drag setup but for a mild to moderated suspension the s30 will the spin the tires easier than the zx. Jersey, yeah i've noticed the es 100 have less grip than some of the higher treadwear rating tires. I have some bfgoodrich g-force sports on the rear and es 100 on the front both 225/50/15. And I can tell a huge difference in traction between the two. My favorite street tire so far has been the falken azenis. They just don't have them in the 225 size that I wanted.
  13. I am trying to sell my 14x6 enkei wheels and have had a couple of people ask about shipping. I know through ups it will be expensive. They also have 195/60 tires on them. I was thinking a trucking company but want to have to deal with finding a pallet and bringing it to the dock. For the people who have sold wheels and had to ship them how did you do it and how much did it cost? Thanks Ted
  14. I use to have a 1st gen mr2 that you had to do this way. Pain in the arse. Its the only car that I "had" to remove it from bottom. Only other time I have done it that way was last week. I dropped the motor out of the ghetto beast just because I needed to get to the steering rack and was too lazy to go rent a engine hoist, engine is still just sitting on floor underneath the car. One day I will put my creeper under it and move it somewhere else where it can take up more room. I need to build my engine hoist soon. One of these yrs.
  15. I would be pissed if that was my ZO6 and the guy with the fire extinguisher was just standing there as my car burned. I would be like what are you waiting for some marshmallows and herseys? But atleast he the guy did get hit with the extinguisher full on from the second guy.
  16. It looks like a 1.5 or 1.6 sohc mid 80's, early 90's honda motor. The turbo is here:
  17. You are going to need bigger tires. I would not put a n/a cam on a turbo motor to much valve overlap, especially a high boost turbo motor. If you want 350hp don't spend the money, but if you want 400hp without pushing the boost limit too much, then I would invest in a cam and valve job at least.
  18. That would make sense because then he would have run a 22.1 qt mile instead of 12.2 You never now though maybe he forgot to mention his 400 shot of NOS and 12ft wing that aids in aerodynamics:twisted:
  19. Wow and this is N/A so no turbo? My 83 zx weighed 2480 completly stripped, had 300hp and 400lb tq @ 18psi, 1.9 60ft with 225/60 bfgoodrich sports and i'm considered by my friends a fairly good driver. All I was able to run was 12.4-12.7 @ 110mph. Good times. Ted
  20. Thanks for link and info. I can never have to much engine information. It looks like I will be going with the stage 3. I started to watch the auction, also part of the reason for urgency. It looks like it's going to get up there though quickly, plus I will be buying the rocker arms and springs; I might just get the kit from msa. Thanks for your time. Ted
  21. Please any input would be appreciated. I am looking to purchase tomorrow but will wait intill I have more data if need be. Thanks
  22. Well I don't know about the roller rocker setup but you can install the solids from a p90 into the head but it is not worth the hassle. Only problem I see with your setup is that the two cams you listed are listed under the non-turbo applications on schneider website. They look to have too much duration and overlap. Have you thought about grind #17043 or 17044. The specs seem to be alot better for a high boost turbo application. I will be running the #17043 on my turbo swap. Good luck
  23. Thanks for you input. Hate to throw another log on the fire but I was looking at the stage 4 #17036 I was looking at the numbers and it seems milder then when I looked at it a week ago. Next the stage 6 will look decent:twisted: Would this be agood street cam or just stick with the stage 2 or 3. Thanks
