Very impressive Mike!! Looks like you guys had a good day of racing. Wish I could have been there, stupid work. Always next time! I see Mark was there (silver ls1 rx-7). Did Heavyz make it in Johns (ls1240z) old car. What kind of times did they pull? JOEY

Need opinion with air duct w/ LS1 Z
LS1 Z replied to VinhZXT's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
HEY VINNIE!!!! Here is a picture of my car https://shell7.tdl.com/~jags/Pages/images/LS1-Z-ducting-0891.jpg. Get ahold of JTR. Using that Corvette intake looks like it might be restrictive. By the way project looks good!!! JOEY -
I agree with 2003z and get the book. LS1 go to http://www.brokenkitty.com/zcar/zcar.htm for some info on a LS1 install kit. And.... Do a search on this site and it will pull up a ton of info. JOEY

Going back to vac leak.. If you put your hands over the carb, does it smooth out? Did you shave your heads to where they doesn't match up with your manafold? Just some ideas on a vac leak. JOEY P.S. Your comment on backfiring. Sounds lean. or Timing chain not off. It's very easy to have the firing order off, with 5 and 7 swapped. Seen it many times. Hoped I helped!

HEY SERG! I've heard the same thing as the others, That if you find a new dash. It will also crack. I believe the reason being is that these dashes were made many years ago. You've seen my car. I'm using a full dash cap from MSA. Very hard to tell. Or..... Maybe someone will chime in on the company that can redo yours. See ya Soon! When is your car going to Mikes? JOEY

To answer some questions???? Smog... I will work on that whan the time comes. Automatic.... I've been told the gear ratio in the auto is 3:90 and manual is 4:10. The LS1 likes the 3:90. Gollum. Wanna talk smog or progress. I've been a smog tec for 18 years and my shop is located in Orinda. I'll let you know when I get started or P.M. me any time and we can go from there. Heavy Z. Hey!!!! Always way cool to meet HYBRIDZ members and put names behind the post's! Stop by anytime or maybe I'll see ya at Sac raceway or I seem to be at Infinion on wednesday nights. NO! don't look for the yellow flat bed, look for the LS1 Z!!! MAS280...... A.K.A. "Drop the clutch at 5 grand this time" or "I haven't broke one of those yet" Time to join TORQUE CENTRAL? JOEY

I've been bitten by the bug! I love my LS1Z. A few friends of mine have done the RX7-LS1 swaps and the cars are awesome. The cool thing is... Its like a modern day version of the Z! IE: p/s, a/c, airbags, antilock and all the creature comforts! The car is a 95 w/ 86k on the dial. Found it on craigs list. The car is VERY clean! I paid 7800.! I bought it from a used car dealer Sooo They added DMV, smog, tax and a 45.00 process fee! I feel, I made out very well considering the value these cars are holding! NO I'm not losing interest in the Z! Need to get some issues solved were the car is not on the back of a flat bed, on the way home from the track!(has happened 2 weeks in a row) Yes I will do a post on the DRIVETRAIN forum soon on my problems! JOEY

Done!!

HEY MIKE!!!! I've also been in MAS280'S RX-7. Very nice and goes like crazy. I almost look at it as an updated version of my LS1-Z. Meaning p/s, a/c and anti-lock brakes and other creature comforts of a newer sports car. If I were and very posible I will do another swap it would be a 93-95 RX-7! The only problem I forsee is, I was talking to Mike Knell and he was running off the production numbers of these cars and from what I remember not a whole lot of them were made. I would like to find one with a blown motor (as you probably). Out here in the bay area they seem to be holding there value. As for road racing, Mike (mas280) has a friend that is using one for road racing. I've seen the car and I'm sure the handling is amazing! I'm sure Mike will chime in on this or P.M. him he can answer all your questions! JOEY

Ls1 Z Kicked Out Of Infinion Raceway!
LS1 Z replied to LS1 Z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Going to tires.... My original drag radials were BGF 2's 225/50r/15. On my HRE rims 15x7.(all matched, gotta look good at the track right?) The tires hooked up well. The problem I had is after I put the heads and cam in, I was hitting the rev limiter at the end of the 1/4.(in 4th). Soooo MAS280 loaned me a set of rims 15x8 with the M/T'S. If I launch the car under 3k, the tires won't even break loose, almost like a moment of silence. Then off like a mother! 3k seems just right! Over that.... Well according to MAS280 "Something is going to break" (half shafts)! JOEY P.S. Soon to be Q45 swap! Then can we say 5-6 launches! Putting John's kit to the test!!! -
What do you mean by "failure condition"? Like freeze frame? (records what happened when the code hit) What I think your looking for is a generic OBD2 scan tool. I got mine from MAC TOOLS. All the tool trucks sell them from what I believe, under 300.00. The one's you buy from the autoparts stores, I'm not sure.

