HAHAHA 800? Try 2k. Most hand built custom guitars that are low production number will never see numbers south of 2k simply because it takes too much time to charge any less. But I AM in the east bay and would love to check it out sometime, not that I could afford to pay you to build one, but I love guitars. I actually have one in my lap right now. I'm more of an electric player, but I dig acoustics as well, just can't play them like I want to. But really, i'm head first in love with guitar playing. For example, i'm sitting here playing a F#sus2/E (or least that's what I think it is) to a F#9. I'm practically putting myself to sleep. I love it. I want to build a guitar in the near future, but money is the main hinderance. But I've love to bounce ideas back and forth.

Ever seen amiercan rice? It's called a 6 cylinder mustang with a full saleen conversion, with the origonal dealer plates still on the car. In other words, I agree with you kenny. Rice is more of the attitude the prevails in most kids nowdays. It's not what you drive though. Certainly not what the chassis code that makes it rice.

Funny how all the people that can truly respect cars can rarely afford them. There are very few people that own those 6 digit cars that actually know anything about them. Sad sad sad. I'm kinda glad I've never owned a powerful car. All the powerful cars I've driven weren't mine, so I tend to over respect them and treat them much better than my own. So the only cars I really have ever opend up 110% are underpowered pieces of crap. Gotta be the best way to learn in my opinion. Then you get these people that have never driven stick that buy cars that even car journalists have a hard time driving...

No close ups of the motor? If you got any motor shots please post them. That's as much eye candy for me as the car itself. The car does look awsome though, and it looks much more aerodynamic than the old one. Did anyone see the lambo tribute episode of top gear? The aired it last thursday, i thought it was a good episode.

well, i'm not gonna hate you for getting a honda, but as much as I respect what a well setup honda hatch can do they're still not fun to drive for me. I've had more fun in a stock 80's V12 jag than a fully built 400hp honda. There's just something about steering a car through a turn with your foot instead of your hands. Honestly though, I've been tossing around the idea of either getting an old toyota pickup or a honda mid 90's hatch for a daily driver. The main downside to the import industry is the insane prices. Around here you still can't get a type R motor in good shape for less than 4k. Cams can cost as much as crate motor do in the muscle industry. This is the main thing that I've always got on my friends with the super fast imports. Mine will never cost as much no matter how hard I try. Personally, I don't have tons of money to through around my projects so maybe that's why I own a Z to begin with... I probly sound like a broken record by now, but to anyone that thinks that a FF cant' be fast, go buy the "American Touge" hotversion of BMI (Best Motoring).

A freind of mine has a WRX RS and he's getting the new STI motor put in soon (started last week). I've seen his engine bay, it might be a little bit wider than a Z, but not THAT much wider. It's still a small car to begin with. I think it would fit, but what's the point if you don't have the AWD? But if you where only looking for 300 reliable HP I guess it would be a good choice. They're not cheep motors though. (the new ones anyways)

I'll just talk about what I know about, the east bay. The traffic isn't THAT bad. I'm much rather sit in traffic than fly in it at 60MPH bumper to bumper like LA. And cross commute works like a dream. Housing here has finally become a buyer's market again and prices are starting to waver a little, but I don't think they'll be dropping much. The waether would be great, if you can afford even mild heat & AC. Electricity is insanely expensive. If it weren't for that all seasons are very livable. Ice on windshields is rare and paper thin when found. If summer hits triple digits everyone is crying bloody murder, usually in the 80-90's. Schools suck. They get money, I'll guarentee that, but it never sees the students. Berkeley is the health capitol in the world, and only there can one of the most popular resturants be an "all-organic pizza parlor". For me, if the lanuage bearier and a job weren't an issue I'd move to japan or germany. But then again I don't mind cold weather. Good luck house hunting! I think your best options will only open up if you can work the family attachment thing.

You mean a 350Z 2+2. At least that's the way I've always seen them. It might wear skyline but it's got much more Z in it than GTR. The G35 is expensive though. In fact, most new cars are expensive. The miata is good for the price, and has good cargo capasity for it's size and smartly engineered interior. I was unimpressed with it though watching the BMI review. I was expecting too much from all the new fancy computer gizmos. Alot of the steering charictaristics are gone or different and it's ended up driving alot like a RX8 that's harder to control due to it's weight. Now, what you REALLY want to do is have her buy an old MGB and restore it with a modern SR motor or something of the likes. More people need to buy those classics before they're all crushed.

