  1. Very nice runs. I think Z-Gad will have some real competition from you guys. Love those videos. Hanns
  2. Wow, your Z runs great. Good E.T.
  3. I have used the same cometics in my TT383 engine. I had some slight coolant leakage into my cylinders which stopped after I had the deck surfaced to a fine finish. I'm currently trying out the Fel-Pro MLS .040 gaskets. I'm impressed with the slightly tacky coating they contain and they seem to seal well. O-Ringing is probably only necessary if you are running 30-35 psi boost. Hanns
  4. Wow!!! That is unbelievable. Great job. Hope the power matches the look. Will it ever see the dragstrip to see what it can do in the quartermile?
  5. Congratulations, It's great to see more and more Z's running 10's.
  6. Scottie, My turbo oil feed comes off the existing oil pressure port for the OP gauge. My oil drains enter near the front upper portion of the oil pan. Seems the LT 1 would use a similar set up. Hanns
  7. Most of the turbo power comes on in the mid range for my Z unless I launch with more than 10 psi of boost. Then if it hooks, the front wheels lift at launch and if it doesn't the rear tires spin. CR is 8.5. I can't help you as much as I would like because I have an old school SBC with carb. No one on this site would hold back info from you because we all want you to succeed with your project. If you look at Siliconeboy and my previous threads there is much info but maybe not as much as you want from my set up. For a street application the stock LT 1 cam should be sufficient on a turbo application. Hanns
  8. I'm running 17 psi boost without wastegates or intercooler. I don't have problems so long as the engine receives enough fuel, under boost, and if I don't get too greedy with the ignition timing. Don't worry about O-ringing if you just buy Cometic or Fel Pro Multi Layer Steel head gaskets. Your 8.7 cr is fine unless you want 35 psi boost. Just be aware that proper A/F ratio and correct ignition timing is crucial to a turbo engine. Hanns
  9. I don't know what type or delivery capability fuel pump you are using but at WOT the AFR should remain constant and not lean out. It appears your engine is not getting enough fuel at higher RPM's.
  10. Van, Congratulations. Now you are famous, or is that "infamous". Hanns
  11. Dear Santa, I behaved myself all year and never street raced. And I only left 400 foot long black tire marks in deserted areas where no one would be jeopardized. Please bring me two new turbos in exchange for the 15 year old Rajays I've been using so that I can beat that pesky Z-Gad's drag race times. Thanks, Hanns
  12. Much will depend on how much fuel and at what pressure your engine needs. I used to run one A1000 pump when it was located way below the fuel tank ( fuel tank was mounted above rear floorboard inside Z). Once I lowered the tank outside of the Z, only half of the pump was below the bottom of the tank. This change alone prevented my engine from obtaining enough fuel for drag racing. Partially through each run the carb would run dry. I added a second A 1000 pump in series and then joined both lines with a Y to the regulator. Getting all the fuel I need now. I believe the A1000 is a good pump but my experience indicates it is very sensitive to location. I have heard that electric pumps don't pull fuel well but are designed to push. This should also be kept in mind when contemplating a location. jonus079, you may not need more than the pump you have but that turbo looks very hungry. Hanns
  13. If I had to do it over again I would go single turbo because you have half the expense and much more room for fitment. A friend gave me the turbos and so I used both of them. Don't cut into the tower sheetmetal unless you plan to add reinforcement. The turbo v8 will have so much power that it will distort the inner fenderwell, like mine. I had the strut tower surrounded with 1/8" steel and my front cage bar is attached to it. And I had alot more reinforcing done to the engine compartment. There is room for the turbo between the front of the engine and the fan shroud.
  14. Thanks for the FI info. But I can't read anymore, my head is spinning from all your projects. Good luck. Hanns
  15. That is an impressive Z you have. I'm amazed how quickly you changed over to PG and Fuel Injection. What FI system are you using.
  16. Scottie, I like the way you almost totally hid the shifter box in the tunnel. Initially that's what I planned but the trans got in the way. You did a great job. Hanns
  17. Bart, Glad to hear your starting problems are over. But you don't know how hard it has been for me to read this thread and not make a snide comment. Since you got er fixed I guess I now can say, "Get a Carb." Hanns
  18. I'm using a B&M ratchet shifter for my TH400 trans. I cut an opening in the trans tunnel and fabricated a platform about 3" below the top of the tunnel. The shifter was then attached to the platform. There is clearance for the trans and the recessed shifter does not look objectionable.
  19. I like it, another turboV8 Z. I'm impressed with the fact you were able to fit regular headers into the engine compartment. I'm curious how much the headers cost or did you fabricate them yourself?
  20. Since I have the engine out for repair:fmad: , I thought I would post this. I use a plate, but I need it. The subframes have 3/16" channel iron welded on top and 1/4" straps on the bottom. Strut towers are reinforced with 1/8" sheetmetal. Two brackets and 2 bolts, per side, hold plate in position. Urethane trans mount gives some flexibility. Thus engine may be mounted in any position deemed necessary. Stock front springs and struts and adjustable rear shocks make ride pleasant. Camshaft is not very radical and thus minimum vibration transmitted to driver due to plate mounting. Hanns
  21. Michael, you are looking at the half-empty glass. "Anguish is just a natural step between Dreams and Success." And in the long run you will revel in the fact that you met the challenge and triumphed. Building and rebuilding, and rebuilding my Z was more fun than any other car project I had. You will never appreciate a turn key car as much as a project car you suffered and anguished over. Hanns