Ls1 Z Kicked Out Of Infinion Raceway!
LS1 Z replied to LS1 Z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I probably will go out to Infinion this Wednesday. See what happens. Worse that can happen is I'll get sent home. MAS280 said the same thing as TURBOMEISTER, Hit the brakes at the end. Sounds like no fun! But then again I will be out there for longer than one run. TURBOMEISTER- Still have that cage??? I did get a some leads on a cage. Chris Alston (Chassis works in Sac) I'm told they make a cage that will work. Or LS1240Z knows of a guy in Pleasant Hill that did his cage. What MAS280 means by exhaust work is going to larger exhaust 3 to 3.5 and manderal bends, And tuning, on a Dyno! Z-GEEK- Where you out at the track? Thanks for all the compliments on all that hard work!! JOEY -
The Z seems to go faster every week! Here's the numbers! R/T... .183 60'... 1.710 1/8... 7.306 MPH... 96.49 1/4... 11.392 MPH... 119.49 My class is street and the quickest you can go is 11.50. My practice runs were in order.... 11.54, 11.50, 11.46! I was warned before I reached the bleach box. If i went quicker than 11.50 I'm out of there. I really didn't care. My whole goal besides smoking everybody, was to get kicked out! Looks like I'm gonna have to cage the car, go to 5 point restraints, drive shaft loop and a racing jacket. Ouch!, more cash into the money pit! Then it kind of donged on my...... Whats gonna happen next week, Will they remember the car? Something tells me they will. Not to brag but.... My car gets alot of attention and sticks out like a sore thumb. As for the Z and racing...... The car launches like a mother, hooks up great, handles well! Running 235/60/15 M/T E/T STREET RADIALS. Now has AFR heads and a Texas Speed and performance cam. Computer programming is LS1 Edit with a huge thanks to MAS280. I can't forget LS1240Z for using his dynotuned program! Yes I'm still using the R200 w/ NISMO posi. I know I'm on borrowed time! Soon to be the Q45 swap. JOEY

LS1 Z replied to qwik240z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I've taken C5, z06's at the track. You NOW can take a C6 at 1/3 of the cost!!! As for attention! Weather I'm at the track or at a carshow there is always a crowd around my car. I thought of doing a post of first comments people make. The one that comes to mind the most is HOLY SH*T. Soo David, get used to it!!! JOEY P.S. I see your "enjoying the ride" -
Stupid question???? Whats P-TOWN. Iam cruizing the Z this weekend and I have no plans. I think you have my cel? Call me or I believe I have yours. JOEY

Home At Last! Project Silver Bullet LS1 240Z Update
LS1 Z replied to qwik240z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I'll never forget my first drive and the last and looking forward to the next!!! Kick in the pants to say the least. Question??? Are you sure you were doing around 40 in 6th and not bogging? At around 70 in 6th I'm tacking under 2k w/ 354 gears. Sooooo 6th at 40 i'm bogging. Maybe you were going quicker than you think. The car does fly! or.... Whats your gear ratio? Speedometer..... I had the same problem, My tac wouldn't go above 2,000 r.p.m.'s. I adjusted the screw as per JTR book and it's close now. DAVID... "ENJOY THE RIDE" JOEY -
Right on!! Gotta see it. What is your def of high idle? JOEY

Project Silver Bullet: LS1 240Z Update: FIRST DRIVE!
LS1 Z replied to qwik240z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
RIGHT ON DAVID!!! I will never forget my first ride! What a rush! And mine was auto then. Isn't it a kick in the pants! Now gotta get her to the track. Then that adiction to speed comes in. Or find someone in your area that does dynotuning for the LS1'S! JOEY -
You Know I've been wondering the same question. How much abuse the half shafts can take? I've been down the 1/4 mile about 15-18 times, running drag radials down to 15 p.s.i.,launching the car around 3500 r.p.m.'s and the car is a 6 speed. My best time soooo far is 11.87 @ 120.76. And my best 60 foot time is 1.74. Still getting the hang of the car and I will be going quicker! Will do a post on being a 11 second man! I'm waiting for a half shaft to break and the long expensive tow home. I'am switching over to R230-Q45 rear end soon. JOEY