So remind me again on your plans for smog... All I have to say is good luck and I hope you've got smog friends (like some people on this board ) So why's the PCV system sitting open? Might want to get that covered if you plan on driving it, at least some type of filter. I'm personally not a fan of open PCV systems but that's a different story altogether. So how much are you planning to actually take from the donor other than the motor? I think you've mentioned some of this stuff before but I'd like to double check now that the donor car is in your hands. If the smog issue permits I'd scrap the stock efi and megasquirt it, get a larger TB & headers, and THEN supercharge it. It won't be overkill as long as you're not a lead foot driver.

wow, umm you want MORE light? You're already getting like 800% more light than my 280ZX lights... I personally hate seeing HID lights on the street expecially on some of the high end suv's becuase they're just plain blinding. I think companies need to start producing 3 stage lights becuase in most cases even the modern halogen lights are more than enough. Nice car though. Just the right amount of black for the two colors to work well agaist eachother.

oh my.... wow.... Ok, i'm sold. NA L series motors CAN be righteous. I think i've just changed my mind about owning and racing an NA 240 someday. I'd love to take a ride in that car sometime.

Ok, this just needs to be done. And there needs to be rules. 1. If you post there had better be a link to something wangan. 2. This is not a place for questions. Questions can be dealt with via chat/instant message/or good ol' PMing on hybrid z. Obviously I'm not a mod, or respected much (or so I assume). So it would be nice if a mod would come into this thred and back me up on this and maybe change/add to the rules a bit. Link(s): http://files.filefront.com/mangan_widnightavi/;4579595;;/fileinfo.html (32 downloads already, you people are monsters ) If anyone has quesitons I'm online all the time and will get back promptly any way I can. These are my contact adresses. Aim: Gollumthesage MSN: Gollumthesage@hotmail.com Email: Gollumandsmeagol@comcast.net Suggestions: Many of these movies are .avi and require the divx codecs. If you don't already have the latest divx drivers get them, as it's one of the best formats on the web and is quickly spreading. If you STILL have issues playing the file(s) try to download VLC player. Sometimes installing codecs won't affect your player's ability to find them, wich is why so many people here have been having problems. I'll be editing this post in the future for modifications as opossed to making new posts all the time. My goal is to keep the thred as short as possible.
-
Bump! HAHA! I bet you though this thred would die. Well I'm here to save it for short while. I spoonderismed the title so it won't come up on search engines. Eat your heart out. http://files.filefront.com/mangan_widnightavi/;4579595;;/fileinfo.html That's all the 650MB of unsubtitled 80's B movie car guy glory. Oh yea.

"while i'm at it" wow I almost died trying to keep back my laughter. So true. I feel your pain owen, those are the kind of people that flood the streets of my area. Bolt on don't mean a thing unless you're the one that MADE it "bolt on" to begin with Some slogan ideas: "Anything will fit, given enough time and creative thought." "Fast is relative. Ever raced a jet?" "Where lost sleep comes alive." "A journey into another dimension of fabrication." "It's got a chevy, so that makes it a hot rod." (I hade to, sorry ) "The right tools and the right brain can make anything fast." "Making a classic a classic again." "If it were easy it wouldn't be fun." That's all I got right now. Sorry they weren't funny. Must be past my bed time.

So what brand is the kit? It sure doesn't look like a factory5. Super performance maybe? And oh yea, the paint looks good too m/ I plan to suck my fair share of resources from here when I paint my car, but it also helps that my friend has a year's exprience at one of the best paint schools in the SF area. He comes in handy too

You must know about my love of the sts sytems Now you know how I feel about the 1uz. The more I learn the more I just want to buy one and start fiddling with it. The 1uz rods are amazing for a production piece on a mere 200hp v8. The main weak link in the 1uz is the pistons, other than that the 1uz is the strongest 1us block/motor made. Lextreme did some good articles comparing the 3uz and 1uz parts that have the kind of information that's hard to come by. If the rods are really interchangable with the 3rz then you should read this stuff. http://www.lextreme.com/rods.html http://www.lextreme.com/mainbolts.html http://www.lextreme.com/3uzblock.html http://www.lextreme.com/3uzpiston.html If you read these articles you'll notice the 1uz is a much more bullettproof motor off the showroom exept for the pistons. I'd trust those connecting rods to pretty high HP numbers and replacements are cheep. And if you bought a $500 ebay 1uz that gives you spares . Lets see main brand manufactures make good rods for $65 a rod. 400hp seams like a reasonable mark to reach as long as the fuel system is well tuned and up to the task. I can't imagine the head being a HUGE limiter with force induction. As long as it's got a half decent chamber desgin you should be fine. But of course there are people here with WAY MORE knowledge about head design here than me. Now if only they'd chime in...... I'm having kinda the same problem with the 1uz though. Not much aftermarket support and what there is in support is expensive, probly due to the lack of competition. I don't know the smog laws in iowa but and upside to the 3rz is that you could smog it in CA if you decided to make it legal. (i don't know what year your car is)

I'm interested in it enough to bite I believe the remarks of the toyota crank. Some toyota motors are way over built for what they ever did with it. The square bore issue is more of a charictaristic issue and anything else. A square bore means a fair balance between rev & liter. A large bore on a shorter stoke equals much higher reving ability under the same part specs. A stroke bias can produce gobs of low end power but aren't rev happy or able to rev high for any small cost. The main difference is piston speed. A 2" stroke can complete two cycles in the time it takes a 4" stroke to do one if both are traveling at the same speed. There are many other variable to consider when determine what you want to go with, but I think you have a fair grasp of what I'm saying. The fact that it's a corssflow head (intake and exhast on opposite sides) means it's already a whole lot better than the same head if it weren't corss flow. It doesn't mean it's great, it just means it's better to start with as that's something you won't be able to change. I'll be honest and say I don't know a ton about these heads in question but I doubt they're bad. I don't know much about dry sump systems other than I like the idea of them So if anyone wants to chime in I'll be in for the listening as well.

