You might want to double check with your dealer Manny. I was told that the release and production of this car will be in very limited numbers. If my memory serves me, it's 2000 or less to be brought to the USA per year, but don't qoute me... That will KILL the chances of these cars dropping... When I was negotiating with my local dealer I had them down to the lower $90s. I talked to a guy the other day who has one on hold at the same dealership for $97K OTD. This car is the next Mark4 Supra, and you can pile it in with all the other "penis" cars, because when you get hat exclusive, the stereotypes will be assigned... Mike

No competition Myron... It's a wonderful time to be a car guy. We have lots of options to choose from. Brian, due to the limited numbers, I bet you won't be able to see MSRP on this car for 3-5 years. And because of that the used prices will stay inflated. same thing happened with the first two years of the Z06. Mike

This is what a number of us have been saying... Nissan claimed to be making much less hp than their performance numbers support. I suspect there will be a large number of changes to a few of the competitors out there. You won't be buying one of these GT-Rs for less than $90k, so don't get to excited just yet. The markup is killing guys who are trying to get in at $69,999. Isn't gonna happen, and what will likely happen is the cost will increase as the baller crowd move in to grab up this car. Over on a couple of other boards there is much discussion about paying upwards of 25% above markup to get this car. The real question is do you like the looks. I'm personally not a fan of how it looks, and with 650crank HP in my "budget" 996TT, I can't see giving up those great lines and good looks, along with the Porsche reputation, for the GT-R. However there are others who feel the same about my 3500# 996TT. Knowing what I now know about the 996 Turbo, and how they've depreciated in the market, I could duplicate mine for $55K on a moderate mileage 996TT platform. Mike

Circuit City messes up civic stereo installation - $12k in damage!
Mikelly replied to firm's topic in Non Tech Board
Avoiding all Circuit Citys because of a reported incident on the internet is pretty lame. Again, there's no proof that you'll get the same service at all of them. It's called people, and when you throw them into the mix you get all kinds of results. Bottom line is there are more than a couple of sides to the story in that thread... And I can tell you that owning a small 15 person company, where all my personnel are scattered thruout the Washington DC metro area, it's hard to know what each of them is doing day to day. I have that problem with 15 people. How many people does Circuit City employ? Expecting a nationwide chain HQ to know every incident where a customer is unhappy is one of the most unrealistic and unintelligent things I've read this weekend. Again, it's that store's issue...In the end he did get refunded for the money he spent on equipment. Will he get refunded for the repairs to the damage they did? So did you guys look at the repair estimate from honda??? Who'se trying to screw him now? $12000 in repairs for some ac ducting, wiring harness and dash repairs??? Mike -

He got so upset dealing with it, he turned it over to his insurance company to fight and they ended up getting repairs, rental car, and an upgrade, but not without a lot of grief and headache. Mike -

GIJONAS, you can't make that blanket statement... Nope. Not gonna allow it... Do you KNOW the people at the top of that corporate ladder? Do you even know if the complaint gets raised to that level? No, this kind of comment is what's wrong with consumer rights cases right now... Don't assume anything in dealing with corporations. Mike -

Evan, Nothing wrong with what you posted... My point is that bad installers are like bad mechanics and scam artists. ID them, and get the word out that THIS installer is bad news. There's nothing legal that can be done to an installer, and stores have but one option... Fire them. That doesn't mean he won't end up at yet another place. It behooves the consumer to know who is working on their car and what the qualifications are... Or deal with the store trying to make it right, long after the car-B-Que has been put out... In my example above, friend of mine had been burned at Circuit City on a bad install. They fired the tech and made it right with him. He decided "I'm never doing back there..." Took his wife's car to best buy and the same guy was there, and ended up catching my buddie's wife's car on FIRE in the shop bay. Mike -
Circuit City messes up civic stereo installation - $12k in damage!

