  1. I've searched on multiple forums and can't find any instructions on how to do this. Can somebody help me out?
  2. I know its hard to tell what you're looking at, but this is a distributor out of an 83 turbo car. I'm trying to find the reason why my swap (81 zxt engine to 72 240z) isn't sparking. It was suggested to me that I replace the CAS and seeing as how I had an 83 distributor I thought I'd use it. Well, I pop the cap off to see what I'm working with and this is the carnage I saw. This is the dial, it has been sheared into two pieces, the center section and the outer section. The shaft has twisted into the copper collar and the center screw is snapped. I'm guessing this is the root of the problem, the cap must not have been tightened and the rotor must have clipped the side. notice the bent electrode thing. My question is, can I get these parts at courtesy? I don't have a cataloge, I also don't even know what these parts would be called. Is this even worth repairing? Is there a way of bench testing the external CAS I have to determine if it works or not? Thanks
  3. here is a pretty cool source for custom intake parts. http://www.rossmachineracing.com/intakeparts.html
  4. I've already got the 83 dizzy, pump and shaft... the whole engine actually. searching I found this post http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=99313&highlight=81+83+distributor Which in short makes it looks complicated and risky. (talks about frying ecu's!) but if you could fill me in with the details, I've got all the parts. thanks
  5. Holy hell! Anyone know where I can get one for less than $400!? http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?parttype=762&ptset=A&searchfor=Crank+Position+Sensor
  6. I started the engine right before I pulled it from the donor, so everything should be good.
  7. I've read and followed most of bumble zee's guide. (I'm just temporarely running my fuel pump through a switch instead of the switched relay) The starter turns over, I'm getting fuel through the rail, the test light is lighting for the switched 12v to the ignitor; Whats left to check? Are there any specific wires to the ECU I should be checking for power? Talk about angst! Btw, it's an 81zxt engine going into a 72. Thanks, joe
  8. Can somebody help me with where the CAS plugs to? (thats the cut wire I'm holding) I had some help with removing the engine from the donor car and he didn't remember where this one came from. I checked on and around the distributor since this is where it was on my 83 turbo engine, but seeing how this engine is out of an 81 I know the distributor doesnt have an internal CAS. Thanks joe
  9. I'm going to buy a new zxt engine on friday. The previous owner lost the key to the car, but claims that it will still run. ( I made sure he has a title so I can be sure I'm not just stealing this thing ) How can I get the engine started without the key? I have a '72 240z, will my ignition switch work? Can I just hot wire the damn thing? Should I just turn it over by hand and pressure test the cylinders? Thanks -joe

  12. take a look at some of the wheels at http://centerline.com select z-car from the drop down vehicle selector.
  13. Im in the middle of spraying my car. I thinned with 100% mineral spirits. It's going on very well and coating better than I was expecting. I only spent probably 30 hours perp time on it, so I'm not expecting a 200 hour show quality paint job. The only problems I've run into so far is that when I wet sand, even the tiniest spec of dust will sometimes scratch, so you have to keep the paper and the surface very wet and clean. Ill post pictures when Im done.
  14. it would be cheaper to do something like this. http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=6&i=54674&t=54674
  15. that is definitely impressive, and i would definitely make those runners equal length, the .03 hp increase would put my car into the 10's! are those tb's powdercoated?
  16. 300+ hp has been made on engines straight out of the junk yard, but if you've got the money to spend thats awesome.
  17. I would say the junk yard is the cheapest place to get one. you can fit them easily into your pocket. : )
  18. can you get MS to turn on and accept code without having the sensors pluged in, well acutally, only the batt. and ground wires plugged in?