Good luck getting everything that car is to FIT into an austin martin. The car weights 4k pounds for crying out loud! And it's not the luxury items that make it heavy. It's as close as anyone has come to a "reliable producion F1 car". The AWD alone boggles my mind and deserves it's own nobel prize. -
man i love top gear. The marcos looked like a blast for sure. But if it's just a "charictar" car than I'd rather build it... Now... the veyron... wow. Now THERE is a car that you can't build on your own. That's a car that gives money more value. It gives people with money a reason to have it and people without money a reason to want it. It's everything a car should be. So when are we gonna start making enviorment friendly cows?

Hmm, I'm not sure I like the idea. 1. A car with a flat is still mobile. 2. You could cut it off and use a cap to plug it. Granted it's a neat idea, but I wouldn't use it as a sole anti-theft device. I really like my auto-lok becuase they're really hard to cut through. (any hand tool is a joke, you'd need a serious power tool to do the job) I still use a kill switch and I want to install an ignition kill switch (current switch is a fuel switch). My hope is that only a real car theaf that's determined to get my car will be able to get away with it. I think one of the best anti-theft devices still is an engine immobiliser. Low jack is nice, but if they steal it in the middle of the night they're gonna get away with it becuase they'll have the car strip searched by the time you wake up to call low jack. Just my 3 cents on the subject. But the tire deflator still seems like a good product.

did I ever imply she wasn't a prostitute? look again. I simply suggested that it might be 'her' son and not 'his' son. And I never said it was healthy for a kid to be seeing that, unless you jump to conclusions. In wich case I'm sorry I wasn't to the point enough. -
Hey mikelly, there is definatelly an "evolution of the car guy" like you state. I once thought the shelby cobra was the hottest and fastest car ever made. Boy did reality hurt. I'm as broke as any kid out there; but I bought a slow POS 280ZX that does 0-60 sometimes.... BUT!!!!! It's a thousand times more fun than any of the fast FWD cars I've owned/driven/built. It all comes down to the fact that this whole car modding thing has becomase POP culture. But I guess it was the same thing in the 50's so I should just shut up. My main beef is that the POP culture side of things are focused on the look of the car more than anything else, whereas the 50's era was mostly about the sound and feel of speed, even if few took advantage of it. But I guess we all have to have our AE86 of sorts. The car that started it all. The love. The car that taught us how to drive and how to understand personal/vehicular limits. For me that's been the 280ZX. I used to get mad with traffic and such with all my previous cars. But when I finally decided to get a beater that could actaully be something someday and bought a ZX... man, I've never hated driving since. I love to just drive! Maybe these hondas will lead kids to the same emotions someday. If so, good for them.

^ - In responce to the off topic rabbit trail some are trailing. I think most people would be surprised at how young kids can understand things. Many parents think kids can't deal with death, but any boy that's killed a bug on purpose understands death. The issue with dealling with death is a different matter. Kids shouldn't be left to make thier own assumptions about dealing with death, all the more reason not to hide it from them. Sex is very much the same way. Kids can understand the "concept" of sex at a very young age without harmful psyche side effect. The actaul details are a different matter though. Kids imitate what they see, what they see eventually makes it into thier imagination and they make up thier own meanings about life. So let them make up thier own concepts of sex and leave the details to a later age. But shielding them from it completelly only creates curiousity that can't be quenched. On the topic of the picture... A senario I don't think anyone has mentioned is that maybe the kid is her son. That could be sick too. And under certain societies the idea of a kid being there might not seem that weird. In japan nudity runs ramant across tv. Sure you can say it's rarelly in "sexual" senarios but if you really look at them unbiased you'll see much of thier media is focused on sexual/death related subject. You can either call them more "enlightened and advanced socially" or you can call them "perverted", you can take your pic. I find the picture quite funny for my own reasons, but just becuase I find it funny doesn't make it right. It's still a sick thing to do to a child. -
Man, people never seem to find enough cars to put LS motors in. They're like the whore of the industry... A really HOT whore... I still don't know what to think. Is he short on cash and can't afford a real car to put that motor in? Or does he really like volvos? Or does he have tons of money and puts nice motors in everything he owns? I'm so confused. Any wich way it's cool.
