  1. Thanks for the comments Davy and Wayne. I tried to hug the engine once while it was running and the turbos didn't like it... I got burned!! Wayne, you have done a great job with your TTv8 installation and I'm following every post. Hanns
  2. This is my 6 th year of driving my Z with a TTv8. Current engine is 406 Chevy.
  3. Looks Great!! Can't wait to see those turbos in action.
  4. Very impressive and a clean install. I especially like that it fits under the stock hood!!!
  5. Had the same problem until I let the engine breathe.... The CC pressure is not allowing the oil to drain from the turbo into the oil pan. The oil backs up inside the turbo and slips by the seal to enter the exhaust. "Instant Mosquito Fogger".
  6. Looks like you know what you're doing. Congratulations on another sleeper Z. Since your turbo is mounted low, do you have an electric pump to pump the oil back into the oil pan? Since you have room under the hood, a better carb hat would provide more airflow. I originally examined the hat you have and thought it was too restrictive. But you are making plenty of power!!!
  7. There were 2 GTRs on display in front of the Datsun Heritage Museum in Murrieta, for the Grand Opening on Friday the 12 th. A black GTR was the first GTR sold in the U.S. and both of them were brought to the opening by SAGE Nissan of Universal City, from L.A. The parts manager of Sage, looked at my Z, and I asked him if he could impress me with his GTR? I rode 'shotgun' and another guy from our club sat in the rear. We went on a back road and the driver let er rip. The GTR accelerated quite well but I'm used to going even faster. However, the guy in the rear seat kept shouting "OMG...OMG...OMG". But I was totally impressed with the brakes. When we came quickly up on a slow moving vehicle in front of us, I started pounding my foot into the floorboard because the driver was slow to hit the brakes. But there was a tremendous G-force effect with the smooth application of the brakes, more than any other car I've been in. "These brakes work". There were quite a few people at the ribbon cutting and everyone seemed to have a good time. I didn't take any pics but maybe someone else, who was there did and will post them. Hanns
  8. Luis, I will be there when it opens at 10:00 A.M. on Friday. And stay for a while because the ribbon cutting is at 11. Hanns Thanks everyone for the comments. Hanns
  9. As some of you know, I'm a member of the Z Car Club of Inland Valley(ZCCIV). The founder of this club, Fred Jordan, was the first Datsun dealer in the U.S. In that capacity he met and continues to enjoy a great friendship with Mr. K, who was instrumental in bringing the Z to the U.S. In honor of Mr. K, Fred organized the establishment of the museum and orchestrated it's grand opening to coincide with Mr. K's 99 th. birthday, this coming weekend. For some unknown, surprising reason the museum is using my Z's pic to be on the grand opening posters and museum T-shirts. When you think dragstrip you may picture my Z, but a museum ? Of course, I'm honored to have my Z represented in this manner but I'm surprised, also. There will be several other fine Z's and Datsuns on display with mine at the museum. Included will be much memorabilia Fred has collected and retained over the years. So, if you are in the Murrieta area for the grand opening on Friday or at another time in the future, stop by and check it out.
  10. Thanks for the comments, Luis. In this case it helps to know the local authorities!!! Hanns
  11. Thanks, Bart. When I destroyed my vented hood, I had to replace it with my non-vented spare. It's surprising that the engine is not running hotter with this hood. But then I do have that Taurus electric fan. Hanns
  12. Just got the latest Vintage Auto Magazine from Japan. It is a quality magazine featuring a number of Z's that were in attendance at the April, 08 Motorsport Auto Car Show. Two photographers came to my house and took pics of my Z. There was a total of 6 pages with nice pics but the text was all Japanese. The photogs did not speak too much English but they knew how to get things done. Before I was able to come to my senses, they forced me into some "Action" pics:icon54:. The below pic is my favorite. But I did my penance by dutifully scrubbing out the tire marks with a toothbrush. Hanns
  13. No cork end gaskets No PCV The stuff can be obtained in any local Auto Parts Store and it is black silicone. Clean front and rear engine rails with lacquer thinner. Apply a thick bead of the stuff and allow to sit 5 minutes before carefully placing manifold onto engine. I also glue the intake gaskets to the head with the stuff. However, it will only come off in little pieces when you need to take the intake manifold off. Both breather hoses enter a overflow bottle. But I never see any oil because the valve covers have baffles glued on just below the valve cover openings. You know what I used to attach the baffles that have been there the last 6 years. Hanns
  14. Luis, My twin turbo engine requires large ring end gaps for heat expansion. This creates much blowby. I vent the valve covers to an overflow bottle. In order to remove my intake manifold I have to use a crowbar, it is on so tight. Say goodbye to your blown intake seals if you use "The Right Stuff" by Permatex as I do. I have blown pistons, in the past, and had the seals stay intact. See you at Irwindale.....when it cools down! Hanns
  15. If I had to do it over I would have gone single turbo with my Chevy V8. You only buy one turbo, wastegate, BOV, etc. More room for piping and an intercooler. I don't regret having a square log exhaust manifold because it gives me plenty of clearance from the inner fender wells. And it moves the turbos up front where there is room, not at the sides. Make sure you brace the unibody because the turbo will make insane torque. You must have a great fuel pump and garden hose size fuel lines. If your turbo is large enough, you will never be under boost, even at 70 mph on the freeway, until you mash the pedal. I never downshift when I want to accelerate, the turbos act like a passing gear. The best v8 blow through turbo site is turbo mustangs.com. They have some insane carbed turbo rides. Good luck
  16. I like it !!! I initially saw your setup when you posted on Turbomustang.com. You are making great progress.
  17. Looks like the Z has a lot of potential. When you run next time try to have someone videotape. Your Z is sure to impress with that engine.
  18. It looks like you are well on the way To TT happiness. Don't forget the certified cage and your NHRA competition license.