My point in the post was as Jon pointed out... This bad tech I'm speaking of almost ruined Circuit City's rep before he got fired from there... Went over to Best Buy and is pulling the same stuff... The store in question in that thread is ABSOLUTELY responsible and should make it right, as indeed they are where the buck should stop. My point was that just because THAT circuit city has a bad isntaller and THAT circuit city isn't doing the right thing, doesn't mean that ALL circuit citys nation wide have poor installation staff. Circuit City messes up civic stereo installation - $12k in damage!
Mikelly replied to firm's topic in Non Tech Board
This isn't uncommon and isnt' a "CircuitCity" thing. Any store whose ever installed electronics/audio/video in a car has had or will have issues. The answer is holding the "tech" who did the work responsible. Circuit City in my area has a good rep and the Best Buy has the bad rep. Reason being that Circuit City fired the guy who now works for Best Buy... See a theme here??? Mike -
With regards to witholding information, There is simply no way we can enforce that one. If someone has a tidbit of info they choose to share, then great... But expecting people to come forth and share info unwillingly is unreaslistic. The main goal to remember here gang is that years from now someone will pull this data up and reference it in their potential build. We are trying to insure that long after some of us have left the Zcar scene, that the data is still accurate and useful. So if you don't "KNOW" for a fact that the info you're posting is 110% accurate, either state it, or don't post. Simple enough? 280Z Turbo, you hit the nail on the head. Everyone is working from different experience levels. Some folks have deep pockets and vast depths of experience. Others have none of either. It really is a give and take environment, which is why we're fairly hard on n00bs and searching. Mike

Someone earlier posted how great the Zcar community is and how there are only one or two of these tools out there... You guys would be surprised at how many of these tools there are, and how many disputes get reported to us in the admin ranks. I'm all for exposing these individuals, as long as the facts support the claims. We've been down this path in the past and found that sometimes (Not saying this case is one) it's miscommunication. Bottom line is to be 110% sure you know what you're buying and who you're buying it from. Mike

Yup, Im not a big fan. I think they missed the mark with the "one" series... It's going for $38K with the TT motor in it, and weighs in STILL at above 3400#. That's nuts. The whole twist on the car was that is was supposed to get back to the E30 or 2002 style, but you can't get there with a car that's coming in north of 3400#. I'd buy a used M3 first... My buddy did just that... Sold his modified 2006 STi and bought a 2005 M3 in Cobalt blue. The other issues with the new 335TT and one series TT motor are starting to creep up. Go over to http://www.bobistheoilguy.com and check out the thread on the 335TT oil issues... BMW might well have another major recall on their hands on this motor... Seems the oil is breaking down much to fast... Mike

Oh trust me, the scenario you described above is the reason some cyclists get hit. They clearly don't understand the laws either... In Va. if you ride a bicycle on the road ALL Laws Apply to you, with some vairations. Bottomline is bicyclists aren't supposed to run stop signs or stoplights, and are supposed to flow WITH traffic. They're also supposed to follow the SAME TRAFFIC PATTERNS... Something that drives me nuts is watching some tool on a bicycle dodge into a deceleration lane, only to pop back out into the same traffic lane... if you're not planning to turn, STAY OUT OF THE TURN LANE!!!! You're only going to confuse those trying to figure out where you're going. Mike

I'd like to see some pics of that car... I know Mark has been working a long time on that one. Mike

I've been hit twice by cars over the years... Educate yourselves to the laws in your state with regards to sharing the road. And for god's sake, if you're in my neck of the woods, give a wide berth. These days I pack heat when riding, and I'm not shy. Mike

Kinda freaky... I was in a bike shop 20 minutes ago buying some camelback bladders for our water packs and the shop ratt was mentioning this. Now I'm at my office waiting for Pete and his friend to come down and have dinner, and I see this thread... And I'd have missed it, had I not been tipped off!! Mike

Need Cobra Brake Brackets
Mikelly replied to BirdmanZ's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Brandon, You can come down and take measurements/traces of mine to duplicate... Contact me offline and we'll discuss. Mike -
I really need to order a second one of these for my little experiment... I want to close off the center openings above and below the bumper, cut in my own smaller opening below the bumper, and then make an adjustable "splitter" that will slide out from under the existing bottom shelf. Mike

I'm not a lawyer and don't play one on TV. I'd bet a considerable amount of money that you will not win a lawsuit, based on the circumstances as you described them in your post. Can you sue? Sure. Can you win? Likely not. How much would it cost to pursue? LOTS. Mike

1 Fast Z, Do not, REPEAT DO NOT do that again... Remember who's throwing the party here, or leave for good... GOT IT? Mike

Aluminum vs composite vs tubular racing seats??
Mikelly replied to heavy85's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Cameron, If you go to my project thread and look at my seat setup, with the wheel in place, my guess is that you can get in and out with it in place, but it's pretty tight. That is the same seat as the one in the jegs ad. I'm thinking of removing my seat, removing the seat mounting/welded braces and lowering the seat in the chassis. I'd like it to be much closer to the floorboard. Mike -
Yup, and for all the drama his show may or may not have had, I for one enjoyed watching his guys fabricate and make stuff. I don't care about the end product. What they did with that show was motivate a ton of hotrod guys like you and me to get our butts out in the garage and make stuff... Now get out in the garage... God Bless Boyd Coddington! Mike
